I\'m sleepy now. Garsch darn time zones!
Anyway...that was a great game. Ironically, Mexico dominated but couldn\'t score. The US relied heavily on couter attacks - hence the two goals! :D

Hell to the muthafukin yeah, now watch out germany here we come, yeah we still havent forgot about wwII, its on.
-
Lol... I\'m sorry, but I think my money\'s going on zee Nazi\'s for this one. ;)
-
Yeah well...a lot of people said the Nazi\'s would win and stuff, yeah! If we can beat Mexico, we got one hell of a chance against Germany.
Oh yeah, and Mexico, what a bunch of asses....6 yellow cards and a Red Card, and only one of the yellow cards wasn\'t in the 2nd half.
Round of Eight, baby, nothin\'s goona stop us from takin\' it :) See Yuz.

Bah, it\'s not like I meant it. I was J-O-K-I-N-G. Geez, people are so oversensitive these days.

if america wins the cup, it would be horrendous for the world, americans dont even like soccer, most dont watch it, play, they think its boring, but they win "the worlds sport" what a slap in the face to the world if they win

You\'d be surprised how many people actually go to soccer games, just because the majority of america doesnt care, doesnt mean there are alot of people that like it, we have what like 250 million people in our country so say 30% of americans enjoy soccer that would be 7500000 people, so thats still alot, even if 30 percent is a high number.
-
That\'s probably true...as our "potentially" best athletes for soccer are playing football or baseball or basketball. Many of those athletes are actually very good all-around-athletes but just happen to go to the sport that either 1) pays more and 2)they played most.
If soccer was more popular in the States, I\'m quite sure our soccer program would be as illustrious as football/basketball/baseball.
One Mexican fan said it best, "America is the land of basketball. We are the land of soccer. How could we lose? It\'s not right."
Heheh....!

Haha, from what I hear the Mexicans got a bunch of yellow cards and one red card all in the 2nd half.

I\'m watching the rebroadcast now. They did some pretty bad things. Kicking a guy while he\'s down to provoke him. Just stupid.
Go USA! How you think it would be such a bad thing for us to win I don\'t know. I thought the underdogs are supposed to be sentimental favorites :)

Remember the underdogs are always a favorite unless its USA.

Yes, everybody hates us, not like we\'re not used to it or anything :)
But yes, Mexico was quite flustered. Headbutts to the head while sticking your cleats into somebody isn\'t exactly fair. I just got done watching the rebroadcast...I could have very easily been 3 to 0, ya never know. We 0wn Mexico!
And who knows, with all of the yellow cards they were getting, then they got the red...maybe they were trying to combine the two INTO Green Cards! Yes, that was it!

i dont know why all this about not wanting mexicans in usa, they work in the us for little, usually under bad work conditions, and do the dirty works most americans dont want to do,
y does everyone hate you americans? look how you talk about them in your posts

Would you shut up, seriously?
Most of us are kidding, damnit. Why can\'t you take a god damn hint that everything that we say is NOT serious, Clowd?

be quite you arrogant american, i guess its ok for you \'superior\' americans to talk about the rest of the world, oh we\'re just joking when we call aribs rag heads, etc
the world hates you because you think your better then everyone, you think you democracy is so much better
look at hiroshima and nagasaki, you killed 200,000+ CIVILIANS but when 3000 of your civilians die, its the worst thing ever
-
Ah, so now this is an argument over my ethics, great.
So now you\'re attacking the fact that I\'m "arrogant"? Where the hell was I arrogant? Or, to rephrase, where were we arrogant? Last I checked on all of those World Cup topics, everyone was just as arrogant about their country as we were. You got a problem with how we act, take it up with someone else. I don\'t want to hear your nonsensical jabbering, it\'s a waste of my time.
Go on and ***** all you want, I really don\'t give a **** how you feel about me, or the USA for that matter, "Clowd".

I can\'t even figure out if you are worth replying to. The ignorance in comparing the dropping of the nukes to the terrorist act of the WTC is ridiculous.

The funny thing, this is more of an ignorant generalization than anything anyone else said.
Personally, I think our government is the worst in the world. I\'m probably alone in that view on this board, but not all Americans think the way you are characterizing us. I love this country though. It\'s unconditional love, it\'s where I was born, and where I always have lived. Do I think I\'m better than everyone? No, just you.
And how is talking about Hiroshima any different from us calling Germans Nazis or characterizing Russians by the actions of Stalin? That was a long time ago, and that was during a time of war. Was it bad? Yes. But just because millions died 50 years ago doesn\'t mean thousands dying today isn\'t tragic. If you think that way, then I will gladly look down on you, and anyone else that thinks that way.
-
I think that everyone who wants to have one of these serious "us and them" discussions should change the location field of their user profile so that is shows where they actually are. It\'s sort of difficult to tell how to compose your reply to a person who\'s from "sector 7"

He wasn\'t arrogant anywhere in his post. All I see is you calling him an arrogent AMERICAN just for the sole reason he is from america. Now stop with your over generalizing, your just going to make a fool of yourself. How would you like it if I thought all people from Sector 7 were fools just because you are.;) Yea, you get the point.

Thats different in so many ways its sad. For one we were directly in war with Japan and we did what we needed to end the war before more american lives were lost. Theres no love in war. While the attack on the WTC was unprovoked as far as I\'m concernced. It was just a bunch of terrorist that have been brainwashed to hate america.

Kopking and Luke, shame on you for bringing the topic back to soccer. We were just about to have a lovely discussion about why Hiroshima is totally different and how we warned them repeatedly before dropping those bombs, but they refused to back down. So in essence they dropped the bomb on themselves.
Yawn. Nevermind. Let\'s talk about soccer.
I have always felt USA had it in them to go all the way.

If Japan had a bomb, and they warned the us, would the us back down?
ask the pilots, the ones who dropped the bomb on hiroshima if they would do it again?

How old are u? Cuz by the way your acting you seem a little childish to be on your parents computer, your thoughts and arguments are uneducated and foolish, we used that bomb on them to save our asses, war is war, there are rules, but very few, i\'m sorry i feel bad we did what we did but its not gonna change anything now, everyone hates us cuz they are jealous they wanna have what we have, well guess what lifes not fair clowd 9 or what ever the f*ck ur name is, three final words, just grow up!!!

I\'m not with Clowd on every point (I still don\'t understand this "sector 7" thing) but I think you should all be a little more willing to challenge the conventional wisdom.
The fact is that Truman could have ordered one of the atomic bombs to be demonstrated on a sparsely populated area of Japan, and then waited to see whether they were willing to negotiate. There would have still been one bomb remaining to use on a city if needed. We were not certain either weapon would work, but that\'s not really important. A dud dropped over Hiroshima would have been just as worthless as a dud dropped over an agricultural area.
You must acknowledge that the decision to kill civilians was made with the goal of posturing ourselves against the Russians; it had nothing to do with ending the war quickly. The Japanese leadership was looking for a face-saving way of surrendering at that point, and a less deadly demonstration would have brought the war to a close just as rapidly.
-
Very true, but you can\'t say we didn\'t give warning. It could have very easily been prevented, but as you stated (Kinda) I\'m not sure if they really wanted them to heed the warning. I think the US wanted to show the power.
But hey, why did it take two bombs to stop the war?

See by the USA beating Mexico it made thousands of angry people lose ALOT of money.......also its one first signs of the apocolypse! For it says when the free people who fought for there lives defeat the ones who wear the sombreroes on there heads shall force lava rain on the earth but if the free people also defeat the drunk people the world will be forced into war destroying evrything! RUN EVERYONE!

And i think we had every right to bomb Japan. The bastards got us at Pearl Harbor without warning. At least we warned them first....

I disagree. We should not have bombed them, especially not twice. Why not just set it off in the ocean, but close enough so they can see it? No one is hurt, and they get the point. Or at least select a military target, instead of attacking a largely civilian area like Hiroshima. Still, they were warned, and it was during war, so that sets it apart from terrorist action. It was bad, but not as bad.
And dropping the bombs, as was already mentioned, really had nothing to do with Japan. It was to send a message to Russia.
And Cloud, grow up. You sound like a moron.

Dropping the first one into the ocean, at least they could see it? Um, we dropped it right on them and they needed a second one to stop the war. Dropping one in the ocean would only have gotten it wet.
-
They would have surrendered before a second bomb if we gave them more time. They were still scrambling to figure out what happened and how. We only gave them a couple days. That\'s horrible.

No love in war. They started the war with us and they gave us no choice.
-
I disagree with that, but even if that is true, why Hiroshima? No military targets, no major industry. Why not choose a military target? They at least had the decency to do that.
-
The direct reason they chose those cities was because of industry. They figured if they took out industry the Japanese would be forced to surrender.
-
But that\'s the thing. Hiroshima had no major war related industry.
-

I\'ve read that they both did.

Nagasaki had industry. That target had some military purpose.
Hiroshima didn\'t have military industry, at least not in the area that was destroyed. I\'m almost one hundred percent sure there was no major target in that city.

I find it amazing that you see it solely in that way. It was provoked, warning was given. Comparing it to terrorist action is insane.

How would that be good? Can you imagine the amount of civil rights abuses? God, ignorance at its finest. Dictatorships have been tried. When the power is in one person, and not in the people, there are ALWAYS problems.
-
So you rather have nations at war constantly? If every one was under one government there wouldnt be any World wars
you dont want that, do you, you like it the way it is, thats fine lots of people do too

One nation? One dictator? No
No nations? That would be ideal.

Especially if someone like you were king.

No Checks and Balances. One man rules the world...it\'s like a James Bond movie or something.

one king, one government = peace

One king, one government=oppression and chaos. One man ruling 6 billion can\'t have time to deal with them all fairly. There would be revolutions, abuses, chaos. And that\'s if the ruler were trying to do a good job...

-
revolution and chaos is what you get with democracy, communism is the best form of government
the one king will just give his laws to others under him in the government, and they will take care of the parts of the earth.
-
One man with all power will always lead to corruption. Even if there were to be one just king, what would happen when he died? Nothing good could come from such a system. If you think differently, that is foolish.
Democracy leads to revolutions and chaos? Oh, I forgot, about all those revolutions we\'ve had over here
And what are you basing your ideas on communism from? True communism has never been practiced. True communism also strives for a system without a dictator. Amazing little contradiction in your ideal government structure there.
-
Revolutions and chaos, yes, how many times do i see on the news people protesting in front of you white house?
what happens if he dies? the way the king in the uk does it
btw, i like the way Fidel Castro runs his country, the earth needs 1 king, and voting for the president? absurd
-
You realize the amount of civil rights abuses in England when the King had the power, right? When the elected Parliament took power, things got better and more stable.
Protests are part of democracy. They aren\'t chaotic most times, and they certainly aren\'t revolutions. Protesting is a key part of the democratic system.
How is it absurd for the people do decide for themselves who should have power over them?
-

citizens usually vote with not much intellegence, for example, some people didnt vote for gore because of the clinton scandal, pu-lez clinton doesnt even have anything to do with gores predency hopes
you cant put the power in the hands of citizens
-
Which is why the United States has been so entirely unsucessful in it\'s 226 years of existance. *sigh*.

-
People have the right to vote for the person they think should represent them. Deciding it any other way is absurd. The people know best what is good for them.
If you think that is such a problem, why not just provide voter education services. They could better inform the voters of the issues.
The bottom line is, how can you say anyone should decide who rules a group of people besides the group of people being ruled? That is what leads to revolutions. We have peace here because if people don\'t like something, they can always vote for someone who is against it. If the people have no say, revolutions are inevitable.
-

I agree. Communism isn\'t the best form because people are too greedy for it to work properly. It is the ideal form of government, but I don\'t think it could ever be implemented.
And yes, once again, true communism does not ultimately involve a dictator.

Socialism SUX BIG HAIRY NUT SAX, mainly because, that would not allow the cream to rise to the top it would try to even the money out, and give more to the less fortunate, which isn\'t always fair to the rich.

I disagree. I think what\'s unfair is less talented rich kids have a world of opportunity, where as more talented poor kids most of the time are unable to use their talents. It is more important in this country to have money than talent, and that is sad.
A perfect example of that: Our president. Because it was his talent that got him into Yale after having a C average in high school

Thats not 100 percent true, the example of Bush happens in every part of the world, people who have the talent find a way to get to where they want thats the beauty of it all, if you want something bad enough it can be yours, you don\'t need lots of money to get into mit, you just have to have, mathematical equations coming out your a$$.
-
Yet....Bush Jr. got a better GPA than Al Gore\'s in their college days.
Remember.....it\'s not just the GPA that gets you into Ivy League colleges....

But let\'s say you live in an urban community with a poor schooling system, and have to work a job on top of that to help support your family, while a rich kid goes to some well known prep school and has all the free time in the world to work on things. Is that fair?

Hey, I\'m not saying that Al Gore isn\'t another example. There are plenty of them out there. I\'m sure being the son of a senator is worth something.

Back to soccer....please.

Maybe, but I was looking news from ESPN and they were really happy about it. I watch that same show every night and they only talk about Baseball, Basketball and Football, never about soccer. And now have been 3 nights in a row where they talk about USA national soccer team and they even have been inviting experts to the show to talk about USA soccer history.
-
The thing about the USA is that soccer is really a once every four years sport. We are paying attention to the world cup, and doing pretty well in it too. We never really pay much attention to our own soccer leagues though, and never hear about them. We\'ll get excited about this World Cup, enjoy it while it\'s happening, then forget about soccer for another four years.

But if we do well and beat the germans, we as a country might be a little more apt to put little jimmy in soccer league instead of basketball or football americano.

So the nazis will win against the redskins killers.

Here in the WashDC area, soccer is quite popular. After all, DCUnited are the two time US National Champions! :D

The real problem with soccer in the US is that your networks doesn\'t like it. Because soccer only has one half break and doesn\'t have time outs breaks like all your sports they can put commercial breaks and because of that they don\'t make enough money as a Baseball game will do. Because of that most people doesn\'t know what soccer really is. Because once you seen it you can\'t get rid of it! I\'M SICK!!! I\'M NEED SOCCER TO LIVE!!!:D
-
Actually, most kids in this country play soccer. I think more kids than any other sport actually. We like playing it at a young age, but we get bored watching it, and the best athletes go into other sports where they can make more money.
-
I played football (soccer) and still do with friends. It can be some good fun. Soccer is so appealing to most of the world because there is a sense of stragey invovled, it\'s just not all out attack. I guess we (americans) just like a lot of action in our sports.
-
I am from Greece, yeah, and the americans have a easy time noticing that at the airports, i get pulled to the side everytime before i board a plane, thats why i want to go back, somewhere where im not profiled constantly,
i visit my grand mother in greece every year so, if something happens to her, i probably wont return again to greece, im pretty much settled in the us

So you LIVE in the U.S., right? If you went to Greece to visit your grandmother?

You know, I\'ve been pulled aside in airports multiple times myself. It isn\'t like it\'s just you.

Yes, I live in the U.S.

I\'m glad you are profiled constantly. I saw numerous people getting pulled aside last time I flew to LA. Good. I\'m glad. If you don\'t like it then by all means go live in Greece where everything is much better.
Do they still poop in a hole on the floor in Greece?

If pulling aside all the foreign looking people makes you feel better, safer, remember 1995, murrah federal building, everyone was saying it was someone from an arib country, until they showed him, it was like the anglo americans they were looking into a mirror

I dont like being checked not because its an incovience, but they check me because of how I look, how my name is spelled etc, and they do it at every airport
-
Either that, or you have some sort of irrational belief that everyone is out to discriminate against you.
The fact is, I have flown 4 times since 9/11, and been pulled over 3 times. This despite the fact that I\'m as white as they come. Ever consider the idea that maybe it\'s random? Did they tell you they were checking you because of your race? If not, then how is it any different for you to assume that they\'re racist than it is for them to assume you\'re dangerous?
-

There were 150 anglo americans on the plane and 8 minorities.
3 anglo americans get pulled aside along with 5 minorities.
Think about that.
That happened at both airports
-
Coincidence. And only two flights? Even more likely that it was coincidence. I was pulled aside on my first three. Besides, I have seen nothing in my experience that would seem at all like what you\'re accusing them of. That means, even if you are correct about what was happening, it was the fault of the workers, not the system. You can\'t blame our country for a subconciously racist person soon after something like what happened on 9/11.

I love this article. There\'s not better sports than soccer thanks to the World Cup!
By the way. How a 2-0 victory of the US over Mexico turns into be pulling aside in an airport? ANOTHER AMAZING THING SOCCER CAN DO!!:D.

ugg looks like USA\'s luck ran out against the damn germans.
