Not many people around here know that my history with videogames. Growing up with them ive played them all my life. Commodore 64 was one of my first favorites. And over the years i became fans of many companies. During the 16bit era i was a fan of both Sega MegaDrive (Genesis) and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. I loved both of these consoles to death and to this day both have some of my favorite all time games. And along with the announcement of the Ultra64 i was incredibly hyped up for the console. The news of Sony entering the Console industry was disturbing for my Sega/Nintendo ears and when i first played the Playstation i was vastly disappointed and my anticipation for the Ultra64/Nintendo64 grew even more.
Posters of the console were stickered all over my wall as the Nintendo64\'s release grew closer. Finally the console was released, and although i couldnt afford it, i had friends who did. And i was finally allowed to play it. Enter Mario64. A game that i... could not stand. And to this day i still dont like many 3D platformers. My interest was fading. And on the PSX Resident Evil was released. I played it, i **** my pants, i cleaned my pants, and i loved it. With few more games being released on the N64 i was slowly losing interest and i was very disappointed. Eventually i forgot all about it.
Final Fantasy 7 was released on the PSX. A game which was then, and still is, and always will be (im pretty sure :p) my favorite game. Resident Evil 2 was released, and i loved it again. (these are just landmark titles i played others as well on the system) Around about the time of Resident Evil 2\'s release, i started to befriend someone who was a HUGE Nintendo fan. And eventually he talked me into playing the new Zelda, Goldeneye and many others (and later released titles).
Perhaps it was the Sony fanboy in me (and i was a big one) but i could not bring myself to enhoy any of these. Goldeneye provided great fun with 3 friends (although i sucked at it) but i always failed to see the fun. Many other games came and went, Donkey Kong (Country and Land were two of my all time fav. titles) another 3DF platformer that i didnt like. Bomberman 64 was great fun with 3 friends. Jet Force Gemini. The next Zelda. All of these games i couldnt enjoy.
Needless to say in my fanboy mind, the N64 became one of my biggest disappointments in the console industry, and probably my least favorite mainstream console. What is the point of this story? Well tommorrow (Monday 27th of May, 2002) i will be purchasing a brand spanking new Nintendo GameCube. $318AUD, plus a controller and memory card, plus Pikmin (i dont care what you say, ive been looking forward to this game for a while). Super Smash Brothers: Melee is being released on the 31st and shall be my second purchase for the console. Even if i dont like these games, Resident Evil, Resident Evil Zero, and Resident Evil 4 are essential purchases for me. And Metroid is a sure thing as well.
Im picking an odd time to buy one as well, with Final Fantasy X keeping me enthralled at the moment (although i cant be too far away from finishing it) Virtua Fighter 4 still barely touched (because of FFX) and Medal Of Honor: Frontline\'s imminant release.
anyhoo, just thought i\'d let everyone know :)
BTW, as great as Zelda looks, im still not interested in it. Or Mario for that matter :)

I don\'t think there is a soul around here who would make fun of you for buying another console (except for maybe Clowd, if you were to buy an X-Box), so there is no need to feel akward or anything. I\'m gonna be getting a GameCube in July, for my birthday. And I\'m also intrested in the above mentioned GC games.
Cool beans. ;)
-
its just a personal thing. i hated the N64, and a year ago there was no way in hell i would have ever bought a GCN.. EVER.. and look where i am
it feels weird :)
-
Yah, what\'s wrong with not liking the N64? I know I hated it for a long period of time. Then Zelda came out. Nuff said. Just enjoy it as much as you can. :)
-
Ahh cool.. I think it\'s cool that people are buying it. I\'d rather get a GC now then a Xbox now...
Hopefully you enjoy it.

EEW EEEW GAY GAY!!!111 ;)
I\'ve never owned a Nintendo console before. They just haven\'t interested me - but with GC my interest is renewed. I wouldn\'t mind owning one of those little lunchboxes. :D
EDIT: Where the hell is my picture! *sniff*

Hey Bobb-o, how are you going to sell your soul? I mean, don\'t you have to have one first before you can sell it? Don\'t worry tho, I\'m sure you can pick up a cheap on Ebay. That\'s what I did. :D
I know how ya feel tho.. after the Saturn\'s dismal failure (expecially here in Indiana) I was pissed at Sega. Clockwork Knight? Daytona USA? That game with the 3 small vikings? This is the best they can do?? WTF? I felt like I had wasted my money.. I mean.. at least Nintnedo GAVE you game (even tho you didn\'t like em) with the N64. I paid for basically a very pretty CD player. It\'s only now that I can afford to make trips up to Fort Wayne and pick up some of these old titles that I\'m getting what I feel is my money\'s worth out of the system.
Some people here might remember, but I bashed the Dreamcast pretty hard when I first joined up. I was still pissed off over the Saturn... expecially after the excellent job they did with the Genesis. All it took was one game.. PSO.. and that started to change my mind. I got to looking into the system more and more.. and even tho I knew it was dead before the actual announcement.. I decided to buy one. Sega gave it their all this time.. and their "lack of effort" was mainly due to financial issues rather than idiotic corperate decisions. The games were fun, the system was cheap, and most importantly they got them to my area so I could buy em!
Felt weird picking up a Sega Controller again at first.. (expecially cause the fukker looked HUGE) and I envyed my cousin who got his PS2 around the same time... but these days he\'s actually envying me since he wants alot of the games I have but can\'t find a DC anywhere. Hey I\'ve had more fun at a lower cost with this system than any other system I\'ve ever had before. That\'s saying alot considering where I was two years ago.
I don\'t think the NGC will end up anything like the N64. And I think you\'re going to get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Heh.. I\'m feeling weird again too because I\'m looking forward to my NGC. First Nintnedo console I actually looked at and said.. damn.. I can\'t wait to get one of those. Games like Metroid, Eternal Darnkess, RE:0, and such will do that to ya.
Enjoy... and hey... Get PSO when it comes out.

I might be alone on this.. but the N64 was an awesome system for me.
Sure, I loathed the fact that it had very few RPG\'s.. and only 2 of those were any good..
I also thought that the game library could have been bigger.. and that Capcom could\'ve stepped up sooner.
Nevertheless, it provided me with hundreds of hours of gaming excitement.. and provoked me to instantly choose GameCube over a PS2 or Xbox. Hehe.. even in the defeat of the N64, I think there was a victory there.
Only Nintendo could pull something like that, only Nintendo. ;)

And Sony, apparently. ;]

Eik: I mean on a 1st-party level. ;)
Sega comes close to Nintendo in this regard quality-wise, but even with 90% of their big franchises on the Dreamcast.. the system sunk and sold around 1/3 of what N64 did overall.
Sony couldn\'t keep PSX alive without 3rd-parties in its prime. Nintendo did.

Good decision, while the great titles may not be there yet, don\'t worry, they are coming.
SonyFan, I know why I loathed you at first now!! You hated the DC when I joined, but ya wisened up, now didn\'t ya!?!?! :) I just picked up Unreal Tournament and was wondering if you got it and wanna play online sometime? I will probably be buying Quake 3 next week :)

You aren\'t alone. I personally loved my N64. I have actually owned every Nintendo console created with the exception of one (Game Boy Advance). I loved my N64 though. It kept me entertained enough to not need a PSX through most of the time it was out there. I didn\'t actually get a PSX until FF9 was released, and I got my PSX only because of Final Fantasy games. Without Square working for Sony, I never would have considered getting a Playstation. For me, getting a GameCube over a PS2 was an easy choice. I began to doubt it the last month or so, but a few things (Resident Evil, E3), have brought me back to Nintendo fanboyism.

Well, i have my GameCube. The little black ***** is sitting on top of my PS2 and is a nice little fit.
One thing i am amazed by is the size of the discs. They are the tiniest things outside of my pants.
I went to the store and found out that Pikmin and SSB:M are not out here until next month, and they are the two games i wanted to get. So i have Rogue Leader and WaveRace to keep me company (as well as all my PS2 games)
But the biggest disappointment was that when i bought it, i bought a memory card as well. But they gave me the display container which was EMPTY. I have to go back tommorrow and pick it up.
Overall, very tidy system indeed. And i cant wait for Pikmin, RE\'s and Metroid :)

Well, I can\'t say I really hated the DC. I was just lost, confused, and pissed off at the time. Sony took me under their wings and consoled me for awhile. But, just like a beaten and defeated housewife, I always come back. Yes, I am Sega\'s *****.
As for UT or QIII. Maybe... meetin up there would probably be harder than meetin up on PSO tho. Specially on Quake where you have to just remember an IP address of the game someone\'s going to be in.. and then have Alternates set up in case that sever is down or full. Fair warning tho, I suck ass at both games.. so wear clothing that isn\'t easlily stained by blood. My names are:
QIII: 420Love{TD}
UT: Sinue

And that\'s NO exaggeration people. :(

I\'m still waiting for the clip of you playin Pikmin on the new Faces of Death video.

Yes, I have a Gamecube, and its a great console. I am not a big fan of Pikmin. I have the game, but its very retarted. The only Game i\'ve been playing lately is Resident Evil, which is beautiful.
