80USD! Thats about €100!
PS2 Hard Drive Priced?
Those sneaky real journalists may have uncovered the HDD\'s US price point.
May 17, 2002 - The PlayStation 2 hard drive will be priced at approximately $80 when it launches, according to a report today by the San Jose Mercury-News. The Silicon Valley newspaper, a noted source of tech news, dropped the figure amid a general story covering the online strategies of all three major console makers.
SCEA has long since released details on the PlayStation 2 network adapter -- it will hit shelves in August for $39.99 -- but the hard drive has remained an unknown quantity. When contacted for comment on the story, SCEA representatives reiterated that no official information has been released regarding the price or release date of the hard drive.
An $80 price point for the American HDD would be substantially cheaper than its Japanese counterpart, which was made available in limited quantities for the equivalent of about $150. However the details actually shake out, look forward to more details on Sony\'s peripherals and online plans for PlayStation 2 at E3 next week.
:bounce: :bounce:
Its like I said.. I said the price would be 80-100USD!! :fro:

what is the HDD for anyway - apart from playing music from and saving games?
-
You\'ll (supposedly) be able to download game updates and movies/move previews.
-
Now we just need it in 2002.
-
bah, HD = gimmick
the xbox proved that
-
I think is a good price. Has the size of the HD been confirm?
I think Sony will make a move and offert a bundle containing a PS2 with Network adapter and Hard drive for $299

I\'m just hoping some sort of FFXI HDD package deal will be announced.
You know they\'ll have some sort of game+HDD package deal, you\'re gonna get something for free when you buy that thing.

Something without Samwise in it?

100 pound, thats like over 140$ (rough guess) U.S.. Way to much money for me and I doubt it will get very many buyers. The fact that you have to pay already just to play FFXI and now this. I don\'t see FFXI doing very well at all.
-
ehhe, is that why they sold what, 400,000 units instantly in japan?
the ps2 HDD will be a blazing success elsewhere
-
Bunch of loonies they are (damn Yoda). Just because Japanese gamers like it doesn\'t mean other places will. Personally I would rather go out and get a GC for about the same price.
-
then do so, you will be in the minority

Naw I don\'t think so. Japanese gamers would be more likely to get it than most, atleast I would think so.

Bozco.. maybe its time you learned.. in this day and age, it doesnt really matter what you think
:)

About 1/3 what a usual FF titles launches...the initial hype will be gone and now they have to keep those 400,000+ people.

I take it you\'re joking...RPG\'s are not as popular in the US or UK as they are in Japan. Add to that an Add-on and pay per month (or is it per play?)...
What else besides FFXI will attract gamers to this Add-on?
-
any game that will take advantage of it
speak in numbers, thier\'s 30 million + PS2\'s out there
even if only 20% go for it, thats 6 million HHD\'s *gulp*
MJPS, i should have said "so far", the HDD in a console is a gimmick
sure one xbox game actually take use of loading levels into secondary memory [halo], and if you wait 20 minutes, you can rip a music cd onto it for about 3-4 games that actually let you use that feature
-
Once again my predicting capabilities prove true. Price Drop on games.

I know what I look like, I just wasn\'t all there. Wait I thought Euro was worth more than U.S. dollar. Well if its that cheap maybe it will do good then.
