no date for the PS2 version but here is the details
The rumors are true. Hideo Kojima and his team of designers at Konami Computer Entertainment of Japan are hard at work on a follow-up to last year\'s critically acclaimed and wildly successful
Metal Gear Solid 2 for the Xbox, and it\'s not Metal Gear Solid X. Called Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance, the game will be shown at E3, almost two years to the day since Sons of Liberty was unveiled, and its name is telling.
Like the Japanese release of Integral for the original Metal Gear Solid, Substance will build on the Metal Gear Solid 2 experience by adding literally hundreds of new VR missions and noteworthy bonus material.
But there\'s more to Substance than just a series of new mini-missions. Among other things, Substance will remedy Kojima\'s controversial introduction of Raiden by letting you assume the role of Solid Snake throughout the entire course of Metal Gear Solid 2.
The game will also let you play as several other characters, including Pliskin and the cyborg ninja. There are even five new episodes completely unrelated to Sons of Liberty that will take you on entirely new adventures with Solid Snake.
Substance is so big, in fact, it\'ll take up an entire double-density DVD disk when it releases for Microsoft\'s console this November. PlayStation 2 and PC fans shouldn\'t be disheartened, however, as Konami is concurrently developing Substance for those other platforms as well.

muah
I\'m glad I didn\'t buy MGS2 now.
why do u say that, u do realise that when MGS2 was announced it took nearly 2 years for it to be released.
i doubt the new MGS will be released any time soon.

Personally I think MGS2 was a waste, buying it for $50. If I would buy it right now, I\'d go out and buy it used... it\'s not worth $50, IMO. Very few games released now a days are. They\'re too short, and they have little to no replay value. Why waste $50 on them, only to never play them again... it\'s pretty pointless, if you ask me.
I try to buy all my games used. But with Sony\'s new recommended price of $39.99 who knows, I might buy new games again.

Play as the Ninja and Snake? Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance is as good as mine. Along with GTA: Vice City.:D

bt how can i play as snake and pliskin???? sounds good though, but why didnt they put all of this in the originl one... also will this be a add on like intergrlly???

Why would Raiden be on the Tanker? That makes no sense...
-
Raiden = Jar Jar Binks < Solid Snake

WOW this could be very intresting, i really wish i could have played as snake the whole way through metal gear.
But i can\'t wait to see what they can do with the xbox hardware, hopefully they will change the graphics engine to add better textures and things like that.
But i can\'t wait to see what the other bits are that they are adding, hopefully we will get to fight Arsenal at the end this time(BUT AS SNAKE!!)

I wonder what happened to the x box exclusive MGS2 X?
Looks like its just getting a port now. :D
-
I was just thinking of something when I was looking at the preview pics of Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance. Anyway, what I was thinking of was this...
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!!!:
At the end of the game, when you are playing as Raiden, and he\'s naked, they insinuate that the entire thing was set up, and that everything was a test to produce another Solid Snake. (Not physically, but you know what I mean.) ;) What I\'m getting at is this; What if the game we\'ve been playing isn\'t how the story went? What if their roles were reversed in the original game? We\'d all be seeing what really happened, but through the wrong eyes, so to speak. :surprised: That would be a very cool twist. That would also explain the role-reversal that they show in those pics, like how Raiden is in every scene that we used Snake in, and so on. Sorry if I ruined anything by posting this.

So your saying in this version snake will appear nude?

So, you\'re saying that either we were NOT actually playing Solid Snake in MGS1 ; thus concluding that MGS1 was a simulation itself all the time and that Solid Snake is a made up character by the Patriots who are in fact in our reality just Hideo Kojima and his staff ? (So the real player character in MGS1 was some rookie like Raiden playing the Solid Snake VR character)
Or... , you\'re saying that when the Big Shell level commenced in MGS2, that somehow they brainwashed the real Solid Snake and that they led him to believe he\'s the rookie Raiden ? Now that would be an awesome twist - kinda like in the Matrix. I guess then, that in MGS3 he "awakens" from that brainwash and takes on the Patriots/Matrix. The only downside to all this is that we\'ll have to pay the full whack again for that game.
The stuff in MGS2 that makes me think that the 2nd theory is true, is when "Campbell" tells Raiden he\'s gonna change his codename to Raiden and that Raiden objects at first ; "What\'s wrong with Snake ? I feel like some legendary mercanary..."
Then "Campbell" tells him the real Solid Snake is dead which would be false according to the 2nd theory.
But there\'s one thing that could dismiss the 2nd theory ; why wouldn\'t "they" (whoever did brainwash Snake) didn\'t kill him then ? Then the must have thought that his chances as "Raiden" would make him fail - why then not kill him, then his chances would be zero...

It looks cool but I won\'t buy it immediatly.

I too won\'t buy this game right away. Given the fact that I currently own the previous version. Not dissappointed on my previous purchase (MGS2 is a great game). Just wish this was the previous version before.
I might buy it once this version is in the bargin bin, or Greatest Hits.
