That\'s great news. SH & SH2 had nothing to do with each other, so you have to wonder what 3\'s gonna be about.

How do you mean had nothing to do with each other? They\'ve both demonstrated how Silent Hill works. They\'re both pretty similar, but totally different... err... right. It\'s just so damn well thought out I could just give the writer a big fat kiss right now. [long long slab\'o\'text that I can\'t post because of potential spoilers, damn] I can\'t wait to see what SH3 will teach us.. time for a history lesson? :D
That town is alive...

woooo i loved sh and sh2...cant wait for sh3.....yeah!!!!!!!1

Silent Hill 2 was terrible and I would of been perfectly happy if they never made another one. Oh well, it has fans ... As for the Contra note, I hope they don\'t screw it over like they did a couple years ago. Oh and what happened to the new 2D Installment of CastleVania for home consoles that was promised about a year ago? Yeah....
-
Dammit LIC! why must you hate everything? (bastard!)
anyways, WOOO SH3!
-
must admit i prefered sh to sh2..not to say i didnt love sh2, just ...i dunno....i prefered the 1st one

Storywise, they had nothing to do with one another. They weren\'t even the same Silent Hill, as both had different street names, etc.
-
From what I can gather, it is the same city, but different areas. The stories are not connected. What connects the games is the town itself. Basically, Silent Hill 1 takes place like north of where Silent Hill 2 takes place (guess Silent Hill is a little big).
While I still felt that Silent Hill 2 did maintain the same kind of feel the first one had (the atmosphere for example), have to admit, in terms of story (which would pull me in to these kinds of games) first one is better. Also, the puzzles and so forth, without a little help, does get annoying real fast (on normal. Didn\'t want it to play it on "easy" since...well, I wanted at least some challange). And neither game doesn\'t hold have the same fun factor (all IMO of coarse) to Resident Evil even though I feel that Silent Hill (both games) does a hellalot better in terms of atmosphere (BTW, since I have no GC, can\'t comment on the latest Resident Evil and how its feel and atmosphere is like compared to Silent Hill). Still, I did find Silent Hill 2 enjoyable. And when I get the chance, hope to eventaully finish it.
-
I wish I had a ps2 right now. Sh2 is giving me more reason why I want one. The price is still a little out of my way though. :(
-
Played Sh2:rd(xbox) Thought the story was real bland got real annoying at times. The graphics were better than the original though:D
Not all that excited about 3

Not all that excited about 3
*coff*slightly improved graphics and only 5 minuets extra of material*coff**coff*
but IMO the PS2 graphics suit the game FAR better than the Cleaned up X version.

I am going to get SH2 and give it a whirl ,,,,,,the 1st one had 3 different endings maybe 2 is cool the price has dropped
maybe it is like the 1st one
-
The first Silent Hill was great and I was extremely excited about the second... Then it came out and it was craptastic! Seriously, Konami needs to learn that noise filters and fog does not equal a good game. Nor does annoying puzzles, I mean I enjoy some puzzles just as much as the next game. SH2 puzzles board on the obsecure level though. As for atmosphere wise, it\'ll have a lot to beat due to RE:Rebirth, as that game has oodles of atmosphere for once, espically in the later levels.

Which puzzles? I thought they were all very well thought out and logical enough to get through with a little thought (as in the original SH). I\'ve completed all the puzzle difficulties except for very easy... oo, I think I\'m up for a real challenge there.
I do have to admit that Silent Hill had a higher freak-out than SH2, could be cause this was the second visit to the town and a little more of the same, but SH2 very well pictured how Silent Hill works on a personal level, and I personally thought that\'s pretty damn interesting. I could just yap\'n\'yap about all the great little details in the story and town.

yay, the silent hill games are pure class:D

L-I-C, I don\'t know what you mean about Silent Hill 2..almost all the puzzles were pretty logical, and it was the only game ever that I could anazlize and that I thought about days after I completed it...it wasn\'t worse or better than SH1, just different...it was more depressing and thoughful, yet less shocking.
-
my fav puzzle in sh1, was the piano oe... that one really rocked
-
mmh, honestly, I only played the demo of Silent Hill 2 and I didn\'t really like it. First of all, it gave me the bloody creeps and secondly.. the control seemed very strange. I switched it between the Resident Evil and MGS style, but it still didn\'t quite seem right. I still might buy the game though.. if only for the story.
-
Ummmmmm...seven, this kind of game is supposed to give you the creeps. :p
-
LOL. yeah.. I know.. almost had a heartattack once while playing the demo. hehe..
I think I might look for a rental... from what I heard, it\'s worth it. ;)

Just DO NOT give up at the beggining! That\'s what SO many people do, and that\'s why many don\'t like Silent Hill2..the beginning IS awful...but it gets alot better, trust me:D
-
My personal experience with Silent Hill? Well, my friend and I started playing it, but it was one late night, and for some reason, we were playing it in the dark. We started playing it, and after being scared and creeped throughout most of the first few minitues, we found ourselves in the school. After which, those little white dudes in the school just freaked the living crap out of us and we never touched the game again (O_o) Maybe I\'ll look into playing Silent Hill 2 someday....
-
I haven\'t even played the first.... Don\'t hurt me please... Is it good?
-
The original is very good, do yourself a favour and get it. I\'d recommend you complete the games in chronological order.
My most memorable SH moment has got to be this one night when I was playin\' at like 1 a.m., in complete darkness, with earphones, and a horrible storm outside. I couldn\'t take more than about 15 minutes (I was in the sewers), then I had to switch on all the lights and watch some cartoons for a while... I was too freaked out to even go to the bathroom.
Loved it... ;)
-
Yes, the sewers were big time freaky...all those funny spider looking things:surprised
Seeing that most said that the 1st game was better, it is happening with lots of games currently, MGS, SH, GT3, etc. The graphics from PS1 to PS2 seems to be the main difference.
I have looked into it a bit further. When the 32 bit era overlaped the 16 bit era there was a huge jump. Graphics, 3D, gameplay and, one that most people overlook, sound. Now that the PS2 has taken over from the PS1 it seems that only graphics has changed. In most sequels all the other stuff has stayed the same. When playing THPS3 on PS1 and then on PS2 the only main difference is the graphics...same gameplay, same music.
That is the problem with SH2, the graphics are amazing but the music is still disc based (Little difference between the DVD and CD if there is no 5.1 built into the sound for the DVD). So we are practically playing another SH sequel that has better graphics and thats it. The 3D sound that was placed in SH2 is not the worst but also not the best. If you have a sound system that can convert sound to 3D (like in most mini-hifi\'s), Silent Hill 1 will give you that effect anyway.
This is just a thought and I might be totally wrong:( , but I seem to realise this more so because I own a 8 bit, 16 bit, 32 bit and now a 128 bit console. Go home and compare the 16 bit to your PS1 and then your PS1 to the PS2. You will see what I mean when it comes to the sound in the game and the different gamplay;)
I know this is way of the thread but it was coming to this for me.

I agree...but that doesn\'t stop Silent Hill2 to be an amazing experience if you let it....mind you, that might simply be because I fell in love with its thoughtful and twisted storyline, rather than the actually gameplay (which I agree was so last-generation)

yah dont be put off by the beginning of sh2. after a while, it gets very good!!! it very good game

Very good point about the leaps from 16 bit to 32 to 128. The differences in gameplay so far are subtle, 32 to 128 compared to 16 vs 32. One exception is Jak&Daxter where the look and feel draws players in and wasn\'t possible on the previous generation of consoles. Another example might be Deus Ex. While the graphics are a bit primitive by 2002 standards, I\'m relatively certain much of it\'s complexity along with the size of the levels could not have come anywhere near being produced last time around, even with much poorer graphics. Really, the subject deserves its own thread.
I was expecting the advanced graphics of SH2 would really multiply the creep factor but it seems to have turned out not to be the case. Which is for the best, before it was released I was honestly concerned some of the visuals went too far in the direction of permanently scaring otherwise healthy minds. Glad to hear I was probably just being a nervous old hen. Almost about time to find out for myself, since I think the original was/is one of the best of its kind.
-
A quick question: is Silent Hill all whacked out because of Alyssa\'s influence, or in SH2 is it a different reason?

Have to agree, J&D is an excellent game...I just wish it was a bit harder and more time consuming, mabe the sequel? I have not played Deus Ex yet, but if you reckon it is a good game then I should give it a try;) . It might be something like Project Eden, the graphics were definitly not up to par, but the game was one of the best I played. I played it from beginning to end with a friend helping out. You see, this is the first game on console, that I am aware of, where up to 4 players can play in the main game (not arenas or that kind of thing). Your friend goes one way and you go another...it feels like a war sim:p Now to me that is very original.
As for Silent hill 2, it is still an excellent game and if you have a slight interest then you should just go and buy it because there is no other survival horror game on the PS2 that even comes close (mabe until Fatal Frame is released?)

fatal frame rocked
i highly recommend picking that one up

I still haven\'t play SH2 although having the game for sometime..(too many great games on PS2!) but the graphics are frankly...horrid. It shows the worst shimmeries@jaggies I\'ve seen on a PS2 games. I sure hope they clean out that mess for SH3.

Currently Playing intensively:
Baldurs Gate:DA
ICO
Devil May Cry(yeah..yeah, I know I\'m late! But my time is spreading too thin between great games)!

Hmm... I thoght SH2 is one of the best looking games on the PS2. Looks dreamycreamy smooth on my TV... The jaggies only come into play when I switch off the noise filter, which I don\'t do :p
-
Look past the jaggies and see the artists expresssions that came to light in that game, there is nothing on par at the moment (Although, as I said, I have not played Fatal frame yet)
