Title: Website that explains PS2\'s design?
Post by: nataku on May 27, 2002, 09:20:58 AM
Anyone know that website URL that explains the PS2\'s architecture? I can\'t seem to find it... I remember visiting it awhile ago, but it was a few months ago... I never bookedmarked the thing.  It\'s probably not even a site anymore.  I have some morons in another forum who seem to think the Xbox has a better designed architecture than the PS2.  They think because of the PS2\'s lack of VRAM it can\'t do good textures (yeah, that arguement again)... I need to give them that article to set them straight on how the system is designed to work.

I don\'t have the exact link onhand, but the site is http://www.arstechnica.com Look for two articals titled something like: Explaining the EE and PC vs PS2. One of them explains the over all system archetecture, and the other one explains the differences between Dynamic (PS2) and Static (x86) data processing.

nataku, here are all important ones:

Article that explains the architecture of the EE:
http://arstechnica.com/reviews/1q00/playstation2/ee-1.html

Article that compares the PS2 architecture to the one found on todays PCs:
http://www.arstechnica.com/cpu/2q00/ps2/ps2vspc-3.html

Especially check out the second articles.. sums up pretty nicely how much potential it has and how much more advanced it is.
