PS2 already has lost Metal Gear Solid 2 as an exclusive, what\'s next? Final Fantasy? Are we going to be left with games like Jak and Daxter in the end? Sure they are fun and very good, but it isn\'t as deep and compeling as MGS2.
Don\'t get me wrong, games like Jak and Daxter are great but it doesn\'t give an image of a mature system. What new games are there to wait for now? I heard, DMC2 is not a PS2 exclusive. Rachet and Clank(sp?) doesn\'t interest me... If there is a MGS3, it probably will be out for XBOX, too. I\'m worried about the PS2 actually failing, knowing that the XBOX has Project EGO, Unreal Championship, Halo 2(possibly), Dead to Rights, Enclave, Panzer Dragoon Orta, and Doom 3 as exclusives, will we have any chance of winning with Final Fantasy X/XI, Timesplitter 2, Ratchet and Clank?
What else does the PS2 have in the future?

i cant believe you think they ps2 may fail....even if it sells only 10 million more consoles for the next 3 years its not going to fail....
you forgot gran turismo 4 gta4, and who says those x box exclusives might not end up on ps2?
-
Don\'t worry about it; it\'s the industry now. Why do you care so much? Get an xbox, then all your fears will subside and you\'ll have the best of both.
BTW, Timesplitters 2 is going to xbox too.
----------------------
Project EGO, Unreal Championship, Halo 2(possibly), Dead to Rights, Enclave, Panzer Dragoon Orta, and Doom 3 .
----------------------
Dead to Rights I think is only 6 months exclusive.
So far Sega has resisted porting anything except sports so I don\'t know, but there\'s no telling. There have been rumours of Enclave being multiplatform--so it\'s probably a time one too.
I doubt Ego, UC, or Doom will ever go to PS2.
Halo obviously has no chance.

It does look like Xbox is picking up some steam. Third party developers are starting to notice and MS looks to have a decent round of 1st party developers. That coupled with an attractive, yet not very accessible, online plan is making Xbox look better by the day.
It does look as if Sony might be losing a little bit of their edge. Their first party efforts have been mediocore at best, but who\'s to blame them? Third parties practically carried them the whole way through the PSX era. Having a formidable group of first and second party developers likely wasn\'t very high on the priority list...
Securing properties like Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy, Grand Theft Auto, etc. will be more than enough to keep up with the competition...for now.

does it really matter than games will become exclusive to one console. I mean sony already killed Sega, then Microsoft and Sony killed nintendo. Lets all get along and have a communistic fricking gaming community....but seriously lets not. But all good games shouldnt be limited to one console only.

What made you decide what system(s) to purchase?

Not sure what you mean here...

did someone say communist?

nintendo released that the gamecube would be there last console.
plus, if a game is a great seller like GTA3 or somehting, then it should be released on all consoles, why not, it would pull in more sales that way, plus there isnt anything unique to the game that could limit it to one console such as online play.

? When, why, are they taking the Sega route? Or are you just talking some poop?

If every game were on every console, there wouldn\'t be a point in having 3 consoles=no competition=videogame market would go into a slump. Or at least I think so, someone else could probably tell it better...

ok you got a point....im just sick of spending all of this money.
BTW i heard that info on this extended play show that is shown on techtv. They have a tie with http://www.videogames.com so its legit.

While I wouldn\'t go so far as to put it past Nintendo...I\'m going to say that\'s not true.
Industry shattering news such as that would have been all over the web...every videogame forum would be in fiery chaos by now.
-
true, but i could have sworn it....maybe it was brought up by a nintedo offical......maybe not put into action just yet perhaps? Although this news does create for new disscussion.

whispers
Best not to drag this out any further...Eiksirf and Blade might be lurking around! 0_o
tiptoes away

forgot!

I\'m confused, Nintendo going third party??? Not this generation. They\'re not dead yet, they still have a decent crowd in their favor. Excluding mm...

Call me crazy, but I\'ve a feeling that there is a chance that may happen. For one thing, Nintendo and Squaresoft are closer than before. Also, nVidia and Squaresoft are developing a relationship too, that may be very attractive for Squaresoft to move FF. Basically, there was article describing how nVidia got a somewhat tone down very of FF:TSW to run real-time on a Geforce4. Perhaps Square may think the Xbox has enough power to jump ship for. Just a thought.
-
You guys are getting your hopes just a little too high by thinking that FF might be moved to Nintendo. For one, some of you, are taking that little agreement between Square/Nintendo too serious.
1. Square is not directly developing this game.
2. Sony has a lot of influence.
3. An agreement that would benefit Nintendo, Sony and Square equally (Nintendo in games, Square/Sony with money).
4. Why would they move FF? PlayStation has become the primary platform for the FF series and that\'s where the main series is said to stay.
-
I agree 100% with your statements seven. But the last thing, #4... well, look at what Capcom did with RE.
I hope it stays exclusive...:(
-
Seven: Mmm, I think we need to calm down here and think about this..
1. How is Square not directly developing the game? You and I don\'t know for sure, but it looks like Square set up a paper company in order to bypass any deal with Sony and develop game(s) for GCN/GBA without hassle.
2. I agree.
3. That makes sense, but Square is a devious company. We don\'t know what they could pull. ;)
4. Invalid argument. Square already moved the FF franchise in the past.. who says they can\'t do it again? Of course, they\'re not moving anything right now. PS2 is still the focus, and the home of FFXI, XII, and likely XIII.

In 1999, didn\'t Square and Sony write up a contract saying that FFX-FFXII will be exclusive to PS2? Considering the development time is lengthening, FFXIII would be a perfect candidate to launch off PS3...just a thought. Square will keep the series where they could sell the most games...PS2. As for spinoffs, I hope they at least explore other systems...
-
Well, I thought the plan was to have FFXI multi console to have a larger userbase, but I guess 30+ million wasn\'t enough to start.
-
The whole Nintendo rumour over leaving the hardware sector is moot: The new president was simply stating the company\'s worries over software directions (costs/retail/time/competition) and Japanese companies being what they are, they often tend not to bull**** their stock-owners & public over company concerns (unlike, say American, where everything is dandy-doodly right up until the crash). Hence net-heavers - being what they are - start fidgeting and shout to the Heavens that Nintendo\'s Gone Sega on Everyone.
-
Ginko: Yeah, that makes sense.
Of course, who\'s to say they can\'t make spinoffs or something similar?
GameCube fans are expecting to see Final Fantasy Unlimited.. well, that might be what we get. Why not sell FF to GCN owners? Resident Evil started on PSX, and now that\'s highly acclaimed and popular among gamers on GCN. :)
-
Square_maker Sega "killed" Saturn. And then DC(They never handled well their console market).Sega was not killed by anyone. We see them going stronger than ever before.
-
uni - I am not saying that the DC was a crappy system. That system rocked, and it was very underrated because most people where focusing on sony\'s playstation/ps2 at the time. The DC deserved more credit that it had.
-
Sony will NOT fail.......they\'ve sold too many consoles to fail. Even if they dont try on the PS2 or if X-Box is picking up steam. It doesnt matter. They have a nice pillow of money to fall back on if some way sony finds a way to lose in a console war and they end up like SEGA before it left the console business atleast sony has a humongous electronic empire to lean back on. But it must make you wonder they dont seem to be working to hard on ps2........well as hard as they used to.......so what are they doing? Working on PS3,
-
I agree with Ginko. To clarify what I ment with #4, well, face it, PS2 is the most sold platform this generation and at the rate its selling (and FF games), I don\'t think Square is even thinking of moving this series on to a other system with potentially much less sales. Remember, most PlayStation buyers (at least in Japan) are RPG fans and bought PSX for a reason when FFVII was launched. Right now, FF is on the platform where they sell most and will sell most in the future.
Yes, I am very well aware that Square did move from Nintendo to Sony back a few years, but the market wasn\'t that big back, which also made it quite easy to do so. Secondly, Nintendo gave Square a damn good reason to swap platforms -> I still would love to see FFVII done on N64. As for Capcom - well, I really doubt that BioHazard has ever sold as much as FF, yet alone come close to its status. Comparing these two is just something a Nintendo fan would do in hope to see the FF series return to their system. It ain\'t gonna happen.

You probably know this, but its impossible to make FFVII for N64.
If you knew this I couldnt tell because of how you posted the above comment

Only in the sheer amount of size the game is...it would have to span about 3 cartridges.
-
Then making it retail at about $180

btw how many megabytes are in a cartridge? I know there are 650 on a CD and 4.8 gigabytes on a DVD
-
the largest n64 cartidge was 512 mb, or 64 MB
-

I think that\'s wrong. The carts goes by MegaBITS not MegaBytes.
What\'s the max cart size? 512Mbit, if I\'m not wrong.
Let\'s see 8Mbit=1Megabyte, thus 1 cart can only store max 64MB...1 CD=650MB, FF7=3 CD\'s. Considering that some of the core codes on the 3 CD\'s are duplicates, let\'s just makes that 2.5CD\'s, which means 2.5 x 650MB=1625MB(1.625GB)...
The carts u need= 1625/64= 25 N64 cartridges!!!!!
Do u want to pay for 25 carts for 1 game??
25 x 50 bucks=$1,250.00

Which would go perfectly with their 3 Final Fantasy games released each generation policy that they seem to have been running on since FF1 :)
And PS2 has plenty of system selling exclusives..

That\'s wrong. Resident Evil 2, which has a very large amount of FMV in the game, still fits on one cart.
-
i am right as usual
reread what i wrote
mb = megabit
MB = megabyte
RE2 used hella compression to fit onto a cart
5 seconds of my time wasted going t google gets me this
http://ign64.ign.com/mail/2000-10-09.html
The largest N64 game is 512-megabit (64MBs) -- titles like Resident Evil 2 and Silicon Knights\' forthcoming Eternal Darkness put that baby to use. And to answer your question, the 64MB cart comes nowhere close to the storage space offered by Gamecube\'s 1.5GB optical discs -- roughly 25 times the size of the biggest N64 cart available.
oh, whats this Eternal Darkness was supposed to be an N64 title?
:P
-
Paul and mm are both correct. The cartridges are very small compared to a CD. And mm, the "M" for Mega stays big in both cases: so its Mb for Megabit and MB for MegaByte. That\'s just nit picking though.. hehe :D
-
:D
yeah, i know
i always do it that way to avoid confusion
seems it doesnt work tho
