Title: I got a question...
Post by: Psycomantis101 on June 04, 2002, 01:35:56 PM
If there were a hole in the earth that went from the north pole to the south pole and you jumped in what would happen. Lets forget about burning to death. The question at hand is if you would come out the other end or not. I was thinking that once you got past the center you would slow down and then be pulled back to the center because gravity pulls everything in. My science teacher asked me this today and i jus started to think about it.:nerd:

That would defy relativity

well i dont know anything about physics but if the gravity of earth all forced down on the center point...  you would get stuck in the middle.

id sy get stuck half way. but i dunno, i mean you would prob hit the sides as the world is spinning. i don think thisq could be properly awnsered

I think you would be pulled back to the middle like a giant bungee rope - yo-yo effect!

I think you will get crushed by gravity.

More than likely, you will be killed by magma, however.

I got a question.  What is light?

Assuming you don\'t die, of course...

I\'m not really sure.  I guess it all depends on if the momentum you gather while falling is enough to help you escape the gravitational pull enough to come out the other side.  Ask me again in a year, after I finish physics.

That I actually can answer...if I can remember that is.

It\'s energy being released.  It\'s given off, for example, when an electron in an excited state in an atom falls back to its original position.  I could explain more, but I\'d have to get out my chem notes to do so.

Usually about 20% less fat than full flavored product. Usually by substituting Meat with Soy, Sugar with Sacrin, and cuttin out all excess fat off the the stock with the product is made out of.

lol I was wondering if someone would say something like that.

If you fell in a hole in the earth you will probably die due to the speed you would reach near the centre of the planet. It\'s the gravity.

Lets try it. *Grabs a spoon and starts digging*

i think that if someone was to fall through the hole they might get stuck in the middle but since gravity is at its strongest at the earths core that person would be crushed in an instant

Ok, let\'s say this then.  What if you were to throw a highly concentrated metal ball of sorts down the hole?  What would happen to it, assuming it doesn\'t melt?

It\'d stop in the middle.

Gravity is the law that if any 2 objects are floating & free of resistance they will be atracted to each other.  I\'m not sure if the gravity is any stronger at the center of the earth, but the lack of centrifugal force is what makes it seem like there\'s more gravity. (I\'m not positive on any of this)

So I think the Metal Ball would go to the center and then stick to the side of the tube.
