Well, Junior is back and Aaron Boone is coming out of his slump (he blasted two long ones tonight against Florida,) and we\'ve got some legit future all-stars in Adam Dunn, Austin Kearns and Corky Miller. Not to mention that we\'ve got the best closer in the game in Danny Graves.
Now, I think we need to trade for a pitcher. The talk is that Reds GM Jim Bowden wants Cleveland right-hander Bartolo Colon, but methinks we need a lefty in the rotation.
-
Yeah, thats right. The Reds amazingly are the real deal. If Griffey starts batting good again and everybody else keeps it up they might actually go somewhere.
-
I swear to god the Cubs are gonna win that division.

they better, although at this point..the future looks questionable. Sad part is, not like the talent isnt there. Least the southsiders are doing pretty well.
-
I think they\'re the real deal. The only thing that will keep them from taking the division is themselves. St. Louis has a pretty good team and a really good pitching staff, and I think it\'ll be awfully interesting come August.

Sure they will. Well I guess anything is possible considering the Reds manage to win games.

people dont realize just how good the Cubs farm system got about 5 years ago, in the next 2 years, everyone will see.
Corey Patterson - CF - Age 22- so far this year hitting .300, leading-off and is on pace to steal about 40 bases.
Bobby Hill - 2B- Age 24 - Future leadoff guy. Just called up a few weeks ago but has been great from the start. at one point he got on base 8 straight times.
Mark Prior -P- age 21 - I told you guys about him a few months ago. If your a baseball fan you probably already know he has had 2 starts, and both have been great. 10 k\'s in his first game. allowing 3 runs in 6. And only allowing 1 run in his second start in 6 innings on sunday.
Kerry Wood - P- age 24- I dont really have to say anything about Kerry.
Hee-Sop Choi - 1B- Age 23 - Rumors are if Mcgriff doesnt start hitting soon, Hee-Sop will be called up. If you are a Cubs fan you\'ve probably been hearing about this guy for awhile now. Huge (6\'5 240lbs) left-handed power hitter, and a good glove at first. He was actually supposed to start this year at first, but a hand injury slowed him.
Good lord I know alot about the Cubs.

The Cubs? Chicago\'s Useless Baseball Squad? How they manage to draw fans is beyond me. Sammy Sosa could be a great player on a great team - a team that\'s actually going somewhere, so why doesn\'t he demand a trade? The manager sucks and the ownership is not committed to winning. Plus, for all its history, Wrigley Field is a cesspool. I\'ve been there a couple of times and wasn\'t impressed. In fact, I was depressed even though the Reds won. The Cubs desparately need a modern ballpark.
-
Lukes not gonna be happy.
-
Wrigly Feild is the most beatiful park in all of baseball. Right smack dab in one of the nicest neiborhoods in chicago. How can you call it a cesspool? its clean, small, and charming. its a peice of baseball history.
and sammy isnt requesting a trade because he, like I, know what the Cubs will be in 2 or 3 years, a world series contender.

they need a ballpark to make you or other out of towners happy? Funny how I only mainly hear out of towners say that about wrigley. There is ALOT of history at Wrigley and alot of people arent willing to give that up. The are around wrigley is phenomenal, no way they would be able to tear it down ansd still fit a modern ball park where it is. No one is willing to give that up either.
Sosa demand a trade?? He just resigned a new contract, he is a loyal player, something you dont see much in sports anymore.
I wont give up on wrigely untill Im forced to. Just like all of the other loyal fans. Worst starting record a few years ago..the seats were STILL sold out :)

I respect Cubs fans for showing the pride in their team the way they do, but facts are facts.
-
What did griffey bat? 0-5? My friend who is a die-hard Mariners fan and despises Ken Griff kept IMing about how bad Griffey was batting.
Although my main set now is on b-ball, I like the Indians alot. And luckily the AL Central is weak as hell the Indians even with their mediocre performances the last month are only 4 games back!

what facts? that YOU think Wrigley Feild sucks? That YOU think the Tribune Company doesnt want to win? that YOU think Don baylor cant manage?
ok well ill give you the Don Baylor one.
But mark my words man, the cubs are about to change thier losing ways. It just took 90 years.

don wasnt too bad IMO the last to years, this yr, he just plain sucks though. O well, with luck he wont have a job in chi next year.
-
Yeah... This mystifies me. How many players go out two months with an injury and come back to the big club immediately? Why shouldn\'t Junior go on a rehab assignment with the Triple-A ballclub (the Louisville Bats?) He\'s a great player and I want him playing for the Reds, but his behavior needs work.

rumors are the players want him fired.

Im not surprised, his coaching is at an all time low now IMO.

I know the history of Wrigley, Luke, and maybe the word "cesspool" was a little strong, but, from a non-Chicagoan, the place is antiquated. But, I can\'t blame you for sticking up for it though. We used to have a ballpark here in Cincinnati that was just as revered as Wrigley called Crosley Field, and in many ways, they\'re similar. When Crosley was abandoned in mid-1970, a lot of people poo-pooed the idea of playing in a concrete donut, but the move paid off.
By the way, visit Crosley Field.com (http://www.crosleyfield.com)
-
Also, Bob Boone is catching hell, too. His overmanaging bugs the hell out of me.
-
Pizza guy, take it from someone who is a New Yorker, and thus unbiased: Wrigley Field is a great park. I hope they never change it.
And by the way Pizza Guy, I was born in Cincinnati, so I kinda know what I\'m talking about here: The Reds fields, past and present, aren\'t as good as Wrigley.
As for the Cubs, they sure as hell have a good team, and I do not think it will be long before they make a move at the NL Central crown. Just look at the team for a moment. Their pitching is great. We all know about Wood. Lieber is a very strong pitcher, not to mention the best on the staff last year. Prior is the most promising pitching prospect, not just right now, but possibly ever. They have been dealing with a lot of bull pen related injuries, but when Gordon gets back, the team will basically have two closers. Either one will be great as a setup man.
Their hitting is what has let them down, but I think they have a promising future here too. Alou will not keep struggling as he has been. McGriff is decent, and as Luke said, they have another 1b on the way. Patterson is a promising young player from what I\'ve seen in him. Hill has looked good as well. Then you have Sosa. If this club ever starts hitting well, which they haven\'t been doing so far, watch out.
-
Wrigley field isn\'t all nice and new like a lot of fields in baseball but people from all around take trips just to see the field so that should go for something.
-
I don\'t like when people take down historic fields. Even if a team moves to a new field i think they should leave the old one up. Especially if it has alot of history. Oh well, go D-Backs.

Really? I can name atleast 4 guys that are better than him.
Jason Isringhausen
John Smoltz
Mariano Rivera
Eric Gagne
I\'ve been to Wrigley, it was a nice park for being so old. Oh BTW shock, how bout them BRAVES! Taking first place woo.
-
I can name more than 4 closers better than Graves. Smoltz isn\'t one of them, at least he hasn\'t been yet.
Nen, Wagner, Percival, Hoffman, Rivera, and Sasaki are the best in the game in my opinion.
-
Smoltz is awesome, you obviously don\'t watch the Braves much. Stupid Mets fan....jeez
I forgot about Nen, Sasaki, and Hoffman for some odd reason.
-
I hate the braves.;)
-
Yes, because nothing says awesome for a closer like an ERA of 5.93
By the way, he blew ANOTHER save tonight. Good job.
The times I\'ve seen him pitch were against the Mets. He sucked in those games. But with an ERA of almost 6, I\'d say he\'s one of the worst closers out there right now. Definitely not one of the best.
-
You have forgotten that he isn\'t a natural closer. Hes a starting pitcher forced into the Closer role. Which I thought was a retarded move by the Braves. They should\'ve traded Millwood and Jordan for Sheffield, kept Perez and possibly used him as their closer.
-
Does it matter if he is a natural closer? All I\'m saying is don\'t list him as one of the best closers when he clearly isn\'t :p
-
oh.. you wanna talk about closers now?

-
Gary Sheffield? Why? He\'ll just whine some more about "rampant racism in baseball." They\'re better off without the headaches that come as a package deal with Sheffield.
-
I completely disagree. Sheffield is a great player. I know I\'d take him. If the Mets some how ended up with him, I\'d love that. Yeah...
-
Sheffield is a good fit for the Braves. He brings an edge to the team that wasn\'t there before. Plus they are starting to hit better now as a team. Andruw Jones woo!
-
The Reds swept the Marlins WHOO-HOO!!!:D
If they pulled a trade, I\'d like it to be for Cleveland\'s Bartolo Colon. I\'d package C Jason Larue, OF Ruben Mateo, and P Elmer Dessens for him.
-
Byung-Hyun Kim 0wnz j00. He has some off days but he\'s usually pretty damn good. One of the best in the league. But maybe i\'m just being biased :D
-
Kim is my favorite pitcher... not just closer, but favorite pitcher... that submarine delivery is so fricken cool. but you know thats gonna catch up to him, hes gotta be absolutly destroying his arm.
-
Adam Dunn is GOD.
-
umm Go Tom Glavine?!

Yeah, two of those off days provided what has to be one of my better baseball memories. Those off days just happened to be on back to back nights too... ;)

Bah...damn Yankees. Oh well...Game 7 made it all better. Ahh...Louis Gonzalez with a blooper over Derek Jeter. Game over, D-Backs win. And my best friend was at that game too :rpissed:
