Title: Sorry folks, but Celda looks cool
Post by: Eiksirf on April 28, 2002, 12:47:36 PM
I\'ve said that if you see it in motion, "Cel-da" isn\'t really that bad.  Well I just saw a new movie that reaffirmed my belief.

http://www.shiggy.net/pgcvideo/secret.wmv

Excuse the advertisement for a website\'s upcoming DVD, and wait through a few clips of Mario Sunshine.  The Zelda footage that follows is pretty damn cool looking.  It looks like a cartoon movie.

Don\'t take my word for it, take a look. ;]

BTW, Mario isn\'t so bad looking, either.

Yeah, I agree....but Link\'s new face still gives me the creeps;)
   Not bad at all, though.

I\'ve been telling people all along that Zelda would be good if you actually saw it in motion.  Besides, I\'ve been saying forever, the graphics, as much as people fixate on them, are only a small part of the game.  As long as the game design is similar to the Zelda games that came before it, I\'ll buy and enjoy this game.

From what I\'ve seen, it was never so much the graphics that made Zelda special.  It was the gameplay.

Great news for Gamecube owner\'s, I suppose. IMO, the SNES Zelda was the best.:)

I wonder what will happen if you run Link into a lake...  With a bit of luck, it might turn out to be a game you\'ll enjoy, afterall. ;]

On an aside, the best is when you try to gather a bunch of blue Pikmin and you get like one yellow in there.  So you try to separate them again but it just gets worse...  That\'s when I like to take just the yellow one and fling him into a lake...

I really need to play this game again!

Its going to be a great game. Although I believe it will lack the depth of Ocarina of Time due to the immaturity of it. Will be fun, but I doubt it will appeal to me.

..explain..?  what immaturity?

I agree that Ocarina of Time was a great game.  In fact, I never got Majora\'s Mask because it seemed like "more of the same" to me.  Looking back on that decision maybe it\'s better, then, that the new Zelda will be so different in style and, apparently, atmosphere.

Though I\'ll admit, that sword fighting scene that looked oh-so-real still seems like a blast to play.

And as for the immaturity thing, I took that in the sense that it will be less "mature" (realistic and moody) and more light-hearted and fun.  The word he used was "immature," but I can only imagine that\'s how he meant it.

Least he didn\'t say "kiddy." ;]

he said it would lack depth because of its immaturity..

i just wanna know why he thinks that  :)

I mean that because the theme is so immature, there is nothing to be real serious about in the game... Eik was on the money pretty much.

and Majora\'s Mask is actually really different, IMO. And when asked which is better I can\'t really say.

I enjoyed TOOT, and can see where the "best game of all time" talk comes from.. it\'s an extremely solid game.

Nevertheless, SNES\'s LTTP easily eclipses it for me. The best music, the coolest gameplay (pretty much the masterful Zelda I\'s gameplay refined and perfected) and sweet graphics for its time.

If you want to "go there".. I think it was more "mature" than TOOT, too. ;)

Not to mention how it had no truly frustrating temples.. ala TOOT\'s Water Temple.. argh!
Title: Sorry folks, but Celda looks cool
Post by: SwifDi on April 28, 2002, 07:22:54 PM
OOT\'s temples were just classic. I never got into LTTP because I played OOT before it, so I never was really motivated to continue my very short-lived record in it.

But god how I could play the Forest Temple over and over. I swear to you I know every corner, every nook, basically everything in that game.

Vapor: You really should complete LTTP.. if not on the SNES, try a SNES emulator.

TOOT kicks ass, and LTTP is basically a 2D TOOT with less storyline.

The Forest Temple is my favorite temple in TOOT too, BTW. :) I love that eerie music..

Post by: Eiksirf on April 28, 2002, 07:50:45 PM
I agree about the Forest Temple.  I truly appreciated the developers\' effort after I was finished with it.  It had its own learning curve and rewards.  When I found the first key I thought I found something before I was supposed to.  I found out later that I did, indeed, need to get it then, and my having explored about to find it saved me the back tracking.  I just really enjoyed it.

With LTTP, I never finished it, myself.  I made it to the Dark World or whatever it was called, and couldn\'t figure out where to go next.  Since then I\'ve become so removed from the game that I wouldn\'t have a clue what was going on if I picked it up.  The funny thing is that I apparently had it for a while and didn\'t even know it.  I was actually surprised to find it with the rest of my games one day, and played it half way through from that point...

Haha!

Great pic mm.

Blade, do you have a good link for a SNES emulator?
Title: Sorry folks, but Celda looks cool
Post by: Hawke on April 28, 2002, 11:31:28 PM
Give bored Hawke PhotoShop and some pics. (http://www.geocities.com/hawkerx13/zelda.html)

I hate when I can\'t direct link pics

LTTP is still my favourite Zelda of all time. I\'ve finished it, what, about 6-7 times, getting all the stuff in the game. And I still want more! My GBA wants LTTP!

OoT was fabulous, Majora\'s Mask a bit less so, though it had some great moments.

And Celda is looking very good IMO. I thought it looked horrid before I saw it moving. It\'ll still be weird adjusting to the style...

EDIT : Vapor, I suggest you search for SNES9X. Best SNES emulator I\'ve found (DOS based).

Edit: Err, that was a little lightheaded on my part. The ROM part, anyhow.

I\'m pretty sure that you can link to emulators without getting in trouble with the manufacturer..

Just the agility of Link in the Celda videos has me foaming at the mouth with anticipation.  I mean, the combat system looks completely revamped and very interesting as well.  Can you imagine the host of new options that the comabt system must have with weapons other than the sword?  I remember awhile ago, a friend and I (Mejilan) were consulting on multiplayer possibilities and new combat strategies possible with Zelda.  I\'ll dig up that post from another board and post it here.

Looking back on that thread, there is just far too much to paste for you all to read, so I\'ll just give highlights here.

Multiplayer Zelda ideas

Some ideas could be really successful, for example: Lets say after beating the game a few times, you open up MANY different characters to play the game through with, but they can only be used in the multiplayer adventure. Ok, here\'s where it gets interesting, suppose each character has different attributes, for example, magic, or speed, or strength or many other attributes. The attrbutes can be used in conjucture with each other to make a really powerful team. --

Although I\'m sure most of us would wretch at the idea of zelda split screen, how about we set it up for many different options of view. Lets say, instead of a 3rd person camera, how about fixed cameras in the level offering great perspective views for each situation. Sure, some of you would say Resident Evil right away, but the cameras can pan, drag, and drop as well when the two characters advance on screen. If that idea isn\'t appealing enough, we can always revert to a link-cable-esque form of gameplay where 2 TV\'s can be hooked together and the same adventure can be enjoyed from individual perspectives for that full screen look, or you can always stick with the tried and true and go for the split screen mode as stated before. (I\'d personally take the RE style angles myself.) --

First of all, the GBA version. A cool idea of being able to split the players up. You don\'t necessarily have to adventure in the same screen. With that, he spit out the cool idea of reintroducing the Dark World from Zelda 3 (the Sacred Realm from Zelda 5) into the game. Imagine playing a 2 player game in this style, with one player in Hyrule, and the other in the same exact area but in the Sacred Realm. You\'d see the other player as a cool ghostly image, now imagine solving puzzles simultaneously in the same exact place but in the opposite worlds! Cool, huh? --

Instead of just powering a sword, how about an attack that can be unleased thanks to the properties of the magic and the skill of link and his sword. For example, link can do a quick spin and launch a flaming tornado at an enemy that is both powerful and an elemental. I dunno, i just love the idea behind double team attacks

Another idea I had between Link and Viscen whereas Viscen picks up Link and throws him at an enemy at super speed using his shield as a type of barricade inflicting heavy damage to the opponent. Almost like a Collosus\\Wolverine attack in the X-Men comics. I just think combo attacks would make the game so much more interesting and worth while as a true team effort based multiplayer quest.

That\'s all for now.  I hope someone actually reads that, but I doubt it.

yeah that and the time system from majoras mask

were people can be found going about their lifes while you do the adventuring

:D

Also having some time based sub plots would be cool

for example you could be given a time limit to defend a town or farm from monsters (just like the "UFO" mission in  majoras mask)

Also other weapons would be very nice
Crossbow
Poleaxe
mace
Battle Axe
etc
