Title: Green Goblin dies in fashion!!
Post by: Hells of d-day on June 02, 2002, 07:55:44 PM
What the hell was with the ending of spiderman, it sucked so much.....it was dramatic, he finally gets the girl but choses to be friends with her, and his best friend wants to kill spiderman....how stupid, other than that the movie was ok!!

C\'mon, use yer brain a little friend.

The sad irony is that everyone he gets close to gets hurt. He does a very noble thing and decides not to get together with MJ. The irony is that he said no not because he doesn\'t love her, but because he loves her so much. Get it?

And whats wrong with what happened w/ GG? FYI, if the movie follows the comic...***Major Spoiler**

He\'s not dead! ;)

*sigh*

HODD, if you knew anything about the comics you\'d know that the movie was doing its best to follow the comic book.

as for Harry wanting to kill Spider-Man...wouldn\'t you want to kill the man who you believe murdered your father who you admired so greatly? c\'mon, think

spoiler for comic book readers (not really but just in case)

As Tom said, he\'s not dead...in the comics the Green Goblin died in the early 60\'s and no one knew he was alive until the early 90\'s.

As for the movie...i\'m pretty sure he\'s dead...unless they want to Batmanize the series and ruin it after the 2nd movie then he may make a come back.

I\'m not sure that they are going by actual date of time in the comics history (I mean it plays a factor but I don\'t think its the biggest one). I just think that when they use whatever villian, they\'re gonna try to stay very true to the villians story line.

Of course they\'re are differences in comic to film.

*Comic/Movie Spoilers*

like with GG, when he takes Mary-Jane in the film to the Brooklyn Bridge to lure SM out. In the comics he kidnapped Peters first girlfriend Gwen Stacy and when SM showed up GG tossed her off the bridge and SM tried to save her with his web.

er...well...he did catch her ankles with the web. But the force of her stopping so fast snapped her neck and killed her.

in the comics, SM chases down the GG and beats him to a pulp but stops realizing that he is about to murder someone...no matter how evil. Then GG summons his glider (like in the movie) and trys to hit SM but ends up taking it in the chest...all though in the comic book the GG\'s glider kept ramming him until it ran out of gas :)

*/end of spoilers*

anyways, in SM2 they\'re thinking of having The Lizard and Doctor Octupus as the villians (Robin Williams was even mentioned to play Dr Octopus :))

Then in SM3 they might bring Harry back as the new Green Goblin (I think Sony believe two goblins in a row might be a little much). Harry was the 2nd Green Goblin in the comics after finding Peters SM costume in his room.

*spoiler as to what happens to Harry as the GG*
If Harry is in the movie they\'ll probably kill him the same way he died in the comics. In the comic book he took A LOT of the Green Goblin formula, so he was super strong. However it also killed him from the inside over time.
*end spoiler*

but of course they\'re still writing the script to SM2 so who knows what\'ll happen.:(

Robin Williams as Doc Ock? That would be so awesome!

Did anybody ever read Spider-Girl? Many years ago (actually 2) I picked up an early SG comic. In it, Peter (who was recently crippled) is training his daughter May (who obviously has Spider powers) to fight "Normie" Osborn. You may remember Normie as being Harry and Liz\'s son. He appaently became the 3rd GG, and the 2 have a big fight, then he ends up in a mental home.

Also, did anyone follow that Green Goblin miniseries that came around a little before the whole Onslaught fiasco? Can anybody explain what happened during that? It was something like a good GG.

yeah SG takes place like 20 years in the future.

and Normie is like the 6th GG (they\'ve had some really gay ones, like Bart Hamilton, Harry\'s therapist  )

neways, it was a good comic book, but I haven\'t kept up on it so I don\'t know if they\'ve ruined it yet....damn Marvel

as for the GG check this site for great info on the GG
http://www.spideykicksbutt.com/
as for the GG mini-series. It wasn\'t really about the GG at all but about Norman Osborn actually. It was perty good IMO

and also the character section of http://www.spiderfan.org has awesome info on most of the characters in the spidey universe.

hope that helps :)

The "hero" GG I was speaking of was Phil Urich- know anything \'bout that?

Post by: Joker on June 02, 2002, 09:46:11 PM
oops :) sorry bout that. Thougt you ment a mini-series about Norman that was written.

as for Phil, he was a pretty big character (story wise, so it\'d take me awhile to type it all out:)) so heres a good article cut and pasted from spiderfan.org

"Phil Urich\'s uncle, Ben, was investigating an old Osborn Industries warehouse, and Phil accompanied him. While the two were searching, a number of hoods jumped Ben. Phil hid, and accidentally stumbled into the secret headquarters of Harry Osborn - the Green Goblin! He backed up into a large cannister full of icky green fluid, and got covered in the highly dangerous Stromm Formula. Knowing his uncle was in trouble, Phil quickly donned the costume and succeeded in scaring off the criminals. Once he had flown back to his apartment, and realized the extent of his actions, he decided it would be cool to keep the Goblin-gear.
At first, Phil became the Green Goblin for kicks, but as time went on, he became confused about what his real purpose was. He had a run-in with the Rhino, and got the best of the grey behemoth. He also teamed-up with the Scarlet Spider to stop the players in "The Great Game", even though he lusted after the malicious lady mercenary, Joystick. The new Goblin intervened on the Hobgoblin while heisting the New York subway "money train". Phil became haunted by all the past Goblin incarnations, from Norman Osborn to Jack Macendale. "Death comes to all who assume the mantle of the Goblin!" they warned him, but he didn\'t listen.

It wasn\'t until the corrupt New York Judge Tomb put a contract on his Uncle\'s life that Phil actually gained a sense of duty toward his newfound identity. With the help of Daredevil, Green Goblin stopped the assassin Purge, gave the not-so-honorable judge a serious warning (he threw Purge\'s arm-mounted cannon through Tomb\'s study window), and began acting like a hero.

However, all the popularity and press Phil gained as the Green Goblin got him more attention than he desired. The widow Liz Osborn engaged the Daily Bugle, hoping to get Ben Urich\'s Green Goblin file to find out who had stolen her husband\'s villan identity. After Phil saved Liz and her son, Normie, from Angel Face and her band of electronic thieves, the widow Osborn gave the new Goblin her blessing!

Subsequently, the Goblin gained a sort of cult following among the younger generation of New Yorker\'s. Many saw him as a renegade hero, a lone-wolf playing by his own rules. GG has gone up against some new foes, including the electronic-thief femme fatale Angel Face, and the armored Steel Slammer."

Who was the first real villian in Spiderman comic/original story?  I know it wasnt Green Goblin, I always thought it was Doctor Octopus (my favorite Spiderman villian).

The first #1 comic book doesnt even have a villian but I read a Stan Lee book "Spiderman" and there it has Dr. Octopus being created the same time Peter Parker gets bitten by the spider.  It actually gets tied in very well.  But I think thats a modified original story as well.

Anyway my problems with the movie:

1.  MJ was a stupid whiny ditz and basically waste of screen time.  Halfway through the movie anytime I saw a scene with her coming up, I would start falling asleep.

2.  Spidey\'s web mechanism was completely wrong.  It was mechanical and made by Peter and not natural.  And actually this plays a big part and I think they made a mistake with that.

3.  MORE ACTION :D

But really it was a great flick and I think they did a great job with most of the characters.  JJ was hysterical.

And doesnt Harry\'s son become the Hob Goblin or is that an alternate story

Harry\'s son never becomes one of the Hob Goblins (he\'s not old enough) maybe he did as you said in an alternate story or something like that, but never in the main story.

Spider-Man first appeared in a comic book called Amazing Fantasy #15. Which simply told the story of mild high school student turned superhero:) its worth around 50 thousand dollars when in good condition.

As for who the first villian ever was? It was the Chameleon (amazing spider-man #1). The second was The Vulture and a villian named The Terrible Tinkerer (amazing spider-man #2). Doc Ock was next in line as a villian (amazing spider-man #3). The Green Goblin did not appear until the Amazing Spider-Man #14. Its value also stretches into the ten thousands margin, as does the others I listed cause well obviously number 1 is worth a lot of money.

But numbers 2 and 3 would usually only be worth a couple hundred dollars simply because they are 2 and 3. But since they introduce The Vulture and Doc Ock, they are worth into the ten thousands margin aswell.

a brief glimpse at Doc Ocks history...

Strength Level: Each arm can lift up to 3 tons assuming he is adequately braced with one or more remaining arms.
Powers: No innate powers.
Abilities: With the use of his arms, Ock can move very quickly, and climb almost any surface. Worlds leading authority on nuclear radiation and its effect on animal physiology. A brilliant engineer and inventor, he is also a superb strategist and a charismatic leader.
Equipment: Various purpose-built devices.
Weapons: None.
Limitations: Slightly mad. Had a phobia about Spider-Man for quite some time.

Dr Octopus did not appear until  the Amazing Spider-Man #3

he was killed in the Spectacular Spider-Man #221

and was re-born in Amazing Spider-Man #426
