Sorry just got PS2 past week and wondering about its online capabilities and so on. See some threads bout online games but what is the deal right now. Thanks

The PlayStation 2 Network Adapter will be coming out on 8/27/2002 and retail for $39.99
. The Adapter will come bundled with a startup kit which will include game demos and a coupon for Twisted Metal: Black Online.

the HDD isnt priced yet, my guess it 80-100$ USD
but i keep reading info that we "might" be able to use any HDD that we may have lying around

You know it would be nice if they let you trade in originals for online version and pay like extra 10 bucks or whatever. That would be the right thing to do I think. Or at least make the online version cheap and only allow online gaming and practice, no first player mode, endings, story..etc.

I\'m 70% sure that the new TMB online disk will be $20. (Read it somewhere)
The 39.99 adaptor comes with a coupon for TMB online.

I just dont like blowing my money and 80-100 bucks in addition to an already 200 dollar console is kinda hefty (plus games, adapter, controller...). And the casual gamer has spoken...Let\'s see, 40$ for the adapter, 80-100$ for the HD, plus 20$ a month (guesstimate as to what your ISP cost), and a game.

Last time I checked $80US for a half decent 40 gig Harddrive for a PC would be considered cheap (Well at least here in Australia). For bottom of the range 40 gig 5400rpm $140Aus (around $70US).

I\'m just saying I am buying a console to give something PC cant offer. This hard drive BS has got to go. You know I\'m actually happy for XBox being there so that maybe it can force Sony to drop its price on accessories some more.
Im happy for console online gaming and looking forward to it, but an extra 200 bucks to spend on it is just not going to fly with me and most ppl that own PS2. I might end up selling PS2 and getting GC instead.

no one is forcing you to buy the harddrive.. but if you want to play MMORPG games, such as Final Fantasy XI you will need it..
no other type of game will require it (at least not in the immediate future), so you can play TM: Online, TimeSplitters 2, Socom, Madden 2003, Resident Evil Online and many many other games for just the $40 for the adapter..

Why do you exagerate the HDD\'s price? Arent you already spending $15 for an ISP? I cant believe you even added a PS2 game in that. Do you expect to play that free online x box game that they will give you forever?
Simple fact is pay once with Sony and its free after that. I cant believe people are complaining about paying the ISP. If it was x box it would be $15 plus $10.

I just spent about 400 on PS2, mem card and 4 games. I still need to buy an extra memory card and a controller and I think that spending more on HDD and Adapter should be minimal. 80-100 bucks on a harddrive is just too much. I heard its like a 40GB too and seems a bit excessive. The hardrive should definitely come with a game.
It has nothing to do with being cheap but just spending your money wisely. Obviosly half of you are spoiled kids so you cannot relate. As much as I love PS2, if these online costs get too high, goodbye PS2. I seriously doubt I would ever get an Xbox, but GC is a definite possibility if they can refrain from charging so much for all these necessary accessories.

Are you a complete asshole? Final Fantasy Online requires a hard drive. That is a must have if you plan to get the best out of PS2 online.

I would get GC just because they have other games that PS2 will never have and because it is cheaper. If I cant deal with the ridiculous amounts that Sony will charge to play its best online games, I might as well sell it and get GC which costs less and has other strengths. It\'s pretty obvious that the HDD will become a must have as console online gaming progresses.

so you only bought your PS2 for FFXI?? your still going to be missing out ona ll the other great online PS2 titles that dont require the HDD and the regular off-line titles
either way you dont get to play FFXI
and not all games will require the HDD, only a very select few.. very

I just apid off my BBA and Tekken 4 Pre-order.......paid the before price drop for the BBA due to Software ETC not knowing the Sony dropped the price of it to 39.99 at E3 (Should have found a press release on it on-line and showed them).....So I will get some cash back!

See I spend my money on drinks and every so often to "party". You are obviously a serious drug addict that needs help. My goal going out is to have fun and not to spend money, in fact I try to make the best of my money. And I go to East Side, Midtown, every so often to Upper East. Unlike you, I dont spend anything on hookers. My idea of a night out is quite different from yours.

Yeah, so anyways, the online capabilities of the PS2 are still almost entirely in the air, especially for the U.S. Rumor has it that they might not release the HDD there, and that Square will somehow make it so that it wont require the HDD to play. If that\'s the case, all you have to pay for is your ISP, which you probably already have, the game itself, and for Square games, a PlayOnline fee. Oh yeah, and the BroadBand Adapter, which I believe is 29? or 39? somethin like that. So its not all that much..
And I personally really don\'t like pot for myself, but I really don\'t care if anyone else does it or not.. It really doesn\'t make much of a difference these days. Everyone has their opinions, everyone has their ways of living, and everyone has their buttons.

I don\'t like Pikachu- used to, \'cuz he was funny, but after hearing "Pika pika!" \'bout a hundred times, you tend to get a little bitter.
IMO (that\'s pretty much required now, right?), I don\'t really care all that much about online gaming. Maybe it\'s because I\'m stuck with 56K, or maybe it\'s because I have a PC- who knows?
When everything finally goes online, I\'m anxious to see what everyone thinks. Maybe I\'ll come around then. :)

I\'m not tryin to flame you, so don\'t take this personal, but just wanted to point one thing out. Who\'s to decide what a successful and meaningful life is? Everyone has their opinions, and whilst one tells the other to shut up, they too are possibly the ones that also need to shut up. In my personal opinion, everything\'s a two way road.
And correct me if I\'m wrong (I don\'t know the exact facts) but I thought that overuse of weed tend to kill off brain cells (a lot of which we don\'t use anyways). And from personal experience, I find that weed tends to make you lose concentration, thus I decided that weed wasn\'t exactly the thing for me.

I hadnt really heard about the tomato thing, but it kind of does make sense. Tomato plants are known to have some sort of poison in them, as gardeners are well aware of. When you have a batch of tomato plants in a specific area, after 2 seasons, that soil is pretty much left useless.. nothing else can grow there unless you fertilize the heck out of the soil..

Ok.. umm.. question here. How am I going to get lung and throat cancer when I don\'t even smoke it. One of the wonderful things about Marijuana is.. you don\'t have to smoke it. It works just as well (or better in some cases) when ingested. Plus it tastes great on Bagels. :D Even if it does look like Guacamoli dip that\'s been left on the counter for far too long.....

It would still cause some sort of problem if you ate it,it is a poisonous weed.Probably not as bad as smoking it.Also apple seeds are supposed to contain arsnic,so if you drink apple juice be warned your drinking poison.

my ex-fiance would wake up in the middle of the night just to hit her bong. it was pathetic. she would smoke before going to work. she would smoke before going to the movies. she would smoke before we bumped uglies. she would smoke before she had a ciggarette. it pretty much cost us our relationship, so hell yeah, im jaded.
and it was hella expensive compared to cigarettes
try getting 20 joints for the price of a pack of cigarettes
im a big fan of moderation

That\'s funny, I have friends who do nothing but litterally smoke bud 24/7 and haven\'t lost much of their brain capacity at all. It dosen\'t "KILL" braincells.. that\'s a scare tactic with no -credible- scientific proof to back it up. It DOES inhibit brain activity however.. you are right on that point. However that\'s only while THC is still within the body. As any smoker who was subjected to urinology tests knows, THC attaches to your fat cells and takes roughly 2 weeks to 3 months to completely wash out of your system. Even tho you\'re not high, it does inhibit brain functions.. expecially since your brain has quite a high percentage of fat for the THC to cling to.
In normal - healthy- adults, the detrimental effects have been found to be only temporary. However it CAN interfer with developing bodies durring puberty. Another effect it can have, which isn\'t really widely known because it hasn\'t been turoughly tested yet AFAIK, is that when people exposed to marijuana who are still in their formative years can cause long term brain function abnormalities. See, the brain isn\'t pre-programed to learn. Sure, you soak up knowlage at an early age.. but as you start acumulating more knowlage you have to form good study habits. You have to learn how to learn so to speak. This point is made in case of language. We aren\'t born with a tendacy to verbal language. As with the case of many well documented "Wild Children", if language isn\'t tought in some form by a certain age.. the child then becomes unable to learn language... or at least finds it extreemly difficult. Inhibiting brain functionality at such a young age with THC can disrupt the learning process and cause problems down the road.
Also, I should point out, that while it\'s rare that a pot-head buddy of mine ends up as "burnt out" as your Ex, those few that are were usually involved in other drugs. Mostly inhalants, such as Glade, Nitros, Rubber Cement, and Gasoline. That shyt DOES cause braindamage.
Anyhow, here\'s a quick lil bit of MJ trivia for ya\'ll. Did you know that Marijuana\'s withdraw sympoms are everybit as severe as opiums? It\'s true. Marijuana IS addictive.. physically. However, since the THC stays in your body for such a long period of time, it takes most of the edge off of the withdraw process. Most people don\'t even notice it, and it gives the appearance (and IS for all intents and purposes) that the Psycological addiction is far more severe. (even tho psycological addictions are fairly easy to break)

Umm... OOookay. When was the last time you looked at the description for a bottle of medicine your doctor perscribed to you?? I mean really.. my dad used to have a heart condition and some of the medication they had him on was completely WACKED. Cumadine? Ain\'t nothing but Rat Poision. Most of the stuff he was on caused damage to several organs, and their side effects are almost as bad as the disease itself. After he passed away, my Mom was put on Prozac, Xanax, High bloodpressure medicine... all kinds of shyt. It go so bad that they had to perscribe her medicine to counteract the side effects of other medication.

A whole lotta perscription drugs can cause serious sideeffects. My mom was on some type, Serzone, but had to quit because it was hurting her liver.
