Ok end of high school is nearing and i know there are a lot of intelligent people on these boards...(right?:p). So i was wondering what the hell i should do when schools out...then i thought i would ask you guys what you chose when coming out of high school.
I know getting a decent job is probably a popular answer but im wondering for the people that went to collage or are currently attending,.......what are you majoring in and what is your desired job for the future?
Im taking pretty much every class i can in highschool so im not "closing any doors" to any educational area but i find that im really good at the math and science classes so im leaning more towards engineering or astronomy...
Has anyone followed or know someone who has followed this same path? If so, how were the job oportunities coming out of your education? and how was the pay?
I dont know how many responses im going to get out of this, but even if you didnt follow this path, please share your experiences with choosing a major and your experinces as you came out of college.
:bounce:

Well there is really no right answer that any of us can give you man. The only thing I would suggest is to follow anything that interests you. You never know what will pan out for ya!!!
-
yeah, its basic dude. do what you want.

Well, I just graduated on the 20th (go me!) and I am attending college in the fall. Right now I plan to major in political science and then continue on in some law school or just taking business administration.. Still deciding. It\'s really hard to decide. So many things coming at ya, it\'s really intimidating. Just take it a step at a time.. That\' what I\'m trying to do now.

I recommend having a year off before going to college.
Get a full time job and earn lotsa money, buy a decent car, get a head etc...

well done for graduating man, it sucks that Australia doesnt have colledge....instead we have uni, well i dont know about u guyz but i wanna do "IT" or Networking i already have 2 semesters up my sleeve of cisco and passed the exams....i love computers!!! :D

University in Australia is college. We have colleges where you study highschool, but alot of Uni\'s are very similar to the American college life.
Alot of them have boarders etc, when they are from outside the city.
-
Yeah, true i think that S.A has one called flinders uni with dorms, but it aint like America, becasue all the chicks are really nerds!!!
no offence but i wouldnt go there anyway a close one to my house would be prefered!!!
-
Hehehe, you live in SA though, nothing happens down there.
In Brisbane, we have UQ and QUT, two of the best uni\'s in the country. Sydney and Melbourne also have excellent uni\'s.
QUT has 27 000 students. It have dorms too.

to be honest we cant awner that question for you..... just get a few college thing, and look at job oppourtunities afte youve doen the course.....
im doing engineering, in my 3 rd year now.. its getting hard
-
Well gookd luck in engineering!!!!

Definitely go to college so you can defer the decision for several more years.
If you\'re into math and science, I\'d recommend that you try to adopt a very long vision of what types of technology-related skills will be needed in the future. Sure everyone says "computers" when discussing a good math/science careeer, but I believe you should look beyond that. It could be that during our lifetime computer techology will advance to the point where human intervention is not needed to the extent it is today. Then that field won\'t be a great place to be stuck in.
I think you should consider anything having to do with robotics, space flight, genetic engineering, abstract physics, etc. Use your imagination. I especially feel that robotics is a field that is currently very small compared to what it will inevitably become. If you\'re able to think about the Earth of 30-40 years from now, that will help you make the right choice.

With me, I didn\'t know what I wanted to major in when I graduated high school. So I went to a junior college and took my general education courses, to get them out of the way. I don\'t know if Canada has any community colleges, but if you do, then look for some class that\'s like a career exploration. It\'ll help you narrow down what you can consider as a possible major. By taking those general ed courses you can take your time to decide what you want to do with life.
THis summer you can conduct some interviews with people who are in some professions that seem to interest you. Ask them what it\'s like to work in that field and if they think it\'s satisfying. Of course, the average person changes careers at least an average of 3 times in his/her lifetime.
Well, congratulations on graduating! And good luck in finding what you want to do with life.

Lots of advice here. The best I can give you is to do a job you like. Life is too short and the days are too, to be spending 8 hours a day doing something you don\'t like.
Don\'t worry if you don\'t know immediately what you want to do. You may have to try something to see if it\'s really what you want.

My advice is don\'t do mechanical engineering, it\'s boring hehe :P
I\'m done with my 2nd year and I\'ve just chosen which direction to take so it might get more interesting starting this fall.

I Kinda agree with what you said but not totaly. Sure do what you like but not something that is fun or realy enjoyable to you because when it becomes your work you will grow to hat it.

I don\'t know about that. I know several people who do truely enjoy their jobs.
My father is one of them, come to think of it.
Just get a job with high pay, lot\'s of power, low hours, and a minimal amount of work. :D
