Title: The times are starting to change....
Post by: NPYYZ on June 02, 2002, 11:54:57 AM
Being the owner of the Sega Dreamcast, Nintendo Game Cube,  Playstation 2 , and of course the Xbox, the Xbox being my favorite. I am glad to see that game developers are beginning to realize that the Xbox is the most powerfull console of the group, and they are starting to develop for the Xbox first ,and then port to the others.
Word has it that James Bond 007 Night fire will be made for the 3 top systems but the Xbox version will be made for the Xbox and not ported from the PS2 like agent under fire was. This means a much better looking and playing game. Also Deus EX2 is being developed for the Xbox first and then ported to the other 2 consoles. Finally they are starting to see the light. I new it was just a matter of time. There is good new out there for the Xbox, it just seems no one here wants to admit it. It will only get better.

PS: I am not slamming the other consoles here, I am just posting some good news about the Xbox.

Wow! What a deal MS has got!

Listen to what Fast says. ;)

Most games should be portet from PC to Xbox (or wise versa) since both us DirectX. Performance isn\'t the issue here - obviously you can\'t just  take a game from PS2 and put it on Xbox with the same effort as doing the same from the PC counterpart.

But which versions of a ported game will have the added features, levels, etc.?  True, it\'s nice to get a game a couple months before those who own some other console, but I wouldn\'t be very pleased to get every game first, while the others get the bonuses that make the game more worth its price.

My questions were directed towards NPYYZ, Chrono.  I was referring to games being ported from the Xbox, not to it.

I\'m still not convinced that the Xbox is head-and-shoulders above the GCN/PS2 in overall power.

Like its competition, it specializes in several operations.

However, developers have called the GCN more well-rounded.. leading me to believe that the small gap of overall performance between GCN and Xbox might be smaller than expected. A lot of algorithms are being put to use on GCN now that people thought only Xbox could pull.. like the grass/fur shaders in the new Star Fox.. not to mention the awesome Metroid Prime which runs at twice the framerate of Halo. (in comparatively smaller areas, though)

You\'re basing this off what?  The other games have at least been decent, I would say far from crap...

Regarding Deus Ex 2, I thought I had read that DE2 will come out for Xbox first, PC following, then the other consoles somewhere down the road...?

You know, whenever something came out on PS2 first, then to XBox or GC...all PS2 owners would flaunt how everyone else has to wait and they\'ll be playing something else while everyone else is catching up on yesterday\'s games...typical.

Some of you need to stop with your mindless bashing.  Especially Fastson.  And IMO it doesn\'t make sense to program for XBOX first considering PS2 is the dominant system in this generation.  But you will see xbox\'s power start to be tapped better.

Seeing as how Xbox is developer friendly and powerful, they can code the game for Xbox then easily port it to GC.  PS2 would take the most work to port to or from...but it will eventually get there and sell...

Hmm. I thought it was coming to PC first.. Thats what I heard anyways.
Maybe MS got a time exclusive contract so they are making it for PC/Xbox (same code) then porting it?

WTF, does it even matter anymore, both XB and GCN have no chance of catching up with PS2.  If a developer is wants a crap load of $$$ they will put it on the system with the largest userbase... PS2.

Anyway, X-Box screwed up Morrowind, it was a waste of time, should have been PC only.

Christ who cares anyway.  If the game comes out for both PC and Xbox, whoever gets it first, is it really worth buying an Xbox at all?  Hell no, unless you completely PC illiterate.

I bought PS2 for PS2 games not PC games.  Im probably gonna get GC just for Zelda, Metroid and Smash Brost (and whatever top of the line first party games they may release).

That is Xbox\'s problem.  You can\'t compete with PC gaming on their turf.  And if you\'re gonna try to, at least do it right.

I blame the developers, they bit off more than they could chew...not xbox\'s fault.

From what I hear the game requires a **** load of performance that consoles just don\'t have...

ageed, no console could run morrowind very well
it was an attempt in vain

i just feel that m$ is hurting for any title and they\'ll shove anything they can onto the xbox, which in the long run can hurt them

I think it\'s still to early for people to make true impressions of the console and what it will be...I think that\'s usually something you could conclude by year 2...that\'s just me though.

Everyone system has a tons of games shoved onto it. Ps2 has tons of titles that are just shoved on it. And Ms didn\'t make the game blame the dev\'s.

100% agree. The first games (and good ones) have been ported directly from PC to XBOX or developed by pre-done motors of PC games. When XBOX has 2 years and companies work with other processors... bye Bill.

That could be applied to all consoles after a price drop...so what?

and being that DOA3 is the only game propelling the Xbox in Japan, I would say that\'s damn impressive.

Oh dear, someone is going to have poop flung at them...

Once again, it\'s more X-Box\'s fault then Bethesda\'s.  The game was intended for PC, but $$$ got the best of Bethesda, so they changed it slightly so it would port to XB.

The PC version was great, very stable, addicting(especially for RPG lovers), and beatiful.  The X-Box turned it into a floppy, chugging, lower resolution game,  it\'s sad, X-Box isn\'t state of the art, nor was it ever.

I disagree like earlier...It was Bethesda\'s will to put the game on Xbox.  They coded the game, they ported it, and the final result could be from lazy programming or the Xbox just couldn\'t handle it.  Would you blame the PS2 for a sloppy version of Doom III (you know it wouldn\'t be the same as PC), or the developers?

And what is State of the Art, Billy?

X-Box might ne the most powerful console of this system, but it\'s just not the powerhouse it was cracked up to be.  The fact that it uses mostly computer components is the reason it\'s starting to show it\'s age.

Yes, yes it does!!

I love Gir...

too bad about it though, nickolodeon(sp?) canceled it at one time.  Petitions started up and good results followed, the show was back on, but John Vasquez was pissed.  He made 27 episodes and after that there most likely won\'t be any more...

My favorite episode would have to be the one were Gir becomes the house..."I just love the little tacos, I love them goood!"
