And there\'s plenty of reason for Microsoft not to like the book. "Any of the insidery stuff they just really didn\'t want to get out," Takahashi told Salon. "The fact that the initial code name was Project Midway -- they don\'t want the Japanese people to know that because it will hurt their feelings." The article explains that the Battle of Midway in 1942 was the turning point of the Pacific War. And this is in direct reference to the fact that before the launch of the Xbox, all of the console game makers--Sony, Nintendo, and Sega--were Japanese companies.
Project Midway.
How stupid can you get?
The Japanese will get pissed.

Very interesting read. I didn\'t quite get it at first, but then I read the full thing. Woah, this sure is bad timing and really bad news for Microsoft in general. This could not only hurt Xbox, but also Microsoft.

If you want more, here\'s a long article about Seamus Blackley from Dean Takahashi\'s book, Opening the Xbox: Captain Xbox (http://redherring.com/insider/2002/0411/2270.html)
In it I found more damning still how the term ‘midway\' originally came into play. It arose in the beginning because the plan called for designing a system ‘midway\' between a console and PC. That it tied into the turning point of WWII for the Japanese was an after thought, the teams own little inside joke and rally cry. In light of the ‘A Games Only System!\' front MS was pushing later on, I really wonder which meaning they would like to see buried the deepest.

This has to be the most ridiculous thing I\'ve heard yet.
Keep it coming.

yeah remember the ditty a few years back that if you did a search for the word "monkey" in one of thier apps [encarta it might have been, i dunno] it showed a picture of negro kids playing on a jungle gym
m$ offered a patch to fix it, but the lawsuits were already filing
but i guess its no worse than disgruntled disney animators placing slides of naked chicks in thier artwork
/me shrugs
