psx2central\'s forums are evolving. there\'s no way to avoid, deny, or stop it.
considering I\'ve been here since the beginning, i\'ve seen quite a few ups and downs.
nothing usually suprises me, except lately the state of console debating. it has turned into IGN style over the months.
there\'s no point in naming names, or pointing fingers. we\'re all too blame. sure, people will bash certain consoles, and others find some innate offense to that. while others, do what they do, just for fun.
i thought of closing console debating a long time ago, but it seemed to be too popular, even too myself. plus, i liked to isolate all that heat into one forum.
then Ryu posted his idea and thoughts in the staff forum

You know, CD has been getting out of hand. I like going there a lot, and I love the great debates, but the casual thread closings and telling people to cool off isn\'t working. So, I propose this idea:
How about we close and archive Console Debating. In its place, make a board that promotes multiple console discussions. The debates can still be there, but the talk would still be allowed. There are lots of multi-console owners on here and since they frequent CD the most out of all others, we should take that into account so we can encourage the discussion of multiple platforms rather then the ridicule or debate of them.
Name the new board Multiple Console Discussion and lock off the CD board and make it hidden or seen, whatever, or an archive, so that way no one will lose posts... or if you can delete it without all of us losing our posts, that\'d be great too. Either way, it\'d be a nice new fresh start for us all. I think it\'s just what we need to rejuvinate that area of the board. I\'ll even write the rules for the board and sticky em as the first topic. I\'d love to undertake this project, especially since this area of the forums is the domain i live in.
yet another reason why Ryu has always been as asset here.
two weeks, and this goes into effect.
please save yer "this is gonna suck" or "i dont see the point" of this, cause frankly, we don\'t care

It\'s not that I find it offensive when someone bashes a certain console. It\'s just man the same ppl bash the same thing over and over and over and over again. And the sad thing is the consoles are great. And week after week the same thing is bashed. If I say something I am in the wrong.
If every week I say ps2 is overhyped garbage and every ps2 thread I said a negative comment about ps2 how would that look? I mean if you don\'t like xbox, or gcn why post in those kind of threads in the console debate forum just to bash the console? If you don\'t like xbox stay out of xbox post. If you don\'t gcn stay out of gcn post.
I have no problem with anyone not liking certain consoles I could careless. It\'s just when the same none-factual points are bashed over and over it just gets annoying.
The new Idea sounds great:)

better yet, why dont the people who whine about people bashing the xbox try hanging out at some other illustrious xbox forum we like to make fun of.
i\'ve seen many xbox threads closed cause of mindless bashing or blatent abuse. so its not like we tolerate it.
you dont think the xbox zealots here feed the fire, so to speak?
regardless, i\'d like to see some changes completed

I find it annoying as well. I agree that I sometimes take the bashing too seriously as do others.
Then I think to myself, we are talking about video games and this is supposed to be fun.
I\'m trying to do that more often.

Those are valid points and you can argue them. And those are debates you\'ve argued MM. And there is nothing wrong with that and I don\'t have a problem with you bringing up or saying you are discussed by them.
I was refering to these type
Xbox is just a pc.
Xbox is stupid because it has pc architecture.
XBox is nothing but a big bulk box.
Comments simular to those are posted and left as being factual, by people who don\'t even own one.

Yes constructive criticsm more people need to learn what that is. There is a way to dislike something without destroying it.
People don\'t know how to say they don\'t like something with out degrading it.

And I am just starting to see where you where coming from with the bitter part. And now I understand. I have gotten so bitter I had to bus out my cousins dc to get me back enthusiactic about games.

I wonder how it will be different though, you don\'t think it will just turn into console debating again. I mean, the mentallity is already there. This is a pro PS2 site...wants to see rules

exactly quddus, i get bored with games WAY too fast
perhaps owning all these consoles has shortened my attention span
i havent even finished RE remake on my GC (blade would be pissed). i got bored and havent touched it since
same with FFx, even *gasp* GTa3
the only thing i play religiously anymore is my beloved DC

That\'s great :) It happens to be my fav. forum.
Hey what about this? Off-Topic is filled with NOTHING but Spam these days. There is an occasional intelligable topic that will always be filled with mre spam than well written, intelligent replies. I say we burn it, get rid of it, and tell all the members to get Instant messengers so they can chat in there.. :rolleyes:

While I like Ryu\'s idea, I\'m leaning towards mm\'s idea. Let the ones who want to argue, argue: the one\'s who want to discuss, well that\'s another forum...
The mods would take a big part in directing the traffic if some one were to wander.
the biggest problem in CD is the mix...some people just want to discuss while others would rather rant (don\'t look at me!!).
Console debating is a popular part of the site, it just needs some fixing up...

People are always going to be lame*points at Ashford*;) The new forum will encourage people to think before they reply. I think it will be better. A new color scheme would help to seperate it from the old CD forum.

I like the second idea mm;
splitting the debate forum into 2 forums would be good, because there are quite a lot of people that enjoy talking about games on all consoles - yet there are also quite a lot that enjoy debating. Splitting it up would have the great advantage that those who can\'t see that bashing/debating anymore can visit the "console discussion" forum.

Having a place to promote multi console stuff would be great. I like to keep in touch with the things going on in GC and Xbox land however I am far too lazy to look for these news myself. And console debating always turn other console news into something like this:
"Screenshot of a new Xbox game, looks pretty good.
First reply: looks nice
2nd: pffft my GC could do that.
3rd: your GC sucks mario\'s balls
4th: You suck man I\'ll kill you
5th: my ps2 will kill this game, then kill you guys.

The split would probably be the best idea. Nothing will stop people from being ****s, but at least we can keep those ****s confined to one space and let those who want to discuss multi consoles peacefully can visit another area. The point is, is to let people have a second chance. To, wipe the slate clean as it were. People will enjoy the change. It\'ll be an empty board, both of them will be. How we build it with our threads will be how it gets shaped in the future. I encourage everyone to prepare threads for then because we\'ll only move a select few into the new board(s) when the changes occur.

I dont think it will be very successful. Essentially all you are doing is changing the name and inforcing new rules. If you want action you have to start banning people. You tried to inforce rules in Console Debating, they were broken. Now your soution is to change the name and be less leniant on the rules. well instead of changing the name why dont you just be harder and harsher when inforcing the rules.?

New multi console section? Sounds good. I only have a ps2 now but my birthday is coming up in August so I might get myself an Xbox or gamecube. (MY BIRTHDAY IS COMING UP RYU GET ME A NEW CONSOLE!!!! :mad: ) Hehe it\'ll be interesting to see how the new Multi Console section will start off. I\'m all for it . W00t :eek:

I called console debate a waste of time and enrgy months ago
failed to see the point to even go into that lame forum. ALl anyone did was attack each other or spend precious time on 3+ page deabtes with replies that we\'re 10+ paragraphs long
it became a huge joke, and yet I was the idiot for mentioning this FACT
but anyways I do not see a console friendly forum making a bit of difference cause there will always be people who have to belittle one console while praising another and this gets on peoples nerves
but I do agree debate needs to be canned, we know all the answers now lets just enjoy the games

See I don\'t like the splitting idea because debating and discussion is the same exact thing. It\'s the flaming and mindless bickering that has to go.
But whatever we all decide is cool with me, we\'ll see how it turns out later.

I like the idea of spitting it into debating and discussion but if you are debating with someone in the debating forum you can\'t go into the discussion forum and carry your debate over.
I say try splitting them and if that doesn\'t work the debate forum can always be eliminated.

I\'m neutral on this. It\'s got its advantages. All the ass holes will still be in one spot but eventually, they will find where the peaceful discussions are and go there too. But it will be a while before they do. I haven\'t been in CD for a long time but that\'s because of all the flamming and crap. It\'s a good idea, really, it is but eventually the peaceful discussions will be found out.
