Yes, it\'s playoff time. Predictions anyone? I\'m going with Paul Pierce and Boston out of the east and the Mavs out west. How \'bot you guys?

Shockwaves just because your fancy New York teams are always awesome (yankees, jets, giants) most of the time and my boston teams go no where doesn\'t mean that they will this year

I agree with you, The Pistons are surprising the hell out of me this year. Jerry Stackhouse is DA MAN.

Question: How are you not surprised by Boston at the same time I mean they went from the bottom of the barrel to the top

The bottom line is this is largely the same team that missed the playoffs last year. They have pierce and walker, but little else. That will work for them in the regular season, but once they face a true quality playoff opponent, they\'ll struggle.
Detroit is really impressing me. They are a very ballanced team. Ben Wallace is only 6th on the team in scoring. That says something. We\'ve seen in the past that Stackhouse can score a lot of points too, if they need someone to carry them.
Also, being from New York, I live by a little saying that goes something like this: "Defense wins championships" Detroit has the NBA\'s defensive MVP, and were one of the top defensive teams this season. You can also add to that the fact that Detroit was one of the best rebounding teams this season. They are my pick to come out of the east.
As for if they can actually beat the Lakers, I didn\'t honestly think they could. My first post was a joke. I do, however, think that Dallas, Sacramento, or San Antonio could. And if there is any team in the east that can, it\'s Detroit.

Well living in Nor-Cal all my life, I\'m a life long Sac-Town fan, so obviously I\'m saying the Kings are gonna take it. The Kings vs Lakers series will be tight, but the home court advantage and the ravenous Kings fans will sway the scales in Sac\'s favor.

Yeah, Boston is basically the same team that they were last year but Pierce turned into the player that I knew he could be, an MVP candidate in the NBA. And if Walker is on they have a very good team.
Detroit impressed me too. Jerry Stackhouse has learned to share the ball and they got some defense. The 2nd round matchup with them and Boston should be a great series...i\'m goin with Boston in 7.
I agree with you shock on the "defense wins games" thing, but the Mavs are an exception to that. They have 5 guys who can score anywhere on the floor. LaFrentz (sp?) can hit the occasional three and is pretty good down low. Nowitzki, you know what he can do. Finley can score. Then Nash and Van Exel at guards. Deadly combination. I don\'t think the Spurs can beat the Lakers, not with only Duncan. He has pretty much carried the team the whole year but he can\'t beat the Lakers by himself, and I don\'t really see anyone else on the team who can step up. The Kings can light up the score board too. They have depth in the bench and can score from many positions as well. Mavs over Kings in 7...in a nail-biter.

Defense wins games. The Mavs are no exception. They are just lucky enough to be playing in the wild wild west, where no one in their half of the bracket plays defense. Not the T-Wolves, and not the Kings. That\'s why they\'ll get to the Lakers. The Lakers should beat them though. Three things win games: power, defense, and rebounding. LA is best in the west in all 3 if you ask me. Detroit is best in the east.

Well Tony(shockwaves) the Celtics swept the Lakers this year, so if there is a team in the East that can beat the Lakers, its the Celtics. Detroit is good, if Stackhouse has a good series then the Pistons will probably beat the Celtics. I still think the Kings are the team to beat.

It doesn\'t matter if San Antonio only lost to the Lakers once, Shaq was probably hurt two of those games. The Mavs will give any team a hard time, and you can\'t argue that. They should give the Lakers one hell of a fight. These playoffs have alot of interesting matchups, and it should be fun to watch.

I think we can all agree on one thing, whoever wins the western division is going to take the championship.
And whats this only Duncan business? The team that played the season will be in the Playoffs, they\'re still the same. True that without Duncan they wouldn\'t have a chance, but IMO, they have a 50/50 of atleast getting to the Semifinals.

The Knicks swept the Lakers last year. That means nothing Fayded. The East always does have a chance. It may not be that great, but stranger things have happened. By the way, I think that the Lakers come out of the west. The Mavs, Kings, and Spurs all have a chance at beating them, but it is a very small chance.

Defense wins games, yes it CAN, but having TO\'s is what is the big part of defense, and no one get\'s turnovers, and capitalizes on them like the Kings. Also a big part of winning games is depth, and what team has the best depth in basketball? The Kings (thank you Geoff Petrie) You also need a wide variety of weapons, like good a inside game, fundamental shooting, three point shooting, and good transition offence, which means the Kings and Mavs will have an upper hand in this area.
I\'m not saying the Kings are a lock for the finals, I\'m just pointing out that all 4 top western teams have a very tough road ahead of them, and hopefully that road will go through Sacramento!

Sure, they just baraly made it into the playoffs this year and already lost their first game to the Kings, but I still have faith in them. Wouldn\'t it be funny if the team with the worst record (out of the teams in the playoffs) won the finals? :)

Yea, remember the 8th seeded Knicks a few years back? They almost took it home!
It\'s really a tossup in the west, too many good teams.. But I still say Lakers.
In the east, I\'m going for New Jersey or Detroit.

In the west, all I\'m saying is that the Lakers are still the team to beat. Everyone does, or at least should know that. There is no team you would rather have your team beat. There are other teams that have a chance. I\'d say it\'s about a 50% chance that the Lakers win it all, and 50% that anyone else does. In otherwords, the Lakers are still the best team out there, and the team to beat.

Lakers easily going to three-peat. Lets not forget about how much of a playoff genious Phil Jackson is. And how the Lakers\' stats are always twice as better in the playoffs than the regular season.
First they will clear through the Blazers, for the Blazers have absolutely no discipline at all.
As for other teams in the west like the Mavs... I don\'t think so. Spurs are the only team I feel can compete with L.A. for the west because they have the best chance of defending Shaq...
And lets face it... THE EAST SUCKS!
