my sister is 23 and is going to graduate from university in 2 weeks, and i want to get her a gift. what should i get her?
i\'m ruling out clothing, and money(i want it to be a little thought out). i was thinking about a watch, but she went and bought one yesterday. i have no clue on what to get her, i can spend a couple hundred bucks.
any suggestions?
-
MALE STRIPPER!
i hear theomen is available.
-
Some neat furniture piece for an apartment or something, I assume she\'ll be on her own.
-
Cool my sis\' is graduating in 1 more month as well from Northwestern!
I\'m too much of an a-hole to get her anything... Perhaps my game boy color could be of some use (after I dust it, clear the cobwebs, add non-leaking batteries)?

c\'mon now, at least get her a card, hallmark says a lot :)

No. Cards = Money. I can make a good card using Microsoft Word.
No, I\'ll most likely get her a card.

I\'ll assume she\'s from Oklahoma as well. In that case you should git \'er a stetson hat and some croc-skin boots.
Okay, well if she\'s graduating from college, she\'s probably anxious to begin a career. Maybe a really nice leather-bound planner thing, or even a palm-pilot like device if you can find one for a couple hundred. Maybe a briefcase? I suppose it depends what her career path will be. Try to make it something practical, along with a card with a few nice lines written by you. Hope that helps!

the palm pilot is a good idea, but she\'s not that great with new tech stuff, does anyone know if those are easy to use?
-
My palm is on auto-pilot....;)

One of the coolest things that I have found to put a smile on the face of my sister was a gift certificate to a spa. They can go and get a manicure, pedicure, full body message and be treated like a queen for a day. This could be just what she needs after all those years of school.
-
I just had a thought! How \'bout getting her a permit to have a book burning party! I don\'t know how much they cost, or how you get one, all I know is you need one. Then she can pile all thoses worthless textbooks that won\'t sell-back for much anyways into a pile, add some lighter fluid, and dance amongst the flames, celebrating her freedom from education!

Forgive me for saying so Trog, but is it wrong for me to assume you are being facetious in the statement above? I hope you are, for freedom is, as I would say, a product of higher education. I do not mean to say that all freedom is a product of a higher education.
I am just saying that in most cases, with a higher education you can go further in life. I hope that once she gets a job that is a direct benefit to the education she has received, she will see the fruits of her labor, and be happy with all she has accomplished.
Sorry for babbling a bit too much. Your post just sparked something in me that I had to get out.;)

Sorry Rick, just having a rough day at the office. I have to get these programs out by 4 PM today and what they have dished out to me is what on an average day takes about 11 hours or so. I got here at 6 AM and I have been busting arse since then.;)

Dude, whatever.
I\'m in college \'cause I want more freedom to choose what I want to do with my life, that doesn\'t mean I love every second of education.
College is dandy and all, but I can\'t wait until homework and tests are far behind me. What better way to end torture than to burn the instruments of torture?

How the hell do you manage to be on the forums most of the day then?????? :D

In writing code, I have a few spare minutes here and there to spend on the forums while the programs run through their calculations. It’s tricky but I manage.
As for Trog:
If you say that you are in college by choice to have more freedom after you are out, and the books you use are the devices of torture, wouldn’t that inadvertently make you a sadist?

By definition, no, I don\'t derive pleasure from education. I get a little piece of paper in which to derive pleasure from.
So, you\'re telling me that the pilgrims should have never made their hard-fought voyage for a better life in the Americas?

Well of course not, however you got that from my statements above is… well, interesting to say the least.
I would say though that the reasons for their pilgrimage was not by definition for educational freedoms as much as it was for freedom of religion due to the oppressive state that the church had them in over seas.
And that is freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion. Just thought I would throw that in there, it seemed fitting.

I\'m just saying not all of life\'s journeys are all daisies, and that a celebration of hard times are in order, even though because of the hard times one\'s life can be better. I think I\'m going in circles here. . . back to studying organismal biology!

If your sister likes stuffed animals there\'s a place where she can stuff her own doll. It\'s called Build-a-Bear Workshop and it\'s all over the country. THe only one that\'s in Oklahoma isn\'t open yet, but on the website you can order Bear Bucks which are gift certificates. She can wait until the store opens or she can have one made and dressed and sent to her through the internet. Or you can have one made over the internet and have it sent to her. They probably have some graduation gowns and hats. I\'d promote this shop for any occassion for guy or girl. It\'s a totally fun experience when you go have the doll made. Here\'s the website: http://www.buildabear.com/
Another idea for a gift is to buy something that would associate with whatever she wants to do career-wise. Like if she is going to be a doctor you can buy her a doctor\'s coat with her name and cute messages from family and friends embroidered along the seem.
You can make something for her. Maybe a CD of her favorite songs. Or you can make something that can involve family and friends participation or messages, like a video of good luck. Take your video camera around and collect messages from parents, best friends, boyfriend, boyfriend\'s parents, cousins, whoever.
Hope that helps. :)

she loves stuffed animals, thanks for the link. she also loves winnie the pooh stuffed toys, but she has like all of them, so i doubt i can find one that she doesn\'t have. i was thinking of a big stuffed animal, thats holding a basket filled with stuff from bath and body works or something, and maybe a gift certificate or something. how does that sound?

I recently was at the Disney store and I saw this Tigger bubble blower. I don\'t know if they have Winnie though. If you have an FAO Schwartz, they\'ve got plenty of large stuffed animals there. If you can\'t find one that\'s holding a basket, buy one and attach it on the doll somehow. And no one can ever go wrong with gift certificates. :)

Get her a vibrator. And lots of packs of titanium batteries.

Dude, by her a dildo. It is awesome. You could sit back and watch her take care of action when you are all tired and then demand a hummer.
Oh wait, she\'s your sister...
Well, why don\'t you buy her one and then give us all her number.
OK, That was a joke.
Get the chick some chocolate.
-
Better yet, buy her a stuffed animal and a dildo, if she doesn\'t like the animal she can go home and fsck herself :D
j/k

i\'m gonna go to the disney store and see if they have any graduation stuffed animals, they have them on there site, but i want to see if i can get one at the store. i doubt there is a FAO Schwartz around, but if its a big chain, i\'ll check on it.
where would you suggest getting a gift certificate from?

FAO Schwartz is a big named store. Found in NY and SF. They\'re basically the competitor of Toys R Us. You might want to see if they have a website too. I\'m pretty sure that there are Winnie the Pooh grad-theme stuff. I have a photo frame of with Winnie in a graduation gown! I think they have those small stuffed Winnie\'s with the year somewhere on the doll. That\'d be so cute. You might want to get a wicker (sp?) basket and fill it up with Winnie-themed-graduation-themed stuff!
As for gift certificates, you can get them from practically anywhere. Like before, Build-a-Bear has certificates. If you want to go with Bath and Body...I\'m sure they have certificates too. Personally if I were to get Bath and Body stuff, I\'d go with the candles, lip balms, lotions, bath salts and not soaps and perfumes. Maybe I\'m over analyzing, but when I get Bath and Body stuff that are for cleaning purposes it\'s like the person who gave them to me say that I smell. However like I said, I\'m probably overanalyzing.
Anyway, another place you can get gift certificates from is, of course, the Disney store. If she\'s planning on moving out, you can try Ikea or other furniture stores. If you have some theatres around and she\'s into theatrical stuff you can get her tickets to that.
Another gift certificate idea is to make your own. Like, lets say that she wants a stuffed animal. YOu can make a fake dollar thing that says, "Redemable (sp?) for a stuffed animal of your choice at the store of your choice." Put some credit amount on the piece of paper. That way she can choose what she likes at whatever store. It would be less restricting.
That\'s all I can think of right now. Hope that helps (or makes sense!).

whoa, thanks, thats a lot of info. i got this talking winnie the pooh for her from the disney store cause i know that she doesn\'t have one that talks. i also bought a gift basket from bath and body works, its a melon something theme. now i just need a goo card(plenty of hallmarks around), and the gift certificate. i might get her an old navy gift certificate, since she likes to shop there a lot(she calls them, "the poor man\'s gap store"). thanks for the suggestions, i didn\'t have time to build a bear or anything, so i\'ll consider that for another occasion.

I\'m glad I can help out. :)

Well Pooh is great and all, but I would definitely suggest the dildo thing as well. I think she\'d get far more use out of it than a stuffed animal.
