Title: Final Fantasy online anyone (No Thanks)!!
Post by: Ethan_Hunt on June 12, 2002, 04:51:49 AM
Ok when i heard about Final Fantasy online, i thought yeah i will give that ago, i have only really played one final fantasy game to the full, an dthat was FF10, so i was looking forward to the next one, but......

Have a read through what Gamespot had to do to get to play the game online!!

I am not going anywhere near this game, as i only have 56k at the mo,(hopefully ADSL soon), and they had those download times on a T1 connection!!!!(all will become clear once you read the link)

You also have to install the game to the harddrive, and then start the game with out it in the disk tray, i don\'t want a bloody PC i have one of those, what where squaresoft thinking of!!
Anyway that is enough of me, have a read through, as i want to see what you guys think!!

CLICK HERE MONKEY BOY- LOL (http://gamespot.com/gamespot/stories/previews/0,10869,2870312,00.html)

See ya
Ethan_Hunt

P.S I know that they are trying to connect to japanese servers, but it isn\'t just that, i just don\'t like the sound of the way the game has been setup.

From what I heard from the preview, its worth it.

One important note, the game is 5 gigabites...more then flightsimulator 2002...now that is big

so this is Japan..

why wont you go anywhere near the game??

and its common knowledge you need to HDD..

all major MMORPG\'s have problems initially (Square still fuct up tho).. but all these connection and download problems are completely unrelated to what will happen when you try and start the game.. YOURE IN A DIFFERENT COUNTRY

Bobb-o\'s completely right. You\'re in a different country, with months of development time between this and the US version. You\'re probably not going to have these problems in the US version.... You\'ll have a shytlist of whole new problems. :p

Anyhow, puttin the game on the PS2 HDD is a bad.. BAD.. idea from a security standpoint. Sure, it makes the game easier to patch.. it also makes it easier to crack as well. Who was it who said.. "If it can be made, it can be understood. If it can be understood, it can be changed. If it can be changed, it will be."

Still, even with security seemly comprimised and an hour of installation (+20 mins of updating), I\'ll still end up owning this game. I\'ve got a lot of friends who\'ll I\'ll be meeting up with on FF:XI and as far as PS2 games go.. it looks to be the best MMORPG option out there. The only question now is...

Which will I end up playing more? FF:XI or PSO Ep 1 & 2???

Thanks for the replys, i didn\'t think anyone would see it the same way as me, considering this is a PS2 forum!:D (i am looking at the whole picture, oh you haven\'t got time for the picture,ok :D )

But hey that is the way i feel about the game, and i don\'t like the feel of it, it is not a console game to me, the reason i brought a console is so that i didn\'t have to start doing all this crap to play a game, i have had enough years of this with a PC, i don\'t want to have to start installing games to hard drives, and no wonder the HDD is so big, if one game 5 gig!
But let hope they do sort the game out for other contries, hey maybe in the UK it will ber out in 2005 if we are lucky, hopefully we won\'t have to download any stuff lol

I can\'t wait for final fantasy 110 you get to live in the world yourself lol, when do you think they will stop the FF series??

Someone who only played one ff game to the full, what does his review matter?  he never liked it.

Just like someone who\'s only played one console.

Your opinion on anything else doesn\'t matter.

Awww Bob.. of course I\'ll wait on you. You know you\'ll always be my Final Fantasy. ;) *tweaks his nipples* Sorry Sammy, I\'m already spoken for.

:p

Now that I\'ve thouroughly grossed everyone out.. including Bob.. I jus thought I\'d say that if this game is even 1/10th as addictive and fun as PSO has been.. then that 1 & half hour of instillation time is nothing. I\'ve got over 4000 hours combined on PSO.. I think I can muddle through installing this one game. Tho I don\'t wanna make it a habit, I don\'t necessarilly think it\'s THAT big of a deal either.

Ashford.. I don\'t know WHY you\'re the only person I\'ve been having problems meeting up with online.. but something\'s going on here. I never have any problems meeting up with mah friend Amy. Then again, if you were asian and had a great set of boobies, a tight a$$, and a flirtatious personality things might be different. :p I\'ve been checking in on Europa 1-1 thru 1-3 several times every night and I\'ve yet to see you online. I\'ll keep checking, but if you happen to stumble onto Cordella 9-1, Oberon 1-1 (I like living dangerously), or Miranda 7-1.. that\'s usually where you\'ll find me.

You could also set up your User Search options. I\'ll have Mana set up with certain info. Class: FOnewearl, LvL: 110, Player Sex: Male, Player Age: 22.. and that should be all you need to help find me.

Speakin of my characters: Look for me on FFXI when it comes out as...

Tesla: Hume Male.. Fighter(Paladin)/Red Mage
Mana: Mithra Female..  Red Mage/Black Mage
Sinue: Hume (or Elvvan) Female.. Fighter/Barbarian

If this game was spectactular, i soppose that i might get it, i have a cable modem so it will make dl times better.  The fee wouldnt bother me as long as they kept the gaming new.  The only "beef" i have with square would be the charging of $1 per character.  I mean i know it is only $1 but come on, at least let us do a trial and error to find out which kind of people we like.

I read the article a few days ago and frankly I just don\'t see the problem. If you were interested in playing to begin with, a set up hassel is no big deal, even if part of the problem had nothing to do with it being an initial server setup for Square and the added problem of trying to tie in from outside of Japan, which I\'ve heard is definately a rough spot. I\'ll wait for a few reports on how it plays at 56k in the U.S. before giving it a try but nothing I\'ve read so far would hinder me.

I am really going off of these forums agian, because of people like you, when you can\'t put something construtive together to post, which is a shame because i use to spend alot of time here.

What are you going on about you really are a fool.
I have 25 PS2 games, and just because i say i don\'t like 1 PS2 game, you say i bash the PS2, what are you on about, the PS2 has some awesome game i.e DMC, Onimusha, Z.O.E, GTA3, vf4, Tekken 3., so that is one of your comments completely void, and as for the first comment, when did i say i am leaving? You really think someone like you will make me leave? Well think agian!!!

Right back to the reason i made this thread, FF online, what do all the real FF fans think of this game, what are your feelings, does all the setting up bother you, or is it something you will over look, just so you can play the next game in the series?
I really hope they do sort some of the issues out before it is released in other countries, because i would give it a bash, just to play along side some of you guys from here, but i will only play if i have BB by then.
I wonder if you will be able to rent the game?
Another thing i wonder if your mate buys the game, and you install it to your HDD, i wonder if you can both play, so you only have to buy one of the game?

Over and Out

"Just to play the next in the series..." To me, FFXI isn\'t the next in the series, it\'s a damn sidestep from what FF is, and should\'ve been an individual game titled by the lines of "FFOnline" or something. If they work out the problems and the game really starts gaining momentum, count me in. That installation procedure doesn\'t seem as bad as some people make it, it will be a fraction of the time dedicated people will spend with the game anyhow :)

even 100 year old donkey poo

but joking aside i rather like the idea of kicking some American Butt on FF online.

I agree with you Hawke, i think that if Square had advertised it as there big new online game, under a different game, then they might have pulled in a few more customers, because people would want to play a NEW square series. Everyone knows what FF is like, there is no surprize there!
And if they do work out the problems then it won\'t be as bad, the only reason i was saying about the downloads, is that in the UK alot of people still only have 56k( including me, but hopefully not for that long), they downloaded that on a T1 connection, and it still took them 30 mins.
But as i said hopefullly that will all be on the disk when you get it, i wonder why they didn\'t put it on the disk in the first place?
But it still does surprize me that they didn\'t sell that many copies of the game, considering the BIG fan base for FF on japan, maybe Online gameing isn\'t the next step for consoles, or maybe not in japan, as i heard that there Net setups are abit more complicated then in the US and UK.

FFXI requires an addon (Modem adapter) .. and another, much more expensive addon (Hard Drive)..

Plus the fact that Sony ran out of Hard drives (why buy the game if you cant play it)

Plus the fact that Japanese dont like online RPG\'s

Everybody who will play this game will be well aware that it is already a completely different game. Why?   Because no \'casual\' gamers who hasnt done any research is going to buy a damned $100 add on (Hard drive) So therefore "everyone knows what FF is like" is sompletely irrelevant because its NOT like other FF\'s.. real time battles etc.etc.  HUGE changes.

Ok.. I just bought FFXI, but I don\'t have a phone line in my room, nor a broadband connection..  Stupid? Perhaps.

One thing I did find out though.  If you have a separate modem, then you can use a dial up connection to get yourself connected to FFXI.  However they do warn you that some patches and upgrades will take ages to load on a dial up.  I wonder how the lag is going to be.

Anyhoo, this sux.  I can\'t even install PlayOnline without the darn connection.  Can\'t even use the FFXI disc without installing PlayOnline.  And all I wanted to do was watch some intro movies!!!

Oh yeah, and this was from a different thread, but there\'s a lot of people that I know of in American that has the game and are playing it.  I emailed a friend of mine at a import game shop, and he told me what\'s up.
