Title: Excuses To Get Out Of Jury Duty . . . That Work
Post by: Ace on June 26, 2002, 07:39:22 AM
Hi,

I posted this on  another board and I would like to see what you guys think.

Before you decide that I am unwilling to do my civic duty I get called every three years like clock work. It\'s starting to get on my nerves.

This year I have to report on this Thursday which is one day before my vacation.

I figure the odds are in my favor since we all know that public employees hate to work on Fridays and big vacation weeks are a must for them. If I do get unlucky enough to get called I need some excuses to get out.

So tell me if any of you have had to come up with an excuse to get out of jury duty. Did it work?

Thanks!

Ace

Is jury duty one of those things that you HAVE to do, regardless of whether you want to or not?

Yes it is. I could just blow it off. They really don\'t have the time to chase people who skip.

I\'m kind of of a chicken so I always end up going.:)

Just tell them over the phone that you are sorry, but you can\'t make jury duty as there is a consignment of hard class A drugs coming into the country on that day and you just HAVE to be there to oversee things, and to pass on the payment to the Columbian cartel leader personally.

If that doesn\'t get you out of jury duty.... nothing will.

LOL,

That\'s a nice idea but I\'d rather not be in a courtroom sitting in the defendants seat even more than as a juror.

It\'s funny, I have been called for jury duty about ten times now and I have never sat on a jury.

I end sitting in a big room with a bunch of other people who don\'t want to there as well. It\'s usually a waste of a day.

Last time I was there I got close to being on a jury.

Here\'s a thought, you and the rest of the jury turn up, then hatch a cunning plan to kidnap yourselves, thus leaving the judge in a bit of a pickle...... You might also try demanding a ransom for your safe return, and end up in pocket out of it.

Or is that wrong??

Again, I would have to say that I would rather sit on a jury than sit in a jail cell.

I\'ll give it some thought though.

"He looks guilty to me."
"Do we get to send seomeone to the electric chair."
"I\'d love to be on the jury.  This will give me the opportunity to just mess up someone\'s life whether they are really guilty or not."

Couldn\'t you tell them that that particular date is no good because you can\'t skip ANY meetings with your therapist, who\'s trying to cure you from being a homocidal maniac??

I\'ve heard a couple of people using the he looks guilty thing and it\'s worked. I need as many cards up my sleeve as possible.

I really don\'t want to get stuck on trial during my vacation.

I do have one excuse that might work that is the real deal. I may be called as a witness in a case that involves a friend and I have been talking to his defense attorney.

I\'m not sure but I think that might disqualify me.

go to the interview and just constantly mention how much you like the death penalty and mention random minor things that you think should be punishable by death and how you hope you get to see this sucker fry
this work especially well when its not a murder case they\'ll just think your completly nuts

d00d..its really easy...they have simple questions that require simple answers.

One is something about being prejudice against other races. Answer yes. One is about if you or a family member has been a victim of a violent crime..say yes. Some other ones I can\'t remember...but all easy stuff.

Thanks!

I\'m going to fill out the form tonight. I think what I will put down will pretty much get me excused.

I\'ll let you guys know what happens. I just hate wasting a day.

Just tell them you can\'t make it because the Grand Wizard is comming up from Alabama to hold a seminar and you have to be there to represent your Clan. That should work. :D

Well, I\'m on a case. I can\'t tell you anything about it but it will be over by Monday and I should be working on my vacation tan by Tuesday morning.

I could have easily been excused but because of the length of the case I decided to stick it out. I\'m glad I did! Sitting around waiting for stuff to happen is mind numbing but when the case is going it\'s really fascinating.

I lose a day of my vacation but I have to say in the end it\'s worth it.

Who would\'ve thunk it?

If I thought the person that\'s being tried was a psx2central regular, I would have to send him to the chair.

You guys are all nuts. J/K :p

the defending and prosecuting attorney both have to agree on a juror, so all you have to say is

a. i hate minorities, they should all fry in the chair
b. i hate women, they\'re the devil! (insert men, if yer a woman)

boom! no jury duty

If we are nuts then you can\'t send us to the chair.  Don\'t you know the Retard Rule?

mm,

This was a really weird start to a trial. It was so late in the day that the judge asked us questions as a group and not one at a time.
The funny thing is the judge asked all of us if there was any reason that we might not be able to make it on Friday (today) and about ten or so people raised their hands. He just let them go no questions asked.

My dad got out of it legit once, but you can try his method for the purposes of selfish evil. :)

Call \'em up like a half hour after you\'re supposed to be there and tell them you\'re really sorry you couldn\'t find the place.  You got lost.

He also got out my going up to the judge as the judge was about to say ok to the jury, and he told the judge "listen, we know he did it, so I\'m going to move for the punishment.  If you want someone to be impartial, I\'m not your man."

They sent him home after that, heh.

Well I\'m already on a jury and I agree with mm. Also, I really don\'t want to find myself bunking with the defendant. :)
