I\'m loving every min of this game! This is the most open adventure game I\'ve ever played! WOOOO!! I\'m a Dark Elf, Warrior class with a birthsign of Mage. Got some cool armor and weapons now. Anyone pick it up? :D
Morrowind for the Xbox represents an unprecedented accomplishment. It\'s simply one of the biggest video games ever released. It exists today only because it\'s been in development for years, long before the Xbox system was ever unveiled. As the third installment in an ambitious and long-running computer role-playing series, Morrowind always promised to be a game of epic proportions. You\'d be able to play it however you wanted to: go anywhere, do anything. You\'d choose your own adventure and see everything through the eyes of the character you created. Make no mistake, Morrowind has next to nothing in common with Japanese RPGs like the Final Fantasy series, in which you\'re more of a spectator than an active participant in the storyline.
There\'s a very different approach here. Open-ended gameplay is the lofty goal that many computer RPGs strive for yet unsurprisingly fall short of. But Morrowind doesn\'t fall short. Upon its release in May, the highly anticipated PC version received widespread acclaim from gamers and critics alike, who seemed to come up for air just long enough to sing its praises before delving back in. And the newly released Xbox version is identical for all intents and purposes. It\'s the first RPG for the system, and it\'s absolutely huge, which is both the most amazing thing about it and also the thing that means it\'s not the game for everybody.
For the most part, Morrowind successfully brings many of the proudest traditions of computer role-playing to the Xbox, with all the slick production values you\'d hope to see in a first-rate game. If you\'ve ever played a classic fantasy role-playing game for the PC, then you\'ll find yourself in familiar territory here, at least figuratively speaking. The actual world of Morrowind is original, and no experience with the Elder Scrolls series is required. The game\'s main plot, though it\'s presented mostly in writing, is quite engaging, and it involves first uncovering why your emperor has ordered you to the island province of Morrowind and then fulfilling your destiny there. The hundreds or even thousands of characters you\'ll meet along the way aren\'t all completely unique, but there\'s enough difference between them that they help give you a distinct sense of the setting and even the culture of Morrowind. It\'s a place with a surprising amount of political intrigue and a long history, and that history is described thoroughly in the dozens of different books you can pick up and read in the game. You\'re on your own through most of Morrowind, which makes you feel adventurous, but sometimes lonely. That\'s also in part because interacting with characters is a pretty detached process that boils down to scrolling through a list of available topics of conversation. You\'ll also notice how nonplayer characters in Morrowind generally just stand there, doing nothing. Even when you come visit them in a pub or in their homes, you\'ll never see them engaging in any activities whatsoever, which makes the world seem less alive than it could be. Some hidden gags provide a refreshing bit of comic relief, but these moments are perhaps too few and far between.
The characters you meet will respond to you differently depending on who you are, and who you are is entirely up to you thanks to the great deal of flexibility you get in creating your own persona. There are more than 20 different character classes to choose from, including choices like barbarian, spellsword, and assassin. You can either pick one of these, or, in a nod to the classic Ultima series, you can answer a series of moral questions, and the game will choose a class for you based on your decisions. The third option is to create your own class, and that\'s the best of the three. After all, the premade classes are really just templates rather than truly distinctive character types.
They\'re examples of what can be done with Morrowind\'s character generation system, in which each character class has five major skills, five secondary skills, and a core specialization: combat, magic, or stealth. Your specialization determines which skills your character will initially be strongest in and can improve in the fastest. There are nearly 30 different skills overall, and even those that don\'t fall under your major or secondary skills are still available to you, though your character will be slower to hone them.

Heh I had it for the Xbox, but wanted more so I took it back for the PC version. Gotta say this is a great RPG, especially for people who like FP RPG\'s like EQ. I too am a Dark Elf, but I am a Battle Mage. I finally got the Telvanni Stronghold to boot!!! It is so cool to have your own tower where you can stash all your loot!

Cool I"m glad you like it. Is the pc version any different than the xbox version?:thepimp:

The frame rate is a little better - but its still ok on the Xbox. Also on the PC version you download plugins which enhance the game. Basically you have a construction kit that comes with the PC game that allows you to create or modify anything in the game. Some users have created new quests and enhanced certain things like merchants having more money. That is one thing I HATE! I get like a 20000 gp weapon and the most money any given merchant has is around 900 gp.
The main reason I went with the PC version is that you do a lot more and fix stuff on your own without having to wait for an official patch. For example if you join the Telvanni House and get a stronghold its out in the middle of nowhere and getting back and forth takes forever. However with a mod I downloaded, the Stronghold now has a Silt Strider right in front of it so getting around is so easy now.

BizioEE, do you prefer better resolution and graphics, or does size mean much more to you?

remember its not the size that counts, its the g1rth!
ask jm about that
:)

Samwise, what kind of rig do use to get Morrwind running at a better speed than the XBox version at that Resolution.
I bet you paid alot more than 200 bucks for it.
And all of a sudden, the XBox looks like a much better deal. I love playing this game on my couch with my flat screen 36" Tau using Monster Component cables. It feels great. :p

I never said I was running Morrowind like that. :)
In fact my crappy PC would have trouble running a N64 game. :(

i gotta agree with that
you can lie to yerself about xbox morrowind all you want. its a terd, plain and simple. at this point i dont care if its the xbox limited hardware, OR the dev\'s sloppy coding. the game is a terd
-
I bought Morrowind. I had to wait a few extra days after it\'s release because it sold out in a hurry here. I played it for about 4 hours. I have no real problem with the game ,but I did return it. I guess RPG\'s are not my thing. I was hoping it was gonna be like Halo with swords. Hehehehehe. To much wandering about and getting my ass kicked by creatures. I did have some fun going into the little shops and killing the owners and stealing all their goods though. Anyway took it back and got 007 Agent under fire, Nascar Heat, and Outlaw golf. I need action in my games.

you traded in genius for AUF?!?!?!
As Dudley would say "You have no dignity."
The members of PSX2Central must be the most hardcore gamers in all the land, because even though most of you don\'t own an XBox, you can make negative assumptions of a game on it, even though every review to come out thus far has been mid-8\'s and higher. I guess us 1337 players can only play 9.5\'s and above!

I own an X-box, it\'s really cool to look at when my friends come over.

I don\'t get this, still. Never will, so my beans I shall spill :
Yah, we\'re sooo fookin\' hardcore, me especially, since I don\'t find more than one interesting title worthy of my time at the moment (Halo), and mid-8\'s? Oh give me a break, there\'s always that personal factor, that either adds or deducts a number between 2-9 (or less or more, if you\'re really *****y) from the total score. Hell, I could score a game that scored perfect 10/10, 100%, 5/5, Five wombats/a fookin\' big heard in most places, something like a 8- (I\'m talking about Ocarina of Time here, and some of the scores Scandinavian game magazines gave it, save the wombat one).
IT DOESN\'T MATTER! NOTHING MATTERS! I\'M SICK AND TIRED OF THIS CRAP! Whatever someone writes, another person disapproves, contradicts, jumps at. What the hell is the point of forums like this anyways...
And for the record, I can make negative assumptions of whatever the heck I want (:D), and you can\'t do a thing about it. Maybe avoid me, sound like a plan?
[IMPORTANT NTOE!!!!!111] Oh man, I just read that playing Morrowind makes you really hardcore, I\'m not hardcore?!?!! *panic, obeys TXB*
Someone inform me if I didn\'t make any sense, I\'d like that.

No I\'ve never played Morrowind, maybe never will, doesn\'t seem like a game that would appeal to me, much (see, a semi-negative assumption, mwahhhahaa!). What\'s your point there?
My point = people are different, and all we type here is in vain, there\'s no point in any of this mindless debating and inane discussions about some stoopid interactive entertainment that\'s been deviced to rot our brains and turn us into mindless, decomposing, flesh-eating zombies. Others like, others hate... I like meat *takes another bite of Eric\'s leg while decomposing on the floor*

I don\'t know what to say. I\'m not an RPG player but Morrowind change everything! The RPG elements are deep! With over 500 hr of gameplay, from creating your characters to making potions I say this is the most wide open adventure ever made on a game system. Creating your characters form 10 races and seeing what each ones has unique abilities. Picking a Class for your character is also important. It will bring what your skills are in Major, Minor and Miscellaneous items.
There is Classes made for your like Warriors, Barbarians, Knights, Scouts, Mages, Healers, Spellswords, Nightblades, Rogues, Sorceres all with it\'s own unique skills. WOW! Oh and the Birthsigns you pick will have a out come too. Getting Armor for your character is not that easy as you think. You start off with only a shirt and pants. You have ether earn money to buy armor at armor shops or kill, steal them. Oh if you good, you can pick pocket people for money. LOL! You can steal from houses or any place you can but don\'t get caught. I\'m now have a full Bonemold armor. I had to kill a guard to get it. LOL!! There is more better types of light, Med and heavy armors like Glass, Indoril, Ebony and etc. So many parts of armor you can put on and you can mix them up with different armor too.
Here\'s a list of the armors.
http://www.angelfire.com/hi5/freemoney/armor.html
Bonemold Armor

Working my way to get a full Indoril armor. I\'ve seen some guards with this armor but I\'m not to strong yet to kill them.
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.elderscrolls.com%2Fimages%2Fitems%2Farmor%2Fmw_04.gif&hash=de07ef9b2955921e249cd2e03b254cc871c39b3b)
I got some great weapons but I\'m trying to get more cool ones like the Glass, Dwarven, Ebony and many more! I\'ve notice when you go to different towns, you will see guards with different weapons and armor. Cool!! Hers\'s a list of the weapons
http://www.angelfire.com/hi5/freemoney/items.html
Here\'s a Dwarven
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.elderscrolls.com%2Fimages%2Fitems%2Fweapons%2Fmw_05.gif&hash=795a943a91cfc0c6a2785c280224fd0a6c7cb179)
Here\'s a Glass
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.elderscrolls.com%2Fimages%2Fitems%2Fweapons%2Fmw_07.gif&hash=d6f6b447b8cdd2b2b6734074257fe491451b0c0f)
Now Spellmaking, Enchanting items and Potions are very very damn uique! WOOO!! I don\'t know where to start!!
All I can say Morrowind is so big it will suck your life out!! LOL!! Oh you also can become a Vampire too. :eyemouth:
Here\'s some info on Vampire.
Vampire stat boosts and disadvantages/advantages include:
20 point boosts to: Strength, Willpower, Speed. 30 point boosts to Sneak, Athletics, Acrobatics, Hand-to-hand, Unarmored, Mysticism, Illusion, Destruction. Those are the Base Stat boosts all vampires receive. Choice of clan will offer ADDITIONAL boosts that WILL stack. For instance Clan Berne gets a 20 point boost to sneak. Add that to the 30 you ! already got just for being a vampire-so in essence you get a 50 point boost to sneak. All vampires are immune to paralysis and common disease. They also get a 50% resistance to normal weapons.
All vampires also get 2 spells: vampire touch which drains health from a foe and transfers it to you. Vampires are SUPOSED to also get a much more potent longer lasting/cheaper costing levitation spell-BUT-you DON\'T. Yet another bug that needs to be patched soon. Sunlight will kick your ass and if you\'re a vampire. It will gradually go down the longer you\'re in it. something like 5 points per every second.
Cloudy/overcast days won\'t be so bad. You\'ll also take less damage from it underwater. Virtually everyone hates you...so don\'t expect anyone to talk to you or offer any services to you. Vampires can NOT fast travel. (cheat and use the recall spell) Sleeping will NOT regain health for you. It will allow your fatigue and magicka to recover. Completing enough quests for your clan will a! llow you to have acess to their services...sort of...why do i say that? Bugs. Clan Berne offered me No services even after the head of the clan said I now had access to them for completing quests.
Clan Aundae allowed me access to their weapon smith and alchemist. The other services were absent. I\'ve yet to try the Quarra Clan. If anyone finds out if they work/don\'t let me know via email of this site\'s forum. Also you CAN get cured of vampirism in Morrowind, and once cured you can\'t get re-infected. Ever...unless you start a new character. Mages will be more friendly towards vampires. They\'ll talk to you but will not allow you to use their services...even if you\'re a member of the mages guild. Until the game is patched you\'ll want to buy all of the spells you want/need before you get infected. No one in the Berne or Aundae clan would sell me spells. Vampires can complete the main story but it won\'t be easy at all.
-
Quick question..
Who reads pstwo\'s posts besides Rast?

i always read the 1st two sentences, he deserves that much respect
but then the rest is usually copied and pasted from some TXB article, so i just skip the rest

Even though you say Clyde is the humorous side of your dynamic duo.. MM..
I\'d have to say that you are quite a bit funnier to me than that ape!
So cold.. so dark and coarse. No silly monkey is going to beat that!
-
random note...
most average people own a PC, doesn\'t take a THAT powerful of a machine to run it.
Decent Video Chip
800+ mhz comp
256 Ram(upgrade for dirt cheap)
and a gig
So rather than Shell out $200 for the system, just pick up the game.
-
Good grief, the last time I purchased a PC game the min. requirements were something like :
300mHz P2
64MB RAM
8meg graphics card
...and even that don\'t work on my comp... at least PhotoShop runs well, that\'s much more fun than any lame game :p

BizioEE, do you prefer better resolution and graphics, or does size mean much more to you?
do you mean blocky graphics with crappy animations overall? IMHO GT3 on PS2 still blows away every PC racing gaming graphically(overall) ---> polys, physics, animations, effects on polys(yes...physics and animations can\'t be escluded from graphics...as I mean graphics!)...but again...what I love in GT is the game-play,and you can give me all the racing games you want on PCs running at 1600X1200...but untill they don\'t give me the sensation of driving a real car,I\'ll continue to prefer GT(in this case)!
Gaming experience is not only FPS,rpg or simulations...can you realize that? and...can you realize that PC is not > consoles? and that PCs and consoles are two different worlds?
ps: me will never prefer playing PC games in front of a little monitor 50 cm away!
if 1,2,5,10 games run faster on the best PCs it doesn\'t mean PCs>Consoles:p

Try to imagine this game ported on PS2 or GCN without optimizations? Do we wanna laugh?
We\'ll see a lot of "tricks",new rendering techniques to squeeze all the power of all the next gen consoles and you can\'t expect great improvements in the first months of life of a console(in general)...
...for example the Polybumping technique saves tremendous amounts of space, bandwidth and processing time...
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.crytek.com%2Fimages%2Fgallery%2Fpolybump%2Fpoly_04.jpg&hash=b746b9f73fd1c85c81a8436ff1bbc78bfc165329)
Who of you can see any difference between these two examples?
A game which utlizes this technology is coming to all platforms (Far Cry).

http://www.crytek.com/screenshots/index.php?sx=xisle&px=Shoot.jpg
This technique allow you to reduce the geometry present in the pipeline and can save you from enormous amounts of memory and huge amounts of bandwidth and processing...
...and who knows how many new techniques we\'ll see...
...and all this to say that I prefer to see dev pushing a fixed hardware year after year more than wasting money to up-grade PCs to see a waste of power!
-
X-Box was a pure example, even on PS2 I\'d say Morrowind would run even worse. But the point is, CELERON SUCKS!

biz, does the term tangent mean anything to you?
anyways, indeed celeron = crutch

The XCPU is a modified P3...and it\'s very very good for the task it has to do...and the XBox,overall,is a very powerful and balanced piece of hardware...
The NV2a in the XBox is even capable of extra animations and physics,so that you can free the CPU from a lot of calculations...that\'s why the XBox does not require a 2 Ghz CPU...
...console are fixed hardware and can be fully pushed...while you will never see a game that pushes your beloved PC,no games will push a GF4...and no games will push a GF5...

Dang... people who wait for that are at a serious disadvantage, resulting in :
mm\'s porn collection > their collections combined?
What if surfing for porn with a pad? You have to use 2 hands most of the time! Okay... once again :

Huh??? What\'s the hoo-haa with this game??? I already have it on the PC and it\'s utter loads of crap like the many PC RPG in the market....names u can\'t remember, ugly looking graphics, size too big for it\'s own good and it\'s a first person perspective game...yeuch.
I exchanged it for something better that very day itself.
