visit these three sites to see just what it like to be a fan of the most pathetic team in the world
http://www.cubs.com
http://www.firebaylor.com
http://www.dumptoddhundley.com
*update*the fire don baylor page has been change if you wanna see what i was talking about you can go there now
-
but they won last night
-
5 to 1 in 10 innings, Moises Alou DID SOMETHING! Woo!
Bere actually pitched well, Quevedo pitched better. Cubs lose the series, but get \'some\' momentum going into Seattle...that ought to be interesting.
Go Cubs, baby...still goona win the Central :-D
See Yuz.
-
i was so proud of moises last night... we could just see how little confidence he has while he was walking up to the plate. the game was on his shoulders and we knew he wasnt comfortable.
after fouling off 2 pitches that would have been balls i said to my friend ryan "moises aint gonna do anything here" and turned around to my puter to continue wth my game of baldurs gate.
then i heard ryan say "GODDAM MOISES"!
i turn around and see him ruhnning to second with a big smile on his face.
i swear if moises can pull it together like mcgriff is doing the cubs can go on a serious tear... like13 out of 15 or something.
also jar the don baylor page doesnt work
also jar your an idiot
-
On those last three statements - Yeah, Alou had best get it back together...9 mil a year for what he\'s been doing previous to yesterday, not acceptable. Then again, we\'re payin\' 6.5 for Todd, so yeah. 2nd statement, Works for me, No real rants, though, the Hundley page was better. 3rd Satement - Yes, you are completely right.
Then again, it pisses me off when Red Sox Fans ***** about their team being worse than the Cubs. Hell, they won one in 1918, 12 years after the Cubs won their last one. Who did they BEAT in the 1918 Series? The Chicago Cubs. Christ.
See Yuz.
-
I\'m not a Cubs fan, but Moises Alou is my favorite player and I\'m startin to feel bad for the cubbies. Hopefully he\'ll start playin like his usual self soon
-
ok so the don baylor page was up about 2 hours ago so it must have gotten taken down for some reason but it was good stuff belive you me
-
I saw it, and the June 5th rant was right. Pull Mark Bellhorn after he hits a grand slam? God. It\'s just frustrating. The pitching changes he makes can be unbelievable, too. Though, with Farnsworth back (Thank god), he\'s got some more options.
See Yuz.

at one point baylor benched corey patterson 2 games in a row.
his explanation?
"corey hasnt been hitting lefties like we want him to"
WTF!!!!
HES 21 YEARS OLD, HES ONE OF THE BEST HITING PROSPECTS IN BASEBALL!
jesus... that put it over the edge for me, i cant stand baylor anymore.
-
He\'d rather be playing Damiam Lewis in Center rather than Cory...it\'s ridiculous. I\'m startin\' to like Bobby Hill a lot, though. That man gets on base a LOT. Granted, it results in a double play half the time, but if we got a good leadoff man, then Cory hittin\' in the 2 slot, with Sosa at 3? And everybody gets hot? Could be a fun summer for the Cubs :)
See Yuz.

im starting to get the feeling that there arent many cubs fans here
luckee you from chicago you cubs or soxs
-
I\'m a Cubs fan...they just **** up half the time.
And I\'m not from Illinois, so, meh.

and why would you think there are alot of cubs fans here? alot of the people here arent even from the US.
jesus, i was surprised we had like 4... the cubs arent the only team in baseball you know....
and whats a soxs?
-
white sox loser
and i thought there would be more because every time the cubs go on the road they always have the shot of the huge group of mindless cubs fans jumping and cheering like theyre actually gonna win the game
god i hate you
Edit:i guess you dont pluralize sox do you oh well im a dummy and youre still a loser
-
Calm Down, just Relax.
...CUBS TO WIN THE CENTRAL! DEATH TO ANYBODY WHO THINKS OTHERWISE! *runs*
-
lol...it wouldn\'t bother me any if the Cubs won their division, or the Astros since they always choke in the playoffs against the Braves. Woo ha Braves in first place, and the pitching is starting to come around. GO BRAVES!
-
2-peat for the D-Backs!!! Or not, but you know. Have any of you heard of Junior Spivey? He\'ll be one of the best 2nd basemen in a couple years. He\'s batting .327 this year.
As for the Cubs....what happened to them? Last year they were running with the D-Backs then they fall off the map. Maybe this year they\'ll do the opposite, suck at the beginning and do good at the end.
-
Anyone who hasn\'t heard of Junior Spivey deserves to be shot, any Fantasy Baseball Players, anyway.
Cubs will come back strong in the 2nd half. Anyone who thinks otherwise is quite dumb. Our Bullpen is finally starting to get healthy again. Losing Farnsworth and Gordon killed, but once we get them both back, we\'re goona kick all ass.
See Yuz.

First of all, what was the point of making a thread simply for the purpose of bashing a team and its fans? The Cubs are a damn good team, even if their record doesn\'t show it. Alou will come around, it\'s just a matter of time. They have a lot of really strong young talent, and they will only get better. They are a better team to be fans of than about half the other teams out there.
Most pathetic team in the world? Hardly. Let me name teams I would rather be a cubs fan than a fan of: The Devil Rays, The Blue Jays, The Orioles, The Tigers, The Royals, The Rangers, The Expos, The Phillies, The Marlins, The Pirates, The Brewers, The Padres, etc. The Cubs have a bright future, and a ton of tradition.
In conclusion: Jar, you are an ass
Anyway, Jamas, I would not say that it\'s worse to be a Cubs fan than a Sox fan. Why? Because it hurts more to come that close and fail, than to not come close. Ask Bill Buckner. There\'s a reason why Boston has the most bitter fans in baseball.
The Cubs should come back strong. They had a lot of injuries, and are dealing with a lot of slumps. Those are all things you get over.
Unfocused: Braves suck. When Alomar starts playing like...well...Alomar, watch out.
Fayded: D-Backs suck. God other guys.

jar is a huge cubs fan... hes just a little down on em lately.... as am i.

Just cause they beat the Yankees. That was the greatest sports moment ever.
James, do you have Spivey on your fantasy team?
-
Hey, I\'m a Mets fan. Besides, the greatest moment in that series came in the bottom of the ninth in game five. We all know it.
And James has lot\'s of fantasy teams. So, yeah.

my conclusion is you are an asshole and dont know how to read ive been a huge cubs fan for all my 22 years ive earned the right to bash them and the fans who dont care about the garbage they put on the field every year
call me an ass boy i oughta whoop you
-
Well why not say you\'re a Cubs fan then? Otherwise, it looks like you\'re just randomly bashing a team.
And I still don\'t think they have a bad team at all. They really do have a very talented club, whether they\'ve played like it or not.

That was a f*cking fluke, anybody could win 4 games in the world series with schilling and johnson, it wont happen this year though the yankees are a better hitting team, they just plain sucked last year i think through the whole playoffs they hit like 234 or something.
-
It was a fluke was it? Give the team credit, the deserved to win. What was the score in the series, like 20 somethin to 8? Got lucky...hah. If anyone got lucky it was the Yankees...winning those 2 games ok Byung Hyun Kim in the bottom of the 9th. I can see it one night, but not the next. THAT\'S a fluke. The D-Backs also beat Rivera, the best closer in the game, in the bottom of the 9th.
Your forgetting that Miguel Batista pitched an awesome game 3 in NY, the D-Backs lost that game by one I believe.
Johnson and Schilling also pitched a hell of alot of innings in the first 2 rounds too. Says something about arguably the 2 best pitchers in the league.
Fluke my ass.
-
The D-Backs could only win when they pitched Johnson or Schilling. That says something. If the series was a number of games in which they had to win with another pitcher to win it, they might not have been so lucky.
And how is rallying for a win against Kim luck, but doing the same against Rivera isn\'t?
-
Rivera is alot better than Kim, or was last year. Rivera had something like a .032 ERA in the playoffs. I said i could see the Yankees pulling one off against the D-Backs in the bottom of the 9th, not two. That was a fluke. Sure, it might have been a fluke that the D-Backs beat Rivera in the 9th of game 7, but not as lucky as the Yankees winning two games in a row after rallying against Kim in the 9th.
Your right, it does say something that the D-Backs could only win with Schilling on the mound, it says that they are two of the top 3 pitchers in the league.
-
It also says that they have no depth beyond that. If it were an nine game series, and they had to throw out two other pitchers for games 8 and 9, it would be a different story.
And Rivera is better than Kim. Kim made bad pitches. It wasn\'t a fluke, it was good play by the Yanks, and bad play by Kim. Homeruns aren\'t flukes.
-
Miguel Batista isn\'t bad, and Brian Anderson pitched a good game in NY.
I know BHK gave them some meatballs. But still, what are the odds that a team can rally in the 9th two days in a row and win? Admit it, the D-Backs winning the World Series wasn\'t a fluke. Just because they don\'t have many big name players doesn\'t mean they aren\'t good.
-
I think it is a fluke, simply because I think they couldn\'t do it again this season. They are good, but not that good. It was just one of those everything coming together at the right time things. They got hot at the right time, and that carried them through the series.
-
They\'re the best team in the NL...so i don\'t see why they can\'t do it again. If they have to pitch the hell out of Johnson and Schilling again, so be it. Do whatever it takes to win.
The D-Backs are:
2nd in the NL in batting average. Behind Colorado. 8th in the league.
1st in the NL in slugging percentage. 4th in the league.
3rd in the NL in hits. 9th in the league.
1st in the NL in runs. 7th in the majors.
As you can see, the D-Backs got some offense this year. While their pitching has slacked off a little bit, they can still get some good innings from Batista and Anderson.
They\'re better than you give them credit for.
-
I just still don\'t see them winning it again. We\'ll see though.
-
I have a feeling they won\'t win it either. But they\'re good enough to win it.
-
Aaaaand...just to give more evidence that it wasn\'t a fluke...
The D-Backs beat the Yankees in every major hitting and pitching catagory during the 2001 season.
Batting average they tied
D-Backs won:
Slugging percentage
OBP
Hits
Runs
ERA
Hits
Runs
K\'s
Fluke? I think not.
-
I go see Star Wars again and this is what happens. Blah.
Alright, first off, it all seems like we\'re Cubs supporters to a point (Tony, yes, root for the Cubs, that\'s good...you hate all of my other teams :P). The Cubs are goona come back, and that\'s the way it is. For those of you 22 year fans (Jar), ya gotta look back at the good ****, like when we had Maddux and The Zim as the manager, you know, the good (bad) ol\' days.
Oh, and the D-backs would NOT have beaten the Yankees with a Game 8 or 9. If Kim comes through, the D-Backs win that series in 5 or 6 games. Miguel Bautista and Brian Anderson pitched GEMS against the Yankees during that series. Kim blew both games. Game 7 came down to a bit of luck. Mark Grace (CUBS!) Leads off the bottom of the 9th with a single. That\'s luck? Grace, in his day, was one of the biggest clutch hitters in his day. Ahh, I still can\'t forget his patented doubles down the 1st base line in Wrigley, those were absolutely great. Rivera blows the play at 2nd, ****ed that up right good. That play at 2nd in a sense cost the Yankees more than anything. They get that out, you got a runner on 1st with 1 out. The game would probably go to the 10th.
Personally, I don\'t really think the Yankees care about that. You win 2 or 3 in a row, and things come easy. Somebody had to dethrone them, glad it was in the World Series, and not some other AL Team that would beat the NL Champs. That would have sucked.
Go NL, and GO CUBS.
See Yuz.

I already told you what my definition of fluke is, and this doesn\'t fit it. Do you ever listen?
And James...um...we both like team USA in the World Cup!
-
No...you didn\'t exactly give a definition of a fluke. You said the D-Backs wouldn\'t have won without Schilling or Johnson (which they wouldn\'t have). Just like the Lakers wouldn\'t be in the NBA finals without Shaq or Kobe. But those stats show it wasn\'t a fluke that they won the World Series.
-
Yeah, it was a fluke that they made it. They shouldn\'t have even been there. If they would have met the Cubs in the playoffs? Cubs would have taken them in 5 games, no contest :-D
See Yuz.
-
I told you, I\'m not basing it on stats, I\'m basing it on if I think they can win again this year. I don\'t think they can. They can prove me wrong, but I still believe that they won\'t win it again this year, and that they were a fluke. Read a little more closely next time.
-
I think this pretty much says it all by Baylor:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=chc
Christ. "Blame Me". Well, no ****, Don. That entire ESPN Cubs Section is basically about Baylor ****in\' up.

well i must say that i was very impressed with the cub against the mariners taking 2 out of 3 and holding ichiro to 1for12 but you win a series like that and procced to go down to houston and lose the first game thats a game that you should win i hate how these guys show sparks of greatness then get killed the next day its either be real good or real bad at least then i know what to expect

Yeah the same exact thing can be said about Chipper Jones too, so that argument doesn\'t exactly work.

Yeah, I thought they should have won, too. Miller just comin\' off the DL and Kerry being as hot as he was on the road. But, Wood wasn\'t on his game early on, and Miller was. Looked pretty good when Patterson made it a 1 run game, but Berkman\'s shot hurt. That, and the ump had a strike zone as wide as a truck in the Top of the 9th. Those calls against Alex Gonzalez were ridiculous.
Oh well, Bere\'ll get them today, he\'s actually been pitching well lately, the wins just aren\'t there :-P

God, I hate the Yankees and their late game homers. Brenly made a bad decision (he rarely does) by putting in Prinz. He has like a 10.7 ERA. That guy SUCKS to say the least. He\'s gettin moved back to the minors where he belongs. But still, he gave Johnson a lose he didn\'t deserve. Bah.

IU was just sitting here checking the new messages and thinking. Remember Andre Daweson and Ryan Sandberg?
-
Andre Dawson...sadly, I was too young to really get to know him.
Ryne Sandberg? That man ruled. Best 2nd baseman the Cubs could have possibly ever had, simply amazing.
God, the Cubs have had some good players...Santo, Banks, Sandberg, Grace. Hall of Fame infield right there :)

Damn Straight...even better as an announcer, though. You can \'kind of\' tell what he\'s thinkin\' when he\'s doin\' those games. Hah, Brant Brown\'s drop that almost cost the Cubs the playoffs in 1998 "OHHH NOOOO!"...
...At least we didn\'t blow it :P

Oh yeah, Cubs win 9 to 5...Todd Hundley did something again! Amazing!
-
5-4 loss yesterday cubs left the bases loaded in the top of the 9th
do they just not want me to be fan what the hell is with pinch hitting for patterson in the 9th he is the 2nd best bat in the lineup right now so what if he doesnt hit lefties well he still a good hitter no we need darren lewis in there god i hate darren lewis i hate evey bench player the cubs have except for augie i love that little guy
and what with sending bobby hill down thats such B.S.
yea lets send down our young great fielding .182 2hr 2nd baseman witth lots of potential and bring up our old ok fielding .186 2hr 2nd baseman in delino deshields cause hes so much better
god i hate this team
-
when i saw baylor pinch hit for patterson in the 9th, i lost what little respoect i had for him.

Last year....
Alomar had 20 HRs...100 RBIs....Walked 80 times...and had a .336 batting average
Chipper had 38 HRs...102 RBIs.... Walked 98 times and had a .330 batting average.
So explain to me how he was "far better than Chipper".
-
Throw in some other stuff though. Alomar stole 21 more bases, struck out less, and fielded better. Oh well, he\'s better, but maybe I shouldn\'t have said far better.
