FAULK, MICHAELS ABOARD FOR MADDEN NFL™ 2003
The top choice for football video gamers everywhere, Madden NFL™ 2003 gears up for a new season with a new face – and a new voice.

St. Louis Rams running back Marshall Faulk will be featured on the cover of this year’s title after signing as the spokesperson for Madden NFL 2003, which ships in August. The Rams’ star runner also had a hand in the game design, thanks to a session with John Madden and the game producers. Faulk has set several NFL records over the last few years and is happy to add his turn as an EA SPORTS™ cover athlete to his list of accomplishments.

“You can be on a lot of games, but when you get to be on Madden NFL Football, it says a lot about your play because John Madden knows the players and this is the game to be on,” Faulk said. “I have been playing Madden Football since 1991 and have been hoping that someday it would be my turn to be on the cover. John has a lot of input to who is on the game and I am glad that he chose me.”

While Faulk will grace the game’s cover, the smooth voice of veteran play-by-play announcer Al Michaels will call the action along with Madden himself. Michaels’ announcing experience ranges from coverage of professional baseball and the Olympic Games to his long-time position as the main voice of the NFL’s Monday Night Football on ABC, where he’ll be teamed with Madden beginning this fall.

The addition of Faulk and Michaels to the game, combined with the unparalleled depth, industry-standard gameplay and graphics, and some new additions and options, figures to keep Madden NFL 2003 at the top of the list of all sporting titles. i thought for 1 second that maybe they got rid of madden, and left summerall.

Al Michael\'s is great.  You guys may laugh at me, but by far the most enjoyable commentators to me are the ESPN Sunday night guys.  They have fun.  They rag on the teams.  They really say what they think.  I like that.

I\'m not buying another football game until it\'s online playable.  I want to smack Luke\'s ass as I run by for my 5th touchdown.  WOO HOO!!!

You have a link to back this up? Cause I remember posting a thread about Madden 2003 NOT being on-line a few months ago.

However, this would be great news if indeed they have changed their minds.

EA SPORTS\' Best-Selling John Madden Football Heads to the Internet

Other Blockbuster Properties to Follow

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 15, 2002--Electronic Arts (Nasdaq:ERTS - News), the world\'s leading video game software publisher, today announced that it will bring Madden NFL™ 2003 to the PlayStation® 2 computer entertainment system for online play. EA\'s worldwide studios also have plans for additional EA SPORTS™ and EA GAMES™ franchises that will take full advantage of the PlayStation 2 console\'s online capabilities.

The online features of Madden NFL Football 2003 for the PlayStation 2 console will debut at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles next week. A special demonstration of the game will be presented at a press conference sponsored by Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) Tuesday, May 21 at 8:00 a.m. PST.

"We are very excited to be partnering with Sony Computer Entertainment of America to bring Madden NFL Football and other popular EA franchises online through the PlayStation 2," said EA Chairman and CEO Larry Probst. "We believe that console-based online play is in its infancy but will grow in the next several years. Early applications on the PlayStation 2 offer a great experience for consumers and a chance for developers to find out what gamers like about online play. We feel confident about the business model presented by SCEA and their choice of an open technology infrastructure for providers and consumers."

"We are thrilled to have Electronic Arts announce online support for PlayStation 2 as we firmly believe that well-known franchises are key to bringing the console gamer online," said Andrew House, senior vice president, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "Our goal is to help lead the PlayStation 2 customer base online with an experience that is consumer friendly and content driven, requiring little or no additional investment. In keeping with the open environment of the Internet, our approach to PlayStation 2 connectivity will encourage the creative community to drive and determine content offerings, as well manage its own customer relationships and distribution models. With EA on board we are one step closer to making this a reality."

Madden NFL 2003 for the PlayStation 2 console will allow gamers to find and challenge opponents anywhere on the Internet, chat with friends and other football fans and download up-to-the-minute player statistics and trades, team rosters and information on injuries and position changes.

Sweet. I love Madden, but i hate Summeral, he\'s too boring. Now about this online stuff. What do i have to buy to get my PS2 to play online? And does it matter what kind of internet i have? I haven\'t really looked into this stuff yet, so i figured i\'d ask.

I agree completely.  I never really liked Madden.  He pointed out the obvious so often...not the most fun commentator.

Then again, this is coming from a guy who swears Bill Walton is the greatest commentator ever for any sport...

As yet,
madden 2003 has not yet come to agreements with nintendo or microsoft about online play

so at the moment, only PS2 will have online play for madden 2003.

a question:  Would you already need a fast connection or will the online PS2 hardware, what ever that is, have a reasonbly fast modem for the PS2?  I dont have a highspeed modem or connection.  What will i have to by to play madden online?

I forgot which NFL series it was (perhaps NFL2k1) but what really annoyed me about the commentating was things like "xxxx plays tennis with the kids on his free times." So basically, all the players end up playing tennis with their kids on their free time...  Well that\'s just great.
