Title: Xbox @ E3, did they show anything interesting??
Post by: bigrob on May 27, 2002, 02:19:42 AM
Well
Maybe it is becasue i am PS2 owner, and reads mostly about games comming to that machine. I have been thinking of getting an xbox as well for my bedroom but.......is there anything in the pipe for that machine (that is not on ps2) ( i know about project ego)

There seems to be alot of fun comming to ps2, and they that machine just seem to have so much untaped power.

Tell me about xbox games, and xbox performance at E3. Did they reveal anything breathtaking ??

Thanx.

Xbox has plenty of games coming.. im sure altered can list a few Sega titles..

E3 for Xbox brought no real surprises that i saw.. i guess along with official XBox Live announcements and the few XBox games that are using it.. i guess.. could be.. kinda good (at least at TeamXbox they think it is (XBOX WON THE SHOW!!))

oh.. except Blinx, because its a Mario killah thats going to revolutionise platformers    :p

buh.. *wasted post*

..ill see how long this thread lasts :)

I can\'t remember the persons name who resigned from Microsoft just a few weeks ago (he opened a company to develop games?).  I think it is because he left that Microsoft was left with their finger up their a$$.

Everything was obviously on his shoulders and became too much for him.  I have also heard nothing much from Microsoft.  I honestly feel that this was one of the most boring E3\'s in quite some time:(  , and that goes for all consoles.

Seamus Blackley was his name, he jumped the m$ ship to develop for other consoles

smart man, he is

Yep, I don\'t think that things are looking up in the M$ camp.  I have to be honest and that is that I think the Xbox is very good graphically but it laks something that the PS2 has...I think it is fun games.  Why are the games more fun?  Because the Dual Shock 2 is easy to work with.

I have played on the Xbox before and find the buttons so close together, small and on top of that the controller itself is huge.  There are only 3 games on the Xbox that I would want and that is Munches Odessy, DOA3 and the new rally game, besides that there is nothing.

I do have a question however, why is there suddenly so many crap games coming out?  It feels so PC-ish.  Games like MGS2, RE, Silent Hill, GT3, GTA3, DMC, etc.  were all excellent games but it seems to have slowed down at a huge pace.  I know that we have games like DMC2, RE: online, MGS2: Substance, CMR3, VR3, ATV2, NFS:HP2 and  GTA:M coming our way, but they are all glorified sequels.

Look at it this way, if you already have MGS2, which most of us do, then why have another MGS2 with slight alterations.  The skateboarding to me means squat, why have MGS: skateboarding if I have a great game like THPS3?

Remember the good old days of Megaman (Rockman)?  Many sequels came out.  At least it said Megaman2, 3, 4, etc.  Not  MGS1, MGS2: Sons of Liberty, MGS2: Substance.  I see that even the Toca series is taking this new way of naming titles?!?!

Just look at the Final Fantasy series, it is now at the 11th sequel and still pulling in the money like never before.  Every sequel is in fact a total different story witha different cast.  Now that is what I call excellent sequels.

The problem at the end lies with us guys, yes, we are the stupid people who go to buy the sequels and still rave about the same thing that has little alterations to the previous title.

I am not saying that sequels are all bad, but put some thought into it before just constructing it.:)

I think I better not get involved in the Xbox thing, but just to answer your question:

Look out for these games on PS2 this year:

And about the sequels - their might be a lot of sequels heading our way, but shouldn\'t be bad, as most of them aren\'t that story driven like MGS. ;)

XBox had a great e3, and if you go to any multiconsole forum, they almost always agree, GC and XBox had great shows, while PS2 was left flaunting their arrogance. Gamecube won the show, btw, but XBox was no slouch.

There weren\'t too many surprises on XBox besides Ninja Gaiden and MGS: S. But MS and it\'s third parties showed off a great lineup for this year and beyond.

titles to look out for if you do indeed get an XBox:

Sega GT 2002
Morrowind
Blinx (made by ex-designer on NiGHTS and Sonic)
Psychonauts
MGS: S
Project Ego
Unreal Championship
Splinter Cell
Raven Shield
Counter-Strike
PSO
Halo Online
Project Gotham Online

and then pick up Halo, Project Gotham, RalliSport, GUNVALKYRIE, and JSRF while you are at it. All excellent titles.

Hey Altered, might aswell ask you since you were quite impressed with the XBox E3 lineup: why is the Xbox lineup so much better than what Sony showed?

How someone can say "while PS2 was left flaunting their arrogance" is beyond me, after seeing what they had in stock for us. ;)

I didn\'t say it was.

PS2 took it\'s pre-E3 conference and used it to show what a bunch of piles they really were. "The console war is over" "The gap between us and our competitors is like the Grand Canyon", etc.

Nintendo and MS used their time to demonstrate some great new games. There weren\'t any surprises for anyone, really, but MS and Nintendo did the best with their booths, from what I hear. The buzz over the internet has been about Metroid Prime and Panzer Dragoon Orta, not Ratchet and Clank or The Getaway (although there was some good discussions about Getaway).

Taking this sentence, you obviously mean that GC and XBox had great shows - well, while PS2 was apperantly left flaunting their arrogance. Tells me pretty clearly that you personally feel that both companies had the better show than Sony.

So, why do you feel that the Xbox showing was so much better?! Looking at the games you\'ve listed further up, I don\'t see what was so special about it really.

but any way the only two games that have me a bit excited are Rachet & Clank ,and star fox

because you are a PS2 fan and owner, you will see what you want to see. I own both (soon to be all three) and from my perspective, with XBox Live details, Panzer Dragoon Orta (look at my sig), Shenmue II (ditto), Splinter Cell, Blinx, Psychonauts, etc.

If you aren\'t excited about these games, then you aren\'t actually looking at them. titles of games alone shouldn\'t have to interest you. Go download some videos of Psychonauts and Blinx and read up on them and tell me they don\'t sound like great concepts (built by great designers). I am a sucker for great Sega games, and XBox showed the best quantity of them.

You see, I never really questioned your credibility. I was just curious to why you think the Xbox show was so much better that\'s all. I guess we have different views then - but I still wouldn\'t go asfar to declare one company as a \'winner\'.

maybe he just doesn\'t like PS2...this thread is going to have bias.

That and Sony blew their load too early...really, I thought that GC and Xbox were tied.  Although Ratchet and Clank, and Socom did impress...

LoL, Samwise. Let me just hop in my Suspended animation unit and I\'ll be playing those bad boys in no time. Tho I may take a break and defrost a bit early in 2003 to get in some time with FFXI. ( <--- Still pissed about that)

Anyhow, I found the show pretty lack-luster this year. It just... wasn\'t as exciting as last years. Tru, all the REALLY big surprises concerning the three (four) consoles were already let out of the bag.. but it kept me from keeping 24 hour a day watch on the events. Well.. that and not having Daily Radar around to tell me how hot the booth babes were. : ( So anyhow, I didn\'t really pay too close attention to it. From where I sit tho, Nintnedo stole the show. They showed the most impressive games, and the most games I\'m interested in. As for Xbox... I\'ve decided to buy it last and get my PS2 bought and out of the way.. and then a GameCube come July or August in time for PSO E1 & 2. (PSO Xbox dosen\'t interest me because I don\'t have BB and I don\'t like the voice chat feature.. I have a tendancy to play female characters and I don\'t wanna have my cute lil FOnewearl Mana sounding like some biker dyke) I haven\'t been paying really good attention to it, but the titles which cought my eye are...

Malice
Splinter Cell
Panzer Dragoon
Project Ego
MorrowWind

And.. well... that\'s about it actually. Not interested in any online titles since (like I said) I don\'t have BB. Shenmue II will be mine on the Dreamcast long before the Xbox version ever nears completion. PSO I\'m gettin for the NGC. MGS2:S I\'m gettin for the PS2. And that pretty much sums it up for me.

Still, if I can find 20 games for the system that I want to buy over the course if it\'s lifetime.. then it\'s a good purchase AFAIC. I have no doubt that they\'ll make at LEAST that number. :)

Blinx (made by ex-designer on NiGHTS and Sonic)

Why is it that the most interesting ideas (the time aspect in Blinx) are placed in the stupidest types of games?  I am so incredibly sick of platformers, and yet the most creative ideas never seen before that takes full advantage of the XBox\'s hardware is a goddamn platformer.  *sigh*  It\'s baffling and frustrating all at the same time.  In case no one understands what I am talking about, here\'s a brief snippet from gamespot on this game\'s unique features:

-- But unlike any other platformer, Blinx\'s gameplay is dependent upon the flow of time, which is made possible via the Xbox hard drive. Whenever Blinx collides with a time monster, the game will briefly stop and then start to rewind, placing Blinx in the same situation he was in just seconds ago. Think of it as a restart of sorts where you\'re given a chance to correct your mistake and avoid that very same enemy. However, if you make contact with an enemy three times within a level, the game ends. The concept of adjusting time is extended even further by Blinx\'s ability to manipulate time manually by recording, rewinding, fast-forwarding, pausing, or using slow motion. To use these functions, Blinx has to collect four of the corresponding items for that function. For example, if you want to use pause, then you have to collect four blue moons before you can press the X button, go into the menu, and then use it.

Counter-Strike

I don\'t want to make this a post criticizing all the games you listed Altered, I actually have quite high expectations of your list and am greatly anticipating quite a few titles listed there, but this particular title has to be the stupidest thing I\'ve ever seen.  I\'m sorry, but this game should stay on the PC where it truly belongs.  Oh well, to each their own, but having to pay for a game that\'s free otherwise is dissapointing.  I felt just as bad when CS went retail, and now this is just as terrible.  Ugh, how dissapointing.

Well in that case, you should know that the Xbox voice communicator has a voice altering feature. You might sound like a woman afterall.:p;)

Or I could just tye my nuts up with a couple thick rubber bands!

Naw... I\'ll stick with the KB communication. It\'s easier to "Role Play" when you don\'t have a contradictory sounding voice breaking the mood. I have initial doubts as to how well the "Voice changer" works.. and I\'m more comfortable using type face instead of voice in a RPG setting anyhow.

seven, yes your opinion matters less because as a PS2-only owner, you probably looked very closely at the PS2 titles, and less so on everything else. I looked at all the games I could for every system and the ones that generated alot of excitement for me were on XBox or GC, very few on PS2, although it had it\'s highlights in Shinobi and a couple other games.

SonyFan - I believe MGS2:S is coming out on XBox first, so you might as well put that in your list for XBox purchases. :p

I believe Nintendo generated the most excitement industry-wide. I personally would not say their games were better than other things shown, but a few on the GC interest me: PSO, RE: 0, Mario, Zelda, etc.

The real winner of E3 was obviously Sega, though. :D Oh yeah! Lovin for everyone! (especially me)

No Altered: I\'ll be getting MGS2:S for the PS2. That\'s the platform I prefer to play it on. Jus like (if rumors about SplinterCell comming to PS2 are true) I\'d rather play Splinter Cell on the Xbox... and just like how I\'d rather play Shenmue II on the Dreamcast...

I don\'t know if you.. or really anyone.. understands this thought process. I guess, in my mind, MGS2 BELONGS on the PS2.. and that\'s where I\'ll play it. It\'s the same way with Malice. It just BELONGS on the Xbox.. and that\'s where I\'ll play it.

The only reason I\'m buying PSO for the NGC is because the enhanced version won\'t be comming out for the Dreamcast.. and PSO\'s servers are pretty dead as it is now.

Oh.. and if anyone tries to tell me that PSO for GC is a sequel to PSO for the DC because it has X% of new areas and X# of new characters, then so help me god I\'ll slap them across the face with my unwashed penis +99.

Yeah, for the PS2 Shinobi looks great, the Getaway could be good, but I\'m not completely sold (remember I hate GTA3) and now that Rygar has dropped from the PS2 release lists (on the Tecmo site), it appears that title is scrapped or delayed indefinitely.

The rest are sequels and don\'t really excite me (although I\'ll probably rent most of them).

I think the GC had a great show, and I can see how people are exctied about the coming months, but as I have said before, it\'s not my thing--Metroid looks promising though.

The xbox had a great show.  Mech Assault, Panzer, Project Ego, KOTOR and Unreal Championship (I\'m a sucker for Unreal games) look incredible.  I\'m also pretty jacked about Xbox Live.

Looking at that list again though, MS is walking a fine line:  Panzer could bore (being on rails and all), ditto for Splinter Cell, KOTOR is only exclusive for a time, UC is PC bound in some form or another, Ego could tank...I think Mech Assault will be good though.  So will Crimson Skies.  Brute Force is also very tricky.  But all these other "AAA" games could turn out to be hyped nonsense.  I guess by November we\'ll see.

Either way, I\'m still more excited about xbox than the other two consoles.  I pretty much know what to expect from most of Nintendo and Sony\'s offerings (being sequels or platformers--btw, I agree with Ryu on the whole platformer/Blinks issue), and some will be strong titles, but we\'ve all been there.

With the xbox there is at least a chance that some new killer franchises might emerge.

I think Shinobi will be a letdown. I don\'t like it\'s 3d transition at all. Some games just don\'t work out sometimes when it enters the third dimension.
Title: Xbox @ E3, did they show anything interesting??
Post by: SonyFan on May 28, 2002, 02:01:18 AM
Well \\/aporSnake... if they tried to keep the 2d gameplay in a 3d enviroment, then yeah, I agree that it would probably fail pretty badly. I don\'t think Sega\'s stupid enough to pull a move like that tho. This Shinobi will end up being a totally new game, with totally new gameplay, but with subtle hints and an atmosphere of the old skool. I doubt Sega is willing to sacrifice what may be a great game in order to cling -too- strongly to it roots. This might be why we\'re seeing an all new Shinobi instead of Sega\'s old standby Joe Mushashi(sp?).

DXB, firstly, I defend the xbox around here more than most, what may have confused you is that I do so while maintaining some integrity and objectivity.  I prefer the realistic approach.  You prefer to flame and embarrass yourself, garnering no credibility and thereby making your posts useless and counter productive.  When jerks like you come around it only solidifies the resolve of PS2 heads making the atmosphere around here as bad as it is.

The sequels for the PS2 games will be more of the same, we know as gamers what to expect from them and will probably enjoy them.

With the upcoming batch of xbox titles, we really don\'t know how well they\'ll play or how fun the games will be because they are the first in their respective franchises.

I have no doubt that Halo 2 will be one of the best games released during that calendar year (whenever that will be), but as for those other titles they are just guesses.

That\'s why I am anticipating the upcoming xbox games moreso than the PS2 or GC franchises because there is a chance for them to be great and new.

Yeah, Ashford, I\'m still on PSO. That game Owenzes meh. I just got me and my friend Misaki hooked up with v.2 again through PSOExplorer\'s website so I\'m soaking it up pretty hardcore lately. Actually, heh, I\'m headding back there as soon as I finish up my posts here and take a shower.

If ya wanna play, I\'ll be on this Saturday night round.. well.. probably all night long. If ya wanna try to meet up again, then lemmie know where and what time you\'ll be online.

And yeah.. I do suck for not having Shenmue II. I ain\'t got a credit card to order it online tho, and there\'s no import shops out here in BFE Indiana. If you wanna buy it for me, I\'ll gladly send you a money order for 5 bucks more than what you\'d actually pay for it. Get me Headhunter too while yer at it. :D I\'ve been dying to play that game, and I\'ll be damned if I get the PS2 version.

I jus started a new character too. A FOmarl with Pink hair and a Navy blue dress named Krynn. She kinda sucks right now, but once I start loading her up with all the +15 lvl spells Tesla finds in Ult Ruins she should be pretty kik ass. Still no match for mah baby, Mana, tho. :D

HA!

Good luck finding a copy of Shenmue 2, now. Go look for a copy on eBay.

Stay away from Headhunter. I bought it expecting RE and MGS, combined and got something dull. Also because it was one of the DC\'s last games.

As for PSO, Saturday night, huh? Stupid time zones. It\'ll probably be mad late but I\'ll try.

I always play on JP ships, usually Europa.

My FOnewearl > Your FOnewearl

Lvl 120 > Lvl 114

Nozomi II > Mana

Actually, Mana\'s only lvl 110. Tesla is 114. Anyhow, my FOnewearl has mad skylz and is cute as a button ta-boot. She\'ll always be > Nozomi II. :p Plus everyone gets a kick outta my Handicapped BJ animation... and that one where I dunk people in the toilet. Mana... she\'s mah baby.

Sides.. I took 3 months off from playin her cause I had no HL. And.. ALL her levels are Legit. Can you say that for Nozomi II?

Europa.. alright.. PM me a block & lobby # where I can find you at.. usual passwords and whatever else I might need. I might be bringing Amy along too. I never get a chance to play with her since I started work, and I\'ll be damned if I let another weekend go by without chattin with her.

*Would attach a picture of her, but it\'s 6,000 bytes over this dumb attach file option\'s limit.*

Hmmm, what do you mean by legit levels?

If you mean if I got her to Lvl 120 from gathering exp the legal way, then yes, Nozomi II is definitely legit.

But, I\'m sure her weapons and certain armors are not as those were gifts.

:fro:

Still sad that Nozomi I was killed by a loser hacker.

:(

And I bet my FOnewearl is cuter than yours.

Just wanted to point out smth.

Take a look at XBox upcoming game list and take out all games that are either on PS2/GC already, games that  are also coming out for PS2/GC and games that are on PC or coming out on PC.

You are left with almost nothing.

More games like Bloodwake?? LOL

If any of you truly think I believe that, give your head a shake.

To believe one statement and not the other is utterly ridiculous and is why I posted almost the exact same message (with a few choice alterations).  I don\'t knowhow to be any more sarcastic than that.

Blunt, like Chrono, is a mindless fanboy or just mindless, I\'m not sure which.
