This is sad... the bold part...
Reported by Japanese journal site Mainichi Interactive, Square has confirmed on the 18th that a number of "Final Fantasy XI" packages have been shipped with useless registration codes.
Each retail copy of "Final Fantasy XI" comes packaged with a unique user registration code, required when signing up for the online services. Consumers who picked up a package with a disfunctional registration code will not be able to receive any of Square\'s PlayOnline services, which includes playing Final Fantasy XI itself.
Square also confirmed that there are cases in which the registration code will become useless if the registration process halts, due to a server failure or a connection error.
Quoted by Square, issues regarding registration codes will be "handled case by case, since [we] cannot find the cause [of the problem], and there are times when it may be due to typing errors".
In related news, Square now has a toll-free hotline for user support on issues regarding Final Fantasy XI. The number is (0120) 540-882.
Short Comment- Things must really be tense at Square. As one customer wrote about his experience-- he waited on Square\'s support hotline for a long time, only to be surprised by a crying support center girl on the other side of the phone when he finally got through. - "Madman" Henry Moriarty
Poor girl probably got yelled at so much she just broke down and cried... it\'s not even her fault.
Just imagine if they did a worldwide release, like some people wanted... or at least a US launch as well... their problems would be huge...
I just hope they get all this stuff fixed soon. No more crying support girls. :(

Geez that is awfull... :(
-
same thing happened to blizzard with its Diablo 2 servers
no suprising to see a company shortchange the high demand
im sure they didnt expect an addon to actually be succesfull, pfffft
-
Damn that is awful!!!
where did u hear that news about blizzard???
-
Uh, Well anyone who bought d2 when it was released knows this.
-
i havent got it , does that simplify things :P
but i havent always been a fan of diablo, the first one put me off and the repedivness gets to me!!!

Way to go, Square! It\'s nice to know you guys are so diligent when it comes to launching such a flagship title into the public\'s hands.
FFXI didn\'t deserve to sell out.
-
yeah, blizzards "realm" servers got crushed for weeks before they leveled it out

It\'s an unfortunate truth about MMO games that we are all going to accept at some point. Companies ALWAYS go out and buy the least number of (expensive) servers that they think they can get by with... After all, they\'ll save on initial cost and maintenance that way. Unfortunately, they all seem to get it wrong, and end up spending a lot more in the first two weeks than they want. Diablo II, Everquest, Dark Ages of Camelot, FFXI. It\'s a predictable pattern that isn\'t changing.

And these are the people you\'re all trusting to keep cheaters off of the FFXI servers? LOL. I\'m just waiting for someone to figure out a NOL code for FFXI. Not to turn you into a FFXI NPC, but a look-a-like of NOL from PSO so that pysed off cheaters who don\'t have anyone to victimize anymore can give PS2 owners a taste of what they\'ve been dishing out on the Dreamcast.
In case you didn\'t know, the wheels are already in motion....

There is a HUGE difference between FFXI and PSO... FFXI stores characters server side, not on the PS2 HDD. There will be as much cheating in FFXI as there is in any PC MMORPG like EQ or DAOC...

This is a onesided debate. The numbers for the recall are small compared to the hole. I do find it funny that they say that it could be the customers fault (typing errors).
This reminds me of the poeple who complaned about the N64 controller. They siad that they were fialing a law suit because the controller was to big and "alot of people" were getting carpel tunnel in there hands. It was in the magazines and in almost every online source. 32 poeple filed the clame. 112 poeple in total by the time it was settled out of court.
I am sorry I didn\'t put the FFXI numbers to memory. They were so unimportant that I assumed as a few poeple here assumed. I did not espect a perfect launch and that they would get over this. I will get the numbers and post it here as soon as I can find them agian.
FInal Fantasy XI did sell well.

Take a company that has zero online experience and put possibly the biggest online game ever in their hands. = disaster
