I have a film from a friend\'s graduation on CD. The file on it is a .MPG file, and Windows Media Player won\'t play it. The error message I get is, "No combination of filters could be found to render the stream"
Help me here.

Is it something your friend encoded himself?
Ask him what program he used and what codecs. Make sure you have DivX installed on your machine. (DivX is a codec)
-
Can you hook me up with a link for DivX?
EDIT: Nevermind I found it. Can I play the file through it?
-
It\'s a codec, just download it, install it and try the file.
-
I downloaded DivX 5 and it seems like a media player.
EDIT: Nevermind, it was a bundle so the player and codec were included. I\'m gonna test it out now, (drumroll)...
EDIT2: Damn it doesn\'t work. I\'m gonna talk to my friend.

Interesting... After about a 20 minute load, one of the three CDs (Which make up the graduation), had a different error. "A device attached to the system is not functioning. "
This is ****ed up right here.

You just need to find out what codec he used to encode the thing. He may have used an off style of compression that you don\'t have and isn\'t the norm.
-
Ok, I\'ll talk to him tomorrow...
Even more info I should let you guys in on is that it really isn\'t a graduation if you get my drift, piracy is so hard to talk about here... *wink* *wink* *wink*
(Please don\'t close this. I need help)
-
so.... tempted.....

First off, DivX is an AVI format. Not MPG.
Second, it could be as simple as a bad quality disc, and it\'s getting read errors/corruptions when it tries to play a standard file. Try copying it to your harddrive.
The only even remotely used codec for MPG that doesn\'t come standard with the new version of Mplayer - you download that... oh, and manually use mplayer2.exe, it is in the same dir as mplayer.exe. It\'s the old interface (faster, more detailed control options) for mediaplayer, but updated with each version, so it uses modern codecs - is Angel Potion (bah, bad grammer, to tired to fix). It\'s not a great codec but some people still use it. Do a google search for the codec and you\'ll find it.

Ok, FX... It\'s almost near my naptime but I\'m determined to fix this....
I\'ll tell you results later...
EDIT1: Ok, first things first, I\'m copying to my hard-drive... as suspected it\'s gonna take up lots of space but I can easily take it off when I\'m not watching it...
EDIT2: Interesting... says it can\'t copy due to it not being able to read from source (or something of that nature). This ****ing blows considering it took 30 minutes to tell me this.... ugh... Time to try and use mplayer2.exe....
EDIT3: Used the old Windows Player (mplayer2.exe), still same problem... I\'m gonna get that codec you listed now..

If you can\'t copy the file then you have a screwed up disc. You may need to get a new disc of porn from your buddy.
-
Problem solved. I talked to him today at school and I need WinDVD to play it through. I just downloaded and its working like gold.
Vid, its better than porn.
