World Fantasista is the name of the football game of Square. Here you are the last shots scanned by a magazine, so the images are not great.

THAT\'s bloody "football", they\'re using their feet!!!! It just can\'t fit in my tiny li\'l head how americans call that mess of a sport "football"! It should be "Hand&FootThrowing&KickingBallGame Xtreme" or something...

Anyways, I hate any form of "football", so I\'ll just shut up and crawl into that little hole I emerged from :p

And I\'m... you guessed it, BORED! :D

And if my memory has\'nt failed me, we [Sweden] are the world champs ;)

Bozco: Football [soccer to you] actually takes some skillz.. In NFL you run for 10 secs, rest for 5 mins, run for 10 secs, rest for 5 mins.
Call that a sport? ;)

Yes, soccer does take athleticism but its still a lame sport in my book.  Now you need to admit that football (american football) takes skills.  Not everyone can throw a football that far or hit that hard.

Not everyone can bend a ball around a four man wall from 40 yards and score, football is a quality sport, American Football is just rugby with pads.

Rugby is only an unskilled version of football.  The Rugby players don\'t have the athletisism, or the skill of the Football players.  I would really love to see an average Rugby player run a 4sec 40, with a 48" verticle, in addition be able to perform the skills that average football players have (ie catching, passing, breaking tackles)
And for those of you who say that Rugby players do have these qualities, then my question is why don\'t we see them in the NFL making 5-10 million dollars a year?

And as for soccer, here in America that\'s the game people play when they can\'t cut it at the big 3 :)

Absolutely true, my man...Football to me is the ultimate team sport.  Soccer fans can say all they want to about running five seconds and resting or whatever...the truth of the matter is that football takes a lot of skill and toughness.   Also, a play simply won\'t work unless all eleven men do the right thing within the exact right frame of time.  A back or receiver is absolutely nothing without his linemen, and vice versa.  Football is an organized war without bullets, and rugby totally sucks ass in comparison.  Soccer is boring as hell.  Since we Americans pretty much dominate the world, we can name our best sport anything we want to, and we will also rename your sports as well.  Football is football, soccer is soccer, and that\'s all there is to it.  In your countries, call your sports that we don\'t care about whatever you will...we\'ll do the same.  Now I\'m off to play some Madden.

Which would explain why the americans suck a$$ at football. American football bores me to death, its crap. Football (soccer to you yanks :p ) Is a game of skill, vision etc, and there are very few players that reach the level we are used to seeing, its very competitive. I know about 1000 - 2000 people who play football, and not one of them will play for a team that anyone has ever heard of. Thats how competitive it is, and shows how good you need to be to be able to play.

Anyway, PES2, online  That would be frickin brilliant!!!! I\'d never go out anymore!

no offence, but you americans are so ignorant when it comes to sport, you only like sports you invented yourself or sports your good at, just because you aren\'t the best in football (soccer) you say it\'s lame, that\'s just stupid. Football happens to be the most played sport in the world, so basically what your stating is that practically the whole world is dumb when it comes to sport.

i dont see how anyone can say that NFL takes more skill than rugby.. (even tho i prefer NFL to Rugby)

Quote

ie catching, passing, breaking tackles

  yah, in NFL you have one specialized guy who can actually throw,  a few people who can actually catch, and the rest just bashing eachother.. in Rugby everyone has to be able to catch, pass and bash eachother.. everyone has to defend, everyone gets to attack etc. etc.  everyone is on the park much longer, the fitness level theorhetically would have to be higher (although most NFL players should be incredibly fit also)

plus the kicking game is far more in depth and requires more skill.. it also requires a lot of thinking on your feet, you dont have 5 minutes to decide which play could fool them, you have split second reaction time to try and fool them, what do you do?  kick, pass run, dummy, masturbate, bend over and fart in their faces, or whatnot..

as much as i like American Football.. i dont think it has the skill of Rugby.. plus Rugby is far more varied

soccer is the true football.. but ill still call it soccer  :)

Great post Bob, eventhough I\'m not a rugby fan either I do appreciate rugby a whole lot more than NFL.

NFL doesn\'t flow like rugby or soccer. It\'s stopped every god damn 15secs and there\'s a pause for a min so that the TV sponsors can sell themselves.
What\'s up with that, is that fun to watch? Hell no.

I think it\'s great people like different sports, to each their own but I don\'t like it when people (especially americans) dismiss a sport as unfun, unskillful or as a sissy sport purely coz it wasn\'t invented by them or the fact that they aren\'t any good at it.

I\'m not taking away from Rugby players, yes they are skilled, BUT they are not as skilled as Football players.  The NFL has people who scout players 24/7, and the only ex-Rugby player I know that has gone to the NFL was a kicker.  And don\'t you think if you were a Rugby player, and had the chance to get paid millions and millions of dollars, you would take it.

BTW heres a question, I understand that soccer is the most played sport in the world,  but why is the superbowl the most watched event in the world? <-- not sarcastic

First off, to answer someone\'s question on why American Football is called football.  It was named that way cuz the pigskin is exactly one foot in length.  That\'s it.

And about Americans not really being into soccer much, well, I didn\'t really like soccer at all when I was in the states, but after having moved to Japan, I find myself keeping track of soccer(football) a lot, and I sit there and actually watch the games with interest.  Funny, cuz now I can name a few significant players, whom I would\'ve never known had I stayed in the states.  It all has to do with the media, and how they take up the sport.  If the American media took up soccer like they do here in japan, and showed all the intriguing things about the sport, then I\'d grant a lot of people would find themselves interested in the sport.  Same goes with American Football.  If it was covered in detail in Europe, then I\'m pretty sure there\'d be a lot of people interested in the sport.  Its just a matter of media coverage, and how in depth those coverage goes.  If the media doesnt explain the small details, and show the parts of soccer that makes soccer interesting, then no one in the states are gonna actually want to watch soccer.  They just won\'t get the significance of the sport.. that\'s it.

So its the americans that are ignorant about sports:rolleyes:
American football takes more skill than you could imagine and you don\'t give it any respect, atleast I said something good about football (soccer).  And to say that football just requires you to be specialized at one thing sounds good but isn\'t true.  For instance, a Reciever has to be able to block, run, catch, and flow.  Sounds like more stuff than any of you could handle.  I\'d like to see some of those Rugby players run a 4.2.  I\'m considered fast in track and I can only run a 4.8.  Thats a long ass time between 4.2 and 4.8.  Only the top notch athletes ever make it far in football, so its really no different than how one of you explained the skill involved in soccer.  Oh and Warren Sapp runs a 4.4 even though hes a heavy ass linemen.  Now thats amazing.

Sapp is DL, played for Florida, and interestingly enough, took The Rocks spot on the Defensive Line.

theres a few possibilities here..

a) the fact that nobody plays rugby in USA therefore the american rugby player sucks therefore they will not be offered that money

b) people from other countries do indeed hate NFL.. and arent as money driven as americans

c)  the fact that its a different sport and requires different skills.. they might not be the best at {insert specific job you play for 5 minutes for here} in NFL, but you take a guy from NFL the best at what he does and put him in rugby and you see how well he will do.. hell i bet he would be walking around confused at what is going on because they dont stop every 13 seconds

bah, i lost my train of thought, i had a few other reasons.. but.. eh well

are you claiming that NFL is the most played sport in the world?  because i can tell you that it wouldnt be in the top ten.  Soccer itself doesnt have a single yearly event as NFL, what they do have (i.e. the European leagues) also arent as much of a spectical or the \'pinnicle\' of their sport.. there are many many reasons for this
Title: Football lover?? New screens from football game of Square
Post by: kokopuphz on April 21, 2002, 09:14:19 PM
The biggest sporting events over the entire world are:
     a) Olympics
     b) FIFA World Cup Soccer
     c) F1 Racing
basically, it ranks up there, and American Football is definitely not on the list.  Superbowl is the most tuned in television show in America, but I have never heard that it was the case for the world-wide audience.  Japanese here couldn\'t really care less as to who won the Superbowl, but they sure as hell care as to who won the World Cup.

Soccer being one of the biggest worldwide sport is a given.

And there debateably many reasons as to why:
     a) Soccer requires little money to play.  You have something that rolls and a pair of feet, you can play soccer
     b) ..... okay, I lost my train of thought too.. but a is probably the biggest reason anyways.

I wouldn\'t seriously debate which sport is better than which sport, because every sport have their differences.  Personally I think Basketball is the greatest sport ever.  Some others would say hockey, some would say soccer, some would say football.  Even a few would probably select Curling over any of those.  They\'re all sports, and they\'re all professional sports for a good reason or another.

But the naming is confusing, and often times one is talked about instead of the other, etc. but as I pointed out before, American Football was called Football simply because the pigskin is a foot long.  Just some stupid idiot American back in the days, who didn\'t realize that his decision of words would make such a ruckus in the world of sports 1200 years afterwards..

My earlier question as to why the Superbowl was the most watched one day sporting event has been answered...by myself!

I was wrong when I said it was numero uno, I found out that while it has 1 billion viewers, it is not the top show. I found this on a site:

"For instance, the estimated audience for the soccer World Cup is more than 2 billion viewers worldwide for the single-day championship match. Cricket\'s World Cup has an estimated 2.5 billion viewers worldwide, but receives scant attention in the United States. The Rugby World Cup claimed 2.5 billion viewers for its 1995 broadcast from South Africa. "

But for those soccer fans out their, just keep in mind Cricket is still beating you, and i think we can all agree that Cricket sucks ass!

There is no way that cricket is more watched than football!!!!

Anyway, football is called football, full stop. American football is called American football, full stop. You yanks cant say, \'blah, blah, should be called soccer.\' The point is, what the sports are called should be based on a WORLDWIDE view. This means that football IS the game where you kick the round ball with your feet. This thread has got totally out of hand, all adan was trying to do was show some pictures after all!!

You want to know what my favourite sport is, to reach for the remote whenever they have some stupid sports even on. Hell they should have an announcer for it,
Announcer: "the match is starting, nO-One reaches for the remote on the table. Will he brake his old record of 2 minutes 42 seconds?"

The great thing about sex is, everyone\'s a winner!  Well unless I finish first, then I\'m the winner, and I celebrate by going to sleep.

I am literally LMAO at that.

As for Soccer......BOOO!! Did you guys see the episode of the Simpsons when they were at the soccer game? That is how I feel about soccer. Just not that fun to watch. For me that is.

Soccer players on the other hand are incredible athletes. I remember how the Soccer team would practice on the field next to us when we I Football practice. I swear those guys would run for like 5 hours straight. When I think about it now they should have practiced shooting and goalkeeping also because they really sucked.

BTW, I\'ve been playing American Football since I was about 8 years old(13 years) so maybe I\'m a bit biased.

Lets see some Madden screenshots. :D

Cricket, lawn bowling, and field hockey are some of the sports you other people play in the world, now the fact that we americans may suck at football(soccer) doesnt make the rest of our sports nonathletic, why dont you\'ll come over here and try playin football or basketball, explains why our mens team wins the damn thing every olympics. if you are tryin to make a case that our sports are very unathletic and you my friend are ignorant, so go strap on some pads and find your nearest pub and have that 300 pound regular u always see in there sit on ya, see how it feels then come talk sh!t.

I love soccer actually, and agree that the usa sux at it!

It\'s called SOCCER!!
And it\'s bloody GAY!!!!
And it is very pointless and VERY boring.

Ok lets watch a bunch of midgets run around for 3 hours and MAYBE we will see one score.

BOOOOORING.

You know why it\'s SOOOOO popular over there?
It\'s fu$king all you have to DO over there.
That\'s all there is as far as sports go.
unlike the USA where we have MANY sports.
We have Basketball, Baseball, Hockey, FOOTBALL (the real football not busted ass Soccer.) Not to mention all the COLLEGE sports we have over here.

And we have the FUNDS to support ALL of our teams and ALL of our sports. The only reason is soccer is so big over there is because it\'s the only thing you have and can support.
You Europies could not even support an American friggin little league team. So go suck it Europies!

This is incredible... I haven\'t seen a large amount of nonsenses together in my life... sad but true...

Gman2 have you seen any time a football match in your life? :D Cause you haven\'t any idea what it\'s.

I\'ll think if I put those lines as my quote cause it\'s great my friend...

I honestly must not understand tthe finer points os soccer, because it really does bore me.  This is possibly the reason foriegn countries dislike Football(American), we both have little knowledge of the eachother\'s countries sports, and dislike the unknown.

we have a lot more knowledge about your sports than you have about ours. It\'s just the way you yanks are, you don\'t give a **** about anything non-american and that\'s fine by me, you\'re the ones missing out.

Gman2, you made such an ass out of yourself there. A football match is 90mins, and if you think a football match needs goals to be entertaining you\'re just plain stupid. That\'s all you americans whine about, stats this and stats that and goals. I can understand why you yanks think goals are important in a sport coz that\'s the only thing in american football that\'s more interesting than watching someone scratch their fat ass. Football is a combination of so many things, so it doesn\'t really matter if there are goals or not, of course i\'d prefer goals. And if every football goal counted 6 points I bet the scores wouldn\'t be a that much lower than yankee football.
Football is grace, style and skill.

Americans must be the most arrogant and narrow minded people on earth.

Don\'t include every american person in there, the next time your country needs help then don\'t come beggin us to help ya\'lls ass. This is funny that this thread started out to preview a game and has turned out to be a bunch of ignorance on both sides.

As fare as i know USA and Canada ain\'t the only one who plays hockey or basketball for that sake.

True, baseball and the american football isn\'t big in europe but instead they play cricket and rugby, just a question of taste I guess.

wow Gman, every sport you mentioned (except for american football, and baseball) is played around here, and we have all those leagues you talked about, hell there are even funds for these sports.

Ohh and just so you know, every sports even you talk about is on TV here aswell. I can watch the NFL, NHL and NBA playoffs and matches if I want to, however I despise sports so I won\'t.

Seriously, do you think Europe is like a place from the middle ages? Never ever have a seen a post filled with as much ignorance is yours.

Ditto that opinion, but it happens everywhere, and its something that just won\'t ever disappear.  Especially in those countries that are predominantly one race or another.  Like in Japan, I was wearing a short sleeved shirt on a breezy Spring day, and my co-worker had to comment \'You\'re sooo American wearing a short sleeved shirt today.\'  Basically I was like, WTF??? but oh well.  I probably do the same thing too.

Fastson: I love the map.
Theomen: GO LAKERS!!!!!! (p.s. i like how your comment about ps2_girl is in Gold, and the Kings comment is in Purple.. Hmmm... Lakers colors? ;)

Actually, I like the Kings too, and if any team is to beat the Lakers this year, it\'d better be the Kings.  Other than them, the only other team I like are the Clippers =)

Bleh, what a frigging waste of space and time. You guys whine way too much!

TOBG: The guy who started the topic is from SPAIN where they call soccer FOOTBALL (like a LOT of other people/countries), therefore he has every right to name the thread that. You don\'t like it? Too bad.

Gman: Geez, that was just moronic. I really hope you weren\'t serious because then you\'re just plain sad.

You guys should listen to kokopuphz. He\'s one of the few people here not talking $hit.

If anyone actually wants to discuss the football/soccer game, you can start a new thread. This one is now closed.
