Dodge it Max Pa.. I mean Mark!
"When someone plays The Getaway, the lines between cinema and games are going to be blurred," continues McNamara, "we are big fans of movies like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, and we wanted to create a game that was representative of that world. We wanted to have the crime, the attitude, and above all, the vibe of underground crime in London."
Cool! :D

WOW - those screens are incredible. I can\'t bear to think how this game looks in motion... and if it\'s at 60 fps.. :bounce:
-
could they use any LESS polys in those cars? sheesh

Well, graphically the game doesn\'t look as stunning as they
led us to believe at the announcement of this game. It looks
not as good as the newest games like Ratchet & Clank, but
it is still very good with a freeroaming 3D world and 60 fp/s.
I am still very anxious for this game, only if it were for the
gameplayy and it\'s cinematic experience ( No, not in a MGS2
style way !)
-
textures arent all that great.. but considering.. i think its great
best part about the game.. the drivers are on the right side of the car.. and the cars drive on the correct side of the road :)
i hope it plays really well.. it could truely be a great game if they pull it off..

You mean they drive on the wrong side of the road and the wrong side of the car!!!;) ;) ;) ;)

Its not bad, but I agree with \'mm\'.

Yeah, if that was London the streets would be packed with peds!
-
Yeah I can only see 2 in one of the pics... . .
-
Those textures look so flat and bland!! Like MSR or PG...it looks decent but nowhere near what was shown previously...
sounds like fun though...
-
Its looking good, very similar to those first pics they released, the ones that caused all the huff cause they were too good.
The texture of the guys face looks really good, its fighting game material.
Hope you can steal exotic cars too like Vipers etc.

Whao ! those movies are incredible ! Static
screenshots really don\'t do this game any
justice ;) !
I have to get my hands on this game NOW !
-
That game looks awesome. I\'m also happy to see that there\'s real cars in it. The car physics sound cool too. Man, i can\'t wait for this game. But still, where are the people? In GTA3 i had fun running the people over. Oh well, it won\'t make that much of a difference.
-
Now those are real in-game shots. Anyway, the game looks brilliant. And looks that it will have lots of commons things with Max Payne... won\'t it?
-
Are there any hands-on impressions?
I dont like judging games by just looking at them.

Like MSR? you gotta be joking! That one actually made me laugh.
Anyone got the first screens released from this game? The ones that later were confirmed to be CG ones of what it would look like? If so please post so we could do a comparison.
Personally, it doesn\'t look as good but it\'s damn close if you ask me, though I haven\'t seen the first shots in a long time.
-
The fact that Ginko is even comparing this game to a racer as in PG or MSR already says quite a lot about the graphics. PG and MSR are Racers and they have a lot less going on in-game than a game like GTA3 or this one. Proves enough how impressive this game really looks. ;)
-
I think it looks cool. ( from the vids I saw ) I will realy be intereested in this game. they could brush up the textures though, like Ginko said, Its soo, flat and plain. Although the game does look and sound very interesting. Definatly will check this game out.

I\'m not sure if anyone else checks out anything else on PSX2Central than the forums (althoughthis was posted here too), but here\'s a little clip from Aaron\'s day 1 report; 10:00: Went and played The Getaway on a couch that lit up on a screen suspended from the ceiling. Here’s the deal – the game’s a mess. Yes it can be cleaned up a lot before release, but don’t get your hopes up. There were tons of bugs, the framerate was bad, and the controls left a lot to be desired.
Sounds kinda just like I imagined it would turn out... :p

Why do I get the impression you have something against this
game ? :o
-
Someone called Aaron from E3 played this game hands on and had nothing good to say about it.
He said dont get your hopes too high.

I\'ve got nothing against the game, it\'s just one of those classic "I have a bad feeling about this" -cases. I\'ve been too disappointed in many games in the recent past and I\'m getting kinda cynical, sceptical, pessimistic and whatnot over "big" games like this... just a phase I think, I\'ll get over it :p

Then this game might be your cure. I think it will turn out that
good that you\'ll be so happily surprised you\'ll lose your sceptical phase ! ;)
But serious. I\'ve read some real positive hands on impressions from game press.
-
That\'s one possible scenario, yes.
Or :
I\'ll hate it like no other product of the human race (yes, including boy bands and their ilk), go mental and doom all of humanity into a premature purgatory from one swing of my fiery ©Staff of Doom (it\'s a wonder what you can find at flea markets).
There\'s so much games coming that (I hope) will rock, that I\'m quite happy avoiding miniscule titles like this... seemed interesting 2 years back, now... blaah, bring on DMC2, SH3 and SC2! :D
-
I\'ve been waiting for 2 years...hope it will be a great game...
...downloading the movies...
very nice!

IGN interview:
IGN: Besides being built around the mission concepts that you came up, is there anything else that you think influenced the story -- books, or movies?
MacNamara: Well, loads of movies and books as well, but the original kind of movies that we looked at for feel more than anything was Get Carter, you know, with Michael Caine. And then Mona Lisa, and obviously the Lock, Stock series. A lot of London gangster movies, there was a kind of rush on them for a while. Face, that was another good one, Robert Carlisle and Ray Winston. We wanted to get that kind of characterization.
IGN: When I first saw it, a long while back, Charlie\'s character reminded me of Michael Caine in Mona Lisa...
MacNamara: Yeah, very much so. And at the end, there\'s a scene in which it\'s very much like the end of Mona Lisa, where Charlie\'s in a situation at the end, and Bob Hoskins, he doesn\'t say anything, but you see about 20 emotions go over his face because he\'s no longer in control of the situation. It\'s a great piece of acting. There\'s moments from all those that we lifted. And there\'s especially that way that Michael Caine snaps at people in that movie, where he\'s charming and then goes and snaps at him.
IGN: And Bob Hoskins, too, in The Long Good Friday.
MacNamara: Yeah, everybody watches that one downstairs.
IGN: You mentioned the importance of gloves in the motion capture, is that so you can get finger animations?
MacNamara: Yeah, so when you see that cutscene where Eyebrows is talking to Harry in the back of the car he puts his fingers on the steering wheel and his fingers wrap around it. And when people pick up cigars and stuff. A lot of people\'s expressions are with their hands.
IGN: As for car modeling, all the cars are licensed?
MacNamara: Yeah, we\'ve approached all of the manufacturers for cars in the game. The only one who\'s actually said no is Skoda, a European manufacturer. They said they just didn\'t want to be in a game where people could break the speed limit. I don\'t know which games you can\'t break the speed limit in, but everyone else we\'ve approached so far has been okay. We\'ve told them that they roll over and get damaged and all that kind of stuff. We\'ve approached them on the basis that it\'s like a film and they\'re cars that are there in London when you drive around. It\'s not about one particular car, and it\'s not a racing game per se, either.
IGN: Do you know how many makes total you have, manufacturers?
MacNamara: Off my head, at least 30. Like with Ford we\'ve got the Ford Capri, a Ford Transit van, a Ford Fiesta, the Focus as well. General Motors has got a few different ones there.
IGN: So you\'ve got lots of specifically British cars.
MacNamara: Yeah, well, whatever you could find out on the street. There\'ll be Peugeots, there\'ll be Citroens, there\'s a few Japanese cars as well. The only straight-out American car we have is a Chrysler Voyager. Oh, and a Cherokee.
