Title: GC had the best line up of this generation
Post by: CS2x on June 02, 2002, 11:51:05 AM
Excluding the Dreamcast, I believe the GC had the best launch games of this generation (even though the games weren\'t mind-blowing...just amazingly fun)

X-Box launched with the increadable Halo, so it comes second, but there weren\'t enough other great games imo....

and PS2 only launched with two reasonably good games, SSX and Timesplitters...although I admit my PS2 has some fab games now, its lauch was the worst.

which console do you think had the best launch games?

if the gamecube launched with SSB, I would consider it the best

I thought the Xbox had the best launch because of Halo.  I agree PS2 had the worst but is now the cream of the crop if you want a big variety of games.

It\'s arguable that the GCN had the best "first month" of any console.

I\'d say that the Xbox is damned close.. but how could we forget the DC? SNES is also very close.

I disagree with that.  I think Halo alone makes the xbox launch equally good.

I think SNES was better than anything this generation, but then again, we are talking about this generation.

I\'ll go with GC, of course :)

DC comes in first...I spent around 600 on games and accessories the first two weeks.  It was amazing.

Xbox comes in second...I bought a 500$ bundle and spent an extra 200 on games and accessories in the first month.

I didn\'t favor the GC or PS2 launch so I say tie, IMO.

I\'d say the order goes a bit like this...

Dreamcast
Xbox (only for Halo and Munches)
PS2 (It had a few gems.. but I wasn\'t impressed to say the least)
NGC (Nothing really interested me.. and as of right now, there isn\'t much that intrests me. That will soon change, I hope, unless Nintendo pushes back the release dates of a few key games I\'m REALLY lookin forward to)

BTW: Got to play Rouge Leader II this weekend at McVans. This was one of the FEW titles that barely caught my eye at the NGC launch. (I\'m not a big SW fan at all) Graphics were Ace, Sound was god-like, but the control and gameplay were rough and shallow. Maybe if I spent more time with it I\'d change my mind.. but as of now I\'m not TOO impressed at all with it aside from asthetics.

It also takes for god-damned EVER to actually get into a game. At least in most games you can skip unimportant cut-scenes and get to the meat of the game. Not RL2. I started it up and would browse the store for a few minuties while I waited to actually get a chance to play. Pathetic.

Why is everyone so heads over heels in love with Halo???  It\'s just a simple FPS shooter.  Yeah great game, love the 1 player mode, but I played so much GoldenEye multi player that Im just sick of that genre.  Especially when PC FPS games make Halo their biatch while PC games have nothing on the PS2 & GC exclusives

PS2 had Tekken Tag, Dynasty Warriors, Madden and SSX.

GC had Smash Bros which is much more original than just another FPS game.

All I know is that PS2 was sold out within secs and my friend got one by "renting" at Blockbuster never to be returned.  We played that thing nonstop.

He said excluding DC and this gen. Read carefully next time.

Gamecube had a great launch. But you people are underestimating PS2\'s launch. Time Splitter kept me entertained for months. SSX is the best snowboarding game Ive ever played. Id sayt the list for this gen goes thiis way

1. GC
2. Ps2
3. X-box

Gc was first becuase all of its launch games that I bought kept me entertained. PS2 sencond because its games kept me entertained the longest but not all of them were that entertaining. X-Box third because the only thong good about the Box were its amazing graphics and HALO.

Cloud345: I read carefully, I just gave out a liberal answer.

I didn\'t even talk about launch day like everybody else.. I\'m talking about the 1st month of releases. Why?

Personally, I think the first 30 days are a launch period.. not just launch day.

What was DC launch?

DC\'s best game was Soul Calibur.

Sonic Aventure, Blue Stinger (still an ace game in my mind), NFL2K, Hydro Thunder, and a few other worth mentioning.

SA and Soul Calibur are generally regarded as great, with a few others being solid titles to follow after.

Sega did have the best launch this generation with the XBox as a close second.  I bought Soul Calibur, NFL2K, Sonic Adventure, and Blue Stinger when it came out.  I got my money\'s worth.  The XBox had Halo, Project Gotham, and NFL Fever.  Not exactly the greatest line up, but it outshined the GCN and PS2 lineups by far.  The PS2 didn\'t really have anything spectacular at launch and like everyone said, the GCN mainly had Rogue Leader.  If it launched with SSB:M and Pikmin though, it too would have been an awesome launch.

I agree with the XBOX, Halo wipes the floor with every other game I have played. Put that with Munches and Project Gotham (which I really liked, dont flame me, but I\'m a big fan of arcade racers) and its a clear winner.

but, launches should be compared with what was out at the time..

the PS2 launch could be lackluster mainly cause it was only up against the DC. While the xbox and GCN needed to shine beause they were up against the ps2, and its large collection of 2nd generation games.
Did they really shine? well, not in comparison to the ps2 titles out at that time, which is why the ps2 outsold the xbox and GCN combined.

I would love for you to show me games on PS2 that outshine (I assume you are speaking graphically) Dead or Alive 3, Halo, or Munch...

Also because it had a large library of games and powerful brand recognition.  The latter having a huge influence on consumers...

There is no point in continually bringing this up as it\'s clearly fact and undisputable.  I think you merely post it as a means to start something...

since when do we rank games graphically?

it we gave awards for great graphics yet repetitive gameplay and no replay value, halo would win gold everytime, huh?

Have you actually completed Halo? You do know it got many high marks, awards, and is regarded as the best FPS since Half-Life?

I don\'t even own an X-Box, but I really wish I could play Halo...

yes, i completed halo

even on legendary, even in single player AND co-op

multi player on 1/4 of a TV screen doesnt interest me

so what else is there to do in halo?  nothing.

thats why it collects dust

I recon it\'s pretty hard to say which console had the best launch - IMO, GC\'s wasn\'t the best. I played all the games and can\'t really say that I was very impressed. Didn\'t quite like the feel to RL, but enjoyed more the likes of SMBM and Luigi.

PS2\'s launch was pretty cool.. I mean SSX, Timesplitters and Tekken TAG gave me a blast. What the launch did lack though, was a good racer. So, in my opinion, Xbox had the better launch out of all 3, thanks to Halo and Rallisport/PGR. Dead or Alive 3 is good too, although I can\'t say I\'m a fan of its gameplay.

Launchs: Xbox > PS2 > GCN

Just my opinion though.

I edit posts because you\'re a huge nerd.  I\'m just making sure they reflect that properly.  Only an imbecile like yourself would come in here, look at a person who owns all consoles and enjoys them all equally, and then proceed to call him a Sony fanboy.  Rasta, everyone in here knows your XBox biased, it\'s just sad you don\'t realize it.  You continually post in here, and yet no one listens to a word you have to say.  Why do you stay here then?  If you love TXB so much, then stay there, trust me, none of us will miss you, except of course PSTwo, who loves you for totaly non-game related reasons anyways.  Just go away little troll.  Besides, it\'s fun ridiculing you anyways.  :)

I work at home, what do you do for a living?  So me being here often and me being a mod goes hand in hand.  By the way, me becoming a mod had nothing to do with being "pro PS2" even though I was when the only other console out at the time was a Dreamcast and the XBox was still vaporware.  Those times are long gone though and I now stare at my XBox, although it\'s creating dust, I know I will get great fun out of it come this winter.
