Title: Napster may file Chapter 11, too bad so sad.
Post by: videoholic on May 14, 2002, 12:32:57 PM
As if any of you use Napster when thanks to Gnutella there is no stopping the transfer of music, The CEO stepped down and they may file Chapter 11.

Oh well

Gnutella pissed me off. I don\'t know why. Seemed like very few downloads ever workd, and downloading whole albums was a *****.

WinMX and Direct Connect are my programs of choice now.

I use WinMX as well, but doesn\'t that just use Gnutella?  Just like Kazaa, etc....

lol.  kazaa lite is the best ive found.  NO SPYWARE!! WOO!!  or you can get a spyware killer from cnet so you can use the regular kazaa w/o getting spied on.

Kazaa has too much child pornography, how I know that, even I don\'t know. I still use it though.

Anyone know where I can download fanta?

limewire.  And for those of you who don\'t want the pr0n there is a filter for that as well as file extensions.  I use the version for Linux although I hear the Win32 version has some spyware.  Audiogalaxy is good for mp3s but just go to the gnutella forum and look for clients.

If I want to easily download I low quality song I go to Kazaa, if I want a high quality song that rarely works I go to WINMX.  It always seems like downloads rarely work for me on WINMX, it takes like 20 different songs just to get one that works.
Title: BLUBSTER
Post by: Gollum on May 14, 2002, 08:57:28 PM
Blubster is the new client that is performing.  Their good when there new, no filtering, no spyware, \'quite\' alot of music, mainly american (that pisses me off).

BLUBSTER is fast as well.

its the ****!

Some friends and I have gotten into some heated discussions based on the downloading of music and making copies to sell and so on and so forth. I say death to all of these download sites. I hate the fact that people can go online and download music games, and even movies. It makes the stuff more and more expensive for people like myself that will go out and buy the music and movies, even games (as if you didn’t know that already). I have no problem if your paying for the stuff you download, that way it doesn’t affect me (the consumer) as much. But if you are downloading any games music or movies, you’re pirating. Especially if you sell or give copies of the stuff to your friends or whoever for that matter.

Don’t flame me for having this opinion. I just stand behind my opinions and have found that this one has often started some pretty ugly discussions.

WinMX sux ass, it rarely searches right, then if you do get something that shows up, you gotta search through 80 different files to find something.

You aren\'t paying anything extra because people download songs.  Heck, they probably just say that to justify there hideous costs for CDs.

I aslo agree that people should not make copies to sell.  That is highly illegal, but I\'m all for trading.  I wouldn\'t buy the CD anyway so they aren\'t losing a sale from me.  Maybe if they made CDs about 5 bucks a piece I would buy, but it\'s ridiculous what they charge.

I still say that when any industry looses money (like the video game industry) due to pirating it inadvertently will cost us the consumer a little extra somewhere. The corporate guys at any company aren’t going to take a pay cut so they up the price of their products along with the typical increases due to inflation.

Are there any sites that allow you to pay to have them put a cd together for you with your favorite songs on it?

Chicken or egg?

High CD prices or piracy?

I dont\' care.  I usually buy one worth buying, but I use limewire to investigate the other songs on the album first.

The recording industry brought this on themselves by continuing to cheat their own customers with absurdly high audio CD prices long after the format was well adopted and manufacturing costs hit bottom.  If complete CDs cost $6, and you could download a song for $.49, the record companies would make the same profit on increased volume, and there would be no music piracy.  Of course lowering prices is heresy to the american corporation, so instead they decide to pour their resources into lawsuits against the pirates.  This will not continue forever.

I here ya there man! I have to pay 18 friggin’ bucks just to get some of the CD’s that my wife and I like. I say that as soon as the prices come down they will make a killing in sales. It is simply outrageous!.

I mainly DL songs for a preview, or if i dont particularly like an artist, but like 1 song. At the sametime, I have no problem with DL\'ing a complete album or an OS, or pc game..etc.

HIking the prices b/c of privacy??? That is a poor excuse made up by company execs. to increase profit. Do you have any idea how much profit everyone see\'s per cd? Its something crazy like $9-11. I know games and software have to have similar profit margins as well.

They should also thank some of these so called pirates, like the ones who are on 56k or worse(god forbid)..who DL a song and love it..so they go out and buy the album b/c they dont want to spend all of thaat time DL\'ing multiple songs.

As for ppl who DL stuff but look down upon selling that stuff, an illegal activity is an illegal activity, just b/c bootlegging the stuff carries a stiffer penalty doesnt make it any worse than just "downloading"
