Tonight in Sac we had yet another wreck due to "street racers" causing two to go to the hospital with critical injuries. Now I put the word street racer in quotes because I\'m refering to the wanna be street racers, who are usually young teenagers who just got their licence, and have been given a mildly powerfull car from their parents. These kids don\'t know their cars, and don\'t know how to race. They race on public streets, where there are multiple side streets. Inevidably they will wreck, hurting themselves and inocent bistanderds. While doing so, they give the real street racers a bad name.
By real street racer I mean those people who take into consideration the safety and well beings of others, and in doing so the race on closed industrial roads, so that the only ones in danger are the racers (hopefully). In addition, they know their cars, and are in actual control of them, and have respect for their high powered vehicles.
I myself have been streetracing for quite awhile, but the races are well organized events, and during these events we always close off the street, and usually have atleast a fire extinguisher on hand at all times. We have never had a wreck, mostly due to the fact we don\'t do stupid things, and relize our limitations.
Unfortunetly these wanna-be\'s are ruining it for every true racer out there.

Street racers are wankers. Sure, I love cars to death, but speed should remain on the race track and not on roads. Thats how innocent people get hurt.
Street racers have this thing were they need to prove that there car is better then someone elses. Its like when your at a red light, and the person next to you revs their engine, to signal a drag. Its pathetic, specially when there in a crappy car.

I got challenged at a light by an old tempo once, and by a beat up Gremlin, needless to say I didn\'t do much other than laugh.
-
The mature side of me wants to say keep it on the track. Street racing is just plain stupid.
But the fun side of me feels all giddy like a little school girl when the Honda Civic at the red light wants to have a go. *teeheeheehee*
The real skill & enthusiasts are found on the track. People who are truly into auto-tuning and performance will gather together to share their knowledge and meet others who are as passionate about cars as they are, not seek out the teenager who just put exhaust on his econo-mobile.

street racers have no respect for their lives or the lives of others thus they suck
-
No respect for their cars? You must only see 25% of the people. The other 75% put good money into their cars, and try to keep them in top shape. It\'s only the other 25% that give street racers a bad name.
-
All street racers give themselves a bad name, you are putting people in danger other than yourselves so you suck.

I wish the local tracks would have a half price night during the week or something, that way these kids could afford to go to the track and race instead of the street.

when at least each mod is $200 and up...they can afford it. All places dont have a track available without having ot drive 2-3 hours. Alot of tracks are also overcrowded and people dont want to pay 20-35 bux just to get a run or 2 in. Not saying that is the problem, but it is certainly one of em. I think law enforcement officials should spent the money they spend trying to crack down on these guys..on a racing venue. They would even make their money back.
ANother thing I always see that no one evr compares....
What about the speeders and people who just plain cannot drive. They aren\'t harassed but yet are just as dangerous. As someone stated earlier..not all street racing is dangerous, one of the places I frequent here, there has never been a fatality let alone an accident. On the other hand, another place I used to go, I have seen 3 accidents in one night!!!!
