Title: Final Fantasy
Post by: Metal Gear on April 23, 2002, 01:38:01 AM
I just got a playstation2 and I was thinking of buying final fantasy 9 for playstation1.I must note that this will be my first final fantasy game(A lot of people will call me an idiot by now).Anyway is it worth it?

P.S:I heard you need a memory card for ps1 to save ps1 games. Is this true and if it\'s true can you plug the memory card for ps1 next to the memory card I already have for ps2?

Any help would be appreciated.

yeah !

if you use yur Ps2 card in slot one and
your PS card in Slot two

you can play and save your games with out fear of having to remove them or swap them when you want to play and save PS games on your PS2

I\'d recommend you go for FFVII at first.

Yeah, for a FF virgin, I\'d go:

FFVII
FFIX

Then you should have a feel as to whether or not you\'d like FFVIII

And then, of course, FFX.

I\'ll probably catch hell for this, but I think FFIX sucks ass. Personally, I prefer FFVIII to IX, but I think Hawke has the right idea in that you should buy FFVII first. It\'s simply the best of the series, even if it\'s kinda outdated graphically. If graphics don\'t matter tho, you might wanna look at picking up the FF Anthology since FF 5 & 6 are also among the cream of the Final Fantasy crop.

no!  all the final fantasy games storylines are connected!  play from Final Fantasy 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.. if you skip straight to 9 the ENTIRE series will be ruined for you, plus you wont know ANYTHING about what is going on!

play 1 first

(note:  i am joking, play 7 first)

you may not like the final fantasy series, they arent for everyone.. but if you click with FF7 like I did.. you will be a very very happy man..

So, If I were to get FF10, will I be confused seeing as I\'ve never played any of the others?

Nope, none of the stories are connected.  It\'s like with the whole Star Wars thing.  I want new people to the movies see them in the same order that I have/will see them (episode 4,5,6,1,2,3,7,8,9).

Even though VII and the others are great games, it\'s sometimes hard to go backwards graphic-wise.

I aggreee...IMHO they went Backward when they made FF VIII Graphics wise......the characters especially......I Know that was their first attempt at making "real" looking people for in-game...not too bad but hey could have done a little better.....

It doesn\'t really matter which one to start off with. But I would buy 7 before I would get 9. FF9 is basically the farewell for the FF series on the PS1.

Final Fantasy IX is my favorite of the series.  It had the most character and I loved the abilities system.  The characters were all cool too except for Quina, s/he grew on me after a while...

Oh yeah, Kuja was so bad ass...

If I had to do it all over again, I would go FFX, FFVII, FFIX...X was the biggest disappointment for me in a long time as far as videogames go...Too much drama.

Bah, the real gem of the FF Ps1 games is FF4, part of the Final Fantasy Chronicles package. Trust me, this game has a great story, memorable tunes, likable characters, etc. It goes back to the traditional earn -exp-to -increase -attributes- learn- spells -at -certain -levels\'- characters-have -different- job- classes kind of days. Not saying that the others are bad, it\'s just no one\'s mentioned it yet.

BTW, FF9 was good, but the ability and trance systems sucked major ass.

I would say get 7, but at least rent X, because that\'ll give ya a good feel as to what the PS2 can do.  But beware the CG\'s can cause orgasms!

The thing is I\'ve never been into turn based rpg\'s.I was always more a fan of the real time rpg.I can\'t tell you how long I\'ve spent behind my snes playing Zelda and secret of mana(the good old days).I recently downloaded a snes emulator for my pc and I started playing chronotrigger.It\'s turnbased but it\'s not bad.So I tought I will give turn based a change and what better game to start with then Final fantasy!

Anyway thanks for your replies and I am sure I will enjoy any Final fantasy game I buy.

Thanks a lot!

My favorite characters ever would have to be Celes, Aeris, ViVi, Lulu, Rikku, Dagger, Eiko, Zidane, Amarant...

I just favor FFIX over any other RPG...the story, characters, humor, seriousness, abilities system(I seem to be alone on this one).

I must say that the sphere grid in FFX is the best, as long as you feel like fighting enough to reach the good stuff or you can get the double AP ability:D

Get FFIX. I don\'t think I\'ve played a game where I liked ALL the characters, even the bad guys, except for FFIX. The storyline is great and the ending is awesome. My favorite FF game.
