Title: WARNING! MS ONWZ your computer.

In an article on BSD Vault a careful reader posts that in the latest Windows Media Player security patch, the EULA (the "license agreement" you click on) says that you give MS the right to install digital rights management software, and the right to disable any other programs which may circumvent DRM on your computer." So if you want your machine secure, you also want microsoft to have free reign on your PC.

Read all about it! (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/06/29/1254230)

Just thought I\'d give you a headsup.

I already downloaded the damn patch.. Damn MS, I truly hate your guts.
EU sick balls! [EU is suing MS right?]

Heh, and the pisser is, someone is still going to find a way to circumvent these security measures. This isn\'t going to stop people who want to hack your information, it\'ll just make it harder for them to do so. Maybe. Depends on the method they discover.

So now, not only does MS dictate how often you can upgrade your machine.. (XP Anti-Piracy measures) but they also dictate what all software you can and can\'t use. Great

Does anyone else forsee MS competing software like Netscape, Opera, Roxio, Winamp, and others not being compliant with MS\'s new security? Oh.. but I\'m sure they\'d Loooove to sell you some software that IS compliant.

Bastards

Lindows is that Linux+Windows?

I was originally going to do that, but probably be a waste of an OS.  Your obviously going to barely use the other one, but hey, windows isn\'t that bad.

The main push behind Lindows was to get the best of both worlds but from the reviews I read at Newsforge.net it doesn\'t handle MS programs very well.

It uses Wine for these which has always been difficult at best to configure.  Someone else also pointed out that they have removed their "works with most Windows programs" from their product description.

On top of all that you have to run the thing as root so you\'re proably better off just running Linux itself with Codeweavers for your Office apps.

Duh. It\'s common knowledge that Windows Media Player is spyware.

Yeah and so is Kazaa and numerous other P2P programs.

There are a lot of programs that have spyware, just the evidence hasn\'t floated up top yet. SPYWARE ERA HAS BEGUN!

I downloaded Kazaa just the other day.  Not b/c I wanted to, but b/c that\'s where the people are and so there are the files.

Unfortunately Kazaa sucks, like most Windows apps which are tailored to the stupid.

Bah..

Dont you get it?
If you download the patch a program will install that can delete illegal programs from your computer.

Why are you talking about spyware?

You can only select one file at a time from the download screen and if you want to cancel 2 or 3 of them you have to click on them individually and then click YES on that annoying msgbox.

It\'s good to download stuff b/c everyone is using that prog.  Also if you are downloading a video or mp3 you can\'t preview it.  You have to wait until it\'s completely finsihed before you use it.  So if you\'re downloading a bogus 25MB file you won\'t know until it\'s too late.

I can see it now.....

During the night your sleeping and your computer turns on! It logs onto the internet and opens compusa.com. It goes to purchase and buys a MS made cpu with alot of MS stuff.

Brrrrr....... sends coldness up my spine. :(

Mircosoft seems to like own the world. They own more than half of the computer world through buying people out. They are just afraid that another company will come in and beat them out (and I can\'t wait for that to happen)

You can\'t preview avi and mov files but you can preview mpg, mpeg and mp3 files. I don\'t see how this is different from Morpheus or Napster.

You can preview any file with Limewire.
