lets say earth formed a coalition to create a massive space ship, operating on nuclear power from a fusion power plant.

ok lets start with what we arent debating. fussion has not been sucessfully created, but lets ignore that for the time being. if this bothers you that much we can say it operates of some unknown drive.

so this ship is designed to hold 50,000 people, and is set up much like a submarine in reguards to living quarters.

your mission would vary but would have something in regaurds to keepign the ship runing. and the purpose is to find another planet to colonize for humans.

so would you volunteer to go on the mission? youd be infomous as a person on the ship, youd likely die on the ship but one of your jobs would be to reproduce and pass your skill and job onto your offspring. so would you go?

what if the ship was controled by earth, and you were placed in a state of cryogenics. so you would live to see the future planet and you would colonize and build the planet up.

or option 3, you are made immortal through drugs and you do both, run the ship, and live to colonize the planet.

any comments on this? think itll happen some day? think we\'ll live to see anything like it?

i wouldnt step foot on it, i dont like the idea of going up and not coming down

i already dont like airplanes, so this is an absolute no-no

I wouldnt either. Id rather sit back in a lawn chair somewhere far away on earth with some binoculars. Then watch the launch through the binoculars. Then point and laugh when the ship explodes. Then I\'d sit back down and be kinda sad cause the nuclear flash would most likely burn off all my skin and organs. :(

The ship wouldn\'t be like Star Trek with nice sized quarters.  When you mentioned living quarters like a Submarine, I cringed.  They are so tiny that I would feel claustrophobic(SP?).  The Cryogenic thing I would consider.  Han Solo didn\'t like it though, judging buy his facial expression.

No, I could never leave the earth. This is my home, my life, my existance. Even if say the trip and colonization was successful.. and some big meteroid were headded for us and I were offered a ticket out of here.. I wouldn\'t go. I\'d rather die with the earth than live without it.

Might sound weird to some, but that\'s how I feel.
