Speaking with the Japanese newspaper Nikkei yesterday, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer revealed a tentative release period for the next iteration of the Xbox. According to Ballmer, the next Xbox console will fall sometime around the next World Cup soccer tournament, which, to those unaware, will be in the year 2006.
K, doesn\'t seem very likely, but oh well, felt like posting it. We get to see another pitiful launch...

2006 huh? By that time, Xbox will have a cult following and a considerable userbase on its\' Xbox Live service.
Of course this all depends on how well Xbox does...thinks it will be just fine

interesting read
MICROSOFT EXPECTS TO lose $750 million in the current fiscal year ending June 30 and another $1.1 billion in the next fiscal year, according to a source familiar with the matter. David Hufford, a Microsoft spokesman, declined comment on the financials.
almost two billion lost in two years? thats fukn pathetic (yes i swore, sue me)
seriously, i swear m$ would cruficy themselves just to get the xbox into people\'s homes
When Bill Gates approved the Xbox in the fall of 1999, he was told that the console could lose $900 million over eight years
BWUHAHAHAHAHA!
hindsight is truly 20/20

Ouch.. MS is feeling da press..
This my beloved Microsoft (not) is competition.. :fro:
-
Is this suppose to give hope to x box owners? Illl say it again, when are they going to make a dime on this thing? mAYbe x box #3?
-
Yeah over eight years! They can make a lot of money in the next 7 and a half years. And who says these figures are even accurate? Their estimates to what each xbox costs is a bit high if you ask me.
-
It takes money to make money. :p
-
I wonder how many "No comments" have been given to Microsoft Shareholders..
:)
-
i can see it now
cnn - "a fiery mountain hurled from the heavens crashes into redmond today, killing everyone within a 400 mile radius of redmond, WA"
xbox fans - "oh, m$ needed new offices anyways. mr gates is immortal, so it doesnt really matter."
you guys make me chuckle
-
And you me.
-
glad to see you didnt dispute the blind following that m$ demands
two..........billion...........dollars
-
great, stupid m$ wants to try an take over another industry. They are a bunch of money grubbin people. Plus, all their games they make or made use the latest quake engine!
X-Box live.... what a crock
-
I give this thread     out of four for trolling.
Oh NO!!! MS wants to make another videogame system in the normal amount of a console life cycle!!! They are trying to become a monopoly in the industry!! They are doomed!!!! You guys are fuckin annoying with this crap. Who cares that MS is losing money on this? I don\'t believe any of you hold any stock in MS. (most of you are too young or too naive to hold ANY stock or understand reasonable business, anyway).
As long as XBox keeps providing me with great games, I don\'t really care how much MS loses.

Isn\'t the goal of marketing profit???
let me know if I\'m wrong, because usually when I sell stuff I try and make money, but that might just be me.
-
EVERY company looses money on hardware.
Companies loose even more money when it\'s their first console.
I hope this is all mindless trolling, because you should not have to be reminded of this. I have to think, with the notable and obvious exception of Billy Gun, you all the the intelligence to know better.

Your too kind. :D

Who cares that MS is losing money on this?
as a rational consumer (and not a child), you should
-
Don\'t mind me, I\'m just trolling.(right Watchdog)
I\'d care, well that is if I used my XB for something besides a cup holder.

Microsoft doesn\'t let go of failed things easily. WebTV, UltimateTV, Pocket PC, etc. When MS wants something in the market, it will be. They don\'t mind taking a loss for a while if down the road, it looks like there will be nice profits. I believe the only thing that kept Sony from turning in Quarterly loss last year was because of their videogame sector.
So, no, I don\'t care, as a consumer, if MS is losing money, as long as they are supporting it, which they are.

There was any doubt about the fact that some PS2 fanboys\'re trolling here? :p
ps: Billy Gunn, are you surprised to see,hypothetically,XBox2 five years later? isn\'t it the normal life-span for a Console?

Is this directed at me? If so, what\'s wrong with what I said?
-
Don\'t take it personally...it\'s just that the thread was all but gone, you dragged it back up. No less to reiterate what has already been said...
-
Whoops!
Didn\'t see the date.
-
That\'s ok.
Bizio: No, I believe it is normal for a system to have a span of 5 years. But only after success. Sega didn\'t have much success w/ saturn, then they went and made the dreamcast, where are they now.
If the first system is a failure, why make another? (puts of flame-proof suit)
-
Why is no one predicting the fall of nintendo? Their sales are worse than MS\'s?
-
Cause we don\'t have many nintendo Fanboys on the forum flaming us to death.
-
More brilliance from our resident simpilton.
BTW, Billy, have I crossed that line yet? I really want you to make me pay for my past transgressions.
-
you make me laugh Watchdog, I\'ll give you that.
