I need information on the copyright laws that are out today. If you or know of somebody or know of a specific site dedicated to informing people like myself on the laws of copyrights, post them here.
I have engaged myself in a debate with some people that are pirating games and movies. If I have enough information to debate a good argument with them I feel that I could persuade them from their evil ways.
Edit: Sorry guys, I didn’t mean to put this in the Main forum, it should be in the Off Topic forum.

by law
a person is allowed to make ONE backup of thier CD based property
if you sell or give your ORIGINAL copy away, you must destroy the backup
making backups is pointless, tell them to take care of thier stuff
noone makes backups unless its for piracy

If you wish to be a welcome addition to these forums I suggest that you think before you post something like that. My freinds and those that I am debating this topic with are what we adults call, "mature". I see that in your post above you seem to lack that little thing called "maturity" that we adults obtain over the years. :(
Now, where did I put that "ignore" button...

Do you download MP3s mm???
If you do, then you have broken copyright.

Nope, if they\'re erased 24 hours after downloading.

racer, read again what i posted
the music industry deserves to be ripped off, but if i like a artist, i support them and buy thier CD
we had this discussion months ago in off topic

mm, I dont want to pick a fight, but isnt that double standards? I mean, your a hardcore gamer, so of course you want to support the games industry.
Its your business what you do, but next time be more specific. You say piracy = lame (a common quote of yours) yet piracy doesnt just cover the games industry.
There double standards mate.
-
not double standards
music industry = teh suck
whens the last time you bought a CD and every song was good?
you might get a single or two out of it, but thats it
and the artist gets what, 3% of the take?
if this was a music forum do you think i would be tolerant of music piracy? you wont find more than a a few dozen MP3\'s on my PC, and guess were they came from, original CD\'s. the only songs i ever downloaded were live recordings or bootlegs
i havnt liked a new band since radiohead came out
kids today dont know what music is, all these bands sound the same and they suck
i have a cd collection of almost 400, yet i havnt bought a disk since radiohead-amnesiac came out last june
gaming piracy = lame
my new common quote of mine to make someone happy

Well RaCeR I can tell you honestly that I have never downloaded an MP3 nor have I ever nabbed a copy of any game, movie, or music track from the net. I am a solid believer that no matter the piracy, it will cost ME more money in the long run. I stand against the issue because I feel that despite what industry you are pirating against, it is still stealing. In any case, somebody loses…and that somebody is generally us, the consumer.
