Does your country have problems with people wanting to immigrate to it?
All of you talk so bad about the US, but I can\'t think of any other country where people flock to move there from so many other countries. Haven\'t seen any news from Mexico about them having problems with people trying to immigrate there.
Just curious. Like do people in Sweden have to deal with people from neighboring countries wanting to live there for some reason?

I think we get boatloads of Asians coming here to vancouver..not sure tho, that could have been a one time thing. I know lots do but we busted a lot one time.

We get boatloads everyday of people mainly from the Middle East.
Major problems in Australia at the moment.

Its not because the US is so much better than any country....
just that the US has this thing for doing illegal stuff and getting away with it. There was this guy in my school, sub teacher, he used to be in the army or whatever, he showed us his badge and everything. Well he said that everytime the US has something to say about another country being bad (ex. cuba), its either cuz the US gov. cant control it, or because the US cant do anything about it. Also the guerillas down in south america, WHO gives them the weapons?, Who pretend to want to stop them, but aint really do anything?. Well that sub said that the US controls those guerillas to keep the South American Governments in check. That way they xchange so called "help" for stuff the US needs and they get it cheap. Why do you think the US hasnt said anything about fighting terrorism down there. Also the US seems to be in everybodies bussiness, thats why its so globally known as a good country to live in. The US controls much of the money in Mexico.
Besides, who is talking bad bout the US?

I wasn\'t insinuating that. I was sincerely interested in how other countries deal with immigrants. I am not a world traveler (YET).
And I didn\'t notice anyone being racist. Except against the Aussies of course.

When I lived in Germany as a student, I had to report to the german equivalent of our Immigration service on a regular basis. They called it the Auslandsamt. Every few months I was supposed to get my Aufenthaltserlaubnis renewed so I could legally stay in their country. Every time I went there I had to wait in a smoke filled room of Turkish people for several hours in order to have a 5 minute conversation with a german woman who always found some way of asking for a form or letter I didn\'t have. It felt like a scene out of "The Midnight Express" or something. All I wanted to do was kill time in their country spending MY OWN MONEY in their economy, and they kept hassling me. I wasn\'t trying to work, or receive government benefits, or cost their taxpayers ANYTHING. I really learned something about what its like to be an outsider and treated as a nonentity in the country where you\'re living.
Eventually I got so fed up with it, I skipped my last appointment, and spent my final 3 months in the country illegally. I decided there\'s no way the police would figure out I was illegal and come looking for me before I would be leaving on my own. It seems their whole government ran on paper forms and rubber stamps, not computers, so I wasn\'t worried about it. Sometimes I wonder if I\'ll show up on some kind of list if I ever go back there. :laughing:

When I would reply that I couldn\'t, always, always, they\'d laugh like it was the funniest thing ever. Psh, whatever guys, I speak the language I\'m supposed to. This isn\'t Mexico or Spain. The primary language here is ENGLISH. Not that theres anything wrong with being able to speak spanish (I wish I could :p ), but laughing at people because they don\'t, and they live in America, is just plain stupid. This made life in New Mexico particulary difficult...

But seriously, belive it or not Iceland also get\'s bootloads of immigrants, mostly asian but most of them have just gotten a part of our culture. Right now we get a lot of people from the former yugoslavia and stuff. People trying to get away from the wars.

Of course you don\'t see Americans rushing to Mexico or Canada. All Americans are already immigrants. The US is a country of immigrants. The only true Americans are inside reservations! (Indians) I bet your great grandfather or grandmother is not from the states (if not both). Besides, you can say Mexicans are immigrants in the US because we are only taking back what once belong to us. WE ARE CONQUERING PEACEFULLY THE STATES !!!:D

Nope! Spain didn\'t slaughtered the natives here. They teach them Christianity and mix with them. Spanish men really liked American natives girls and a lot of them married natives girls witch gave as a result what you know now. By the way, Mexico use to have a lot of immigrants from Spain because of Franco. And now we have a lot of immigrants from all central America an even Cuba. South of Mexico is full of immigrants.

I completely agree psxx, if by americans you mean "white" people, if i remember correctly you people were immigrants to, from europe somewhere, until you came here made friends with native americans and then betrayed them and took their land.

when was the last time you and your family had a meal that your ancestors had a million years ago???? nope never. its burger kinf or mcdonalds. but unlike mexico for xample, we still eating food that our peeps used to eat a long time ago. The only thing this country has is money and job opportunities, thats what people come after, that and the girls, cuz damn, ay unas gringas tan buenas :)

The Spanish went to South America, where there were originally, uh, South Native Americans? Then they colonized it into what it is today. Mexicans aren\'t native South Americans. Just thought I\'d point that out.

Hell, how many countries are actually composed primarly of their original inhabitants? Canada was settled by mainly French, right? And Australia was were England deported its criminals. There are so many other countries out there that I know so little about. :(

Well, lets see here. Why should we flock to Mexico, we have everything we need here. Sure, we go to Mexico for the tourism, but we don\'t flock there. We have no sightseeing in the US? Umm...where do you live, under a rock?
And about the McDonalds and Burger King thing, don\'t assume that for all Americans. We might not have recipes from a long time ago, but we sure as hell don\'t eat at McDonalds and BK all the time.

Sorry..try again..good food isnt needed to sustain. Plus Im sure if needed be, we could figure out how to produce the food we usually import.
Clothes are imported so we dont have to pay the high labor wages to produce them here. More profit for the producers.
The US has alot of natural sites. Grand canyon..yellowstone park.rocky mountains...not sure about niagra falls..ferget if its technically in the US or canada. The everglades and many others I know im missing.
If they wouldnt do it..nor any other imigrants. It would be done the way it was done before migrant workers..ourselves.
The reason why alot of ppl dislike immigrants all over is b/c most immigrants dont bother to learn the language\'s. Go into any immigrant fluent neighborhood in any major city and you will see many a reasons why alot of ppl dont like them.
Me, myself, I enjoy the different things that different ppl have to offer.

Importing goods has nothing to do with immigration. Thats just standard trading. Every country does it.
And Japan is the king of technology. I don\'t think many care much about the mountains and frees when they can play Dance Dance Revolution on a huge screen outdoors. ;)

Well, i can name two real big natural sights the US has. The Grand Canyon and Yellowstone. We have some of the nicest beaches, and a number of caves and whatnot to take a tour of.
Immigrants are helpful to the US, i never denied that.
What exactly is "Old Classic American Food" in your mind?

DAMN you people are smart.....see last year i had to do a report on immigrants and there were some bastard racist in my class and they just completely dissed immigrants, especially mexicans, i still dont know how the teacher allowed that. but most of the stuff i posted is what i said in class, and being racist means not being very smart, they were speechless and completely out of it.
I was born in Dallas TX, of course my parents are mexican so that makes me mexicans, we moved to mexico around when i was 1 year old and lived there till i was about 9. then we came back here. so espanol was my first language.
and what is it with people disliking people that dont know english??? its not a law to learn english, in fact, judging from what some guy on tv said, as you can tell there are a WHOLE lot of mexicans in this country, believe it or not spanish is spreading around, so why not bother learning spanish?? a live in a majorly immigrant neighnorhood and i see no reason why people dont like em. why dont people like it luckee?

It is quite hard to deal with ppl when they do not know english in a country where it is the spoken language. If one was to go to mexico, then they should learn spanish,simple as that.

Well, I must say, I don\'t like some Mexicans that don\'t speak English. It\'s not the fact that they don\'t speak english, it\'s the fact that they think they\'re cool because they can say **** about you and you can\'t understand it. Besides "those" select few, I have no problem with Mexicans. But still, i wish they would learn to speak English, as it is the US\'s language of choice.

I\'ve seen people who have been in the states for years and years and never bothered to learn the language. I have no patience for these people. I\'m sure they have no problem cashing government checks so they can send them home to their families in their poverty stricken countries.
I didn\'t see the original strawberry picking comment, but I live right outside Plant City, Florida where many strawberries come from and I have never met a non-mexican strawberry picker. Not a racist comment at all, just an observation.
The reason America is so great is the immigrants over the years. I\'m not dissing immigrants at all. I\'m just glad other countries go through the same immigration problems as we have.

Look, the people who have immgranted over recently, are "grouping" if you will in schools. They start trouble with many other ethnic groups and individuals. It is as if they have their own gang within the school.

That is true. Well atleast at my school it is. There\'s one big group of Mexicans at my school. They don\'t care about school, they mouth off to anyone, start fights, come to school smelling like weed. I dont know about the speaking english part lol, it doesnt bother me, but you made a good point about how they act at school. School is a place to learn. Some of these people come in and basically complain until it is time to leave. I ask, why go then?

I used to work in a die-casting plant when I was 16 and 17. Immigration would do surprise raids in our industrial area every so often. Lots of illegals working these joints b/c the no one else wanted the lower level jobs with chitty pay.
Anywho..those 2 years I was there..everytime they came by..it was funny as phuck each time. The mexicans would be GONE screaming "LA MIGRA LA MIGRA" The polish were pretty quick too, but alot of them tried hiding in the plant instead of fleeing the plant. The rest of us just stood around laughing and enjoying the sceen of immigration agents earning their pay. They rarely caught anyone either.

That is so true for so many reason\'s. At the same time..I don\'t think I would live outside of the US even though alot of countries are so great for so many reason\'s.
I just think I can accept the chitty so called freedom here..alot better than I can accept other types of freedom elsewhere.

Yes, is sad to see people acting like that! They should know that the only way to change things in this world is by learning and by having a culture. If this "Mexicans" are in the states is because they want to. If they want to be there they should respect that country and learn their language. But you have to be careful there. Is not the same not be able of speaking English because you don\'t have time to learn it because you have to "pick strawberries" all day just to feed your family that going to a school and waste your time all day making fun of people.
I also hate foreign people when they come to my country just to break the law or to behave in a way they can\'t in their country but you don’t see me saying:
“I hate AMERICANS because they come to Cancun to smoke marihuana and drink all night so they can start a fight and then complaint they didn’t do anything wrong and their ass was kicked just because they are AMERICANS and all the world is against them” (I only use AMERICANS to make my example, please don’t take it personal).
You can’t say a entire country is what a person do. You can say all Saudi Arabian’s are terrorist just because Osama is one as you can’t say all immigrants are bad or useless just because the one working your garden don’t speak English or the one going at your school doesn’t get A+ in English class. It’s just not fair!

USA has ALOT of immigration problems. Problem is Mexicans think they have a good job in em sweat shops. It\'s sad....just because they dont have a proper education system doesnt mean people can take advantage of them and make the work for under minimum wage! Damn KFC!

ok, i understand bout the whole language deal, yes this is the USA, yes english is a prime language (did i use that word right?), yes people should try their best to learn it. I dont agree about how you think everyone that lives here HAS to learn or TRY to learn English. Mainly because i mean, you DONT have to know english to live here. For xample, my uncle speaks english, but poorly, but he aint out picking strawberries, he works at the IRS!!! Face it, when was the last time you saw something that wasnt translated into spanish. EVERYTHING is either translated or told in spanish EVERYTHING. If it pisses you off that you think people talk sh!t in spanish to you then, why not cuz at them back in english, woulnt it be the same thing. you dont know what they mean, they dont know what you mean? My mom dont know english, she wants me to teach her but theres no time, and well adults have a harder time learning a new language.

Mystiq, thats fine and dandy..but those that refuse to leanr the language in chicago need to stay in little kexico..those down here in florida that refuse to learn the language can stay in little havana.
If they want to interact with most others..at least make an effort to understand and speak the language. Anyone can do what they want..but when one CHOOSE\'s to not do certain things, they end up limiting not only themselves, but others as well.

I UNDERSTAND, yes not knowing the language limits the person and the persons around them. It is a persons choice to learn the language. ok well let me put it this way, when was the last time you WERENT in a place with at least 5 mexicans, if you have then it must be a KKK hideout or something. the truth is english is not as important anymore, like cloud said spanish is the language now, sure this is america, yes english is spoked here, but why learn english, when theres got to be another person that knows English and Spanish, go up to them and get your questions answered. and luckee isnt that kinda segregation, "you dont know english, BACK to lil mexico, english only here" whats next "your skin is to dark, back to your country"

I can see how you took that statment the worng way, but if you refuse to learn the spoken language, you are segregating yourself. With that said, dont turn this into a racial argument b/c that is not what it is nor intended.
The amoutn of mexicans has nothing to do with it. The day the US\' official language changes to spanish is the day I will learn more of it. I must adapt to what is in order to survive efficiently.
I saw a mexican guy dying in the street once back home. They made their way into a non-hispanic part of the city for what ever reason and had some health problems. He couldnt speak english to help tell the paramedics what was wrong. They called a spanish speaking medic to the scene, but it was to late from what i could tell. I dont know if they revived him or not. Point being, if that person made a note to learn english, he may have been helped better. Also please dont say the medics should have known spanish either..if in mexico..sure..but not here.
As for finding a translator, i shouldnt have to do that when i deal with ppl in a land where english is the primary language. That just further inconveniences me when it shouldnt have to be that way. If I well in mexico city..then I should have to adpat..but it isnt that way.

nope is no problem to interact with only spanish speaking peeps, nope its no problem to not aggrivate the rest of you. but guess what, what are the chances of that happening?. If they do aggriviate you for no reason, then theyre just a bunch of stupid asses. BUT if you said something to them then they got all the right. The only three times ive said or got in fights with a white boy, was mostly for the same reason. FIRST they assumed i knew no english. SECOND they called me a wetbag and they told me a bunch crap and xpected me to smile like an ignorant, and all the time i did smile like an ignorant B4 i beat the sh!t outa them, they dont do too good in fights im afraid, then i just leave em in the floor and cuss them out in spanish and finish it off in english. Actually Mystiq your reasoning that people don\'t have to learn english is kind of true, but only based on where you live. I was at an area east of Tampa a month or so ago and in the walmart the aisle signs telling what products were in the aisles were in Spanish. You know why? We were in a prodominant Spanish speaking town. Hmm, what do you know. Lots of farms around..
Anyway, I digress.. The reason you don\'t have to learn english in some areas is because businesses know that they are eliminating half of their potential clients if they don\'t put both languages up there. They may not want to do everything bilingual, but it\'s a matter of business.
