Ok, my PS2 is just about dead.
It worked perfectly for about 8 months after launch. Then out of no ware is stopped playing DVD movies. I wasn\'t worried much since I really do not watch movies.
But then cam the PSone games it did not play, I got worried so I bought a CD cleaner because I thought there was a lot of dust in there. Soon the CD format of PS2 games took longer and longer to load.
Then you guessed it they didn\'t play at all. DVD games are the only ones that play now and not even all of them worked, FFX won\'t play anymore! The cleaner CD doesn\'t even work!
So I had an idea, ok, I know this is going to sound crazy but I put my PS2 in the freazer. Since there might be alot of dust on the lens I cannot get out I thought I\'ll put it in there to get is all wet in there and get the dust out. I know it sounds crazy but do you guys think it will work?
P.S I don\'t have any money so I can\'t buy a knew one. :confused:

LoL I hope your joking. Take it out of the freezer now. It will **** it up. You could\'ve just sent it to sony to have them fix it. Also in order to have your CD lense cleaner work you have to have it vertical (Up and down) not horizontal (left and right). Well that is how it worked for me.

I would send it back to sony BUT I ripped off the warrenty sticker about a year ago and it says you can\'t take it back without the sticker. I took the PS2 out and it is totally soaked I\'ll wait an hour or two for it to dry-off. ;)

Oh. Well make sure ur PS2 is completely dried or else this may happen:

it were in the rain forest, the effect -> if it defrosts the water

I\'ve noticed that the CD Lens cleaners only seem to clean to a certain point.. But my suggestion is TRY to take it apart and clean the lens by hand.. But I\'ve never tried it, so it could make things worse.
BTW - I got a question for somebody out there... Is there even a way to reach the lens!? I remember I tried it a long time ago.. But something was stopping me.. Can\'t remember.

Yes, you can quiet easily
no ribbons or anything to remove, nothing to disconnect at all.
Only thing is it voids your warenty, which is only 90 days away :)
People who smoke or have dusty homes are generally more effected, and a manual lens clean fixes the majority of Disc Read Errors.

I already voided my warenty. Cause I wanted to see the inside of my baby so bad.. I wanted to see what it looked like... lol
But anyways.. What do you think I should use whenever I wanna clean my lens by hand?

By hand? Have u already tried a lense cleaner? Don\'t risk it, until u know that the lense cleaner cd doesnt work.

take your lens cleaner cd, and spray the brush part with alcohol. Put it in the ps2 (it will not play, because the alcohol on the lens distorts what it sees, but it will spin enough times to get the dust off) after you get the error message take the cd out, and let it dry, then put it back in for on cycle. after the cycle is done, all should be well.
this worked for me

whatever you do at least try the lens cleaner CD, you can use it on other stuff too :)

Worst case.. You can always buy the lens head part of the ps2 and replace it, it only takes like 10 mins to swap it with a new one... try searching the net for ps2 lens ... you should come across some

After that absolutely NO game, CD, DVD worked at all! I totally screwed my self over. Now I have to go though life without my dear PS2. :mad:
I have to save enough money to get a new one now dammit! And I just got Stuntman and Virtua Figher 4. At least GTA3 was working before I put it in the freazer, now I can\'t even play that! My brother is totally pissed off at me because I did it while he was at work and he couldn\'t stop me.
Now you guys know to never put your PS2 in the freazer.

I forgot to mention, I took apart my broken PS2.
I used some of my dads tools and ripped the sucker wide open. At first I just wanted to open it and get a cloth and dry off all the water but when I opened it, I started from the back and the fan fell out! I tried snapping it back on then I chipped the chip. Then I said screw it and just distroyed it.
So now it\'s official I have to buy a new PS2, AGAIN, because I also bought the import when it came out in Japan about 3 years ago. So now I\'m gonna have 3 PS2\'s!
P.S: I decided to use the old PS2 part and hang them on the walls in my room the remind me how much of a dumb-ass I am.

Yes, I actually put my PS2 in the freezer and YES, I do deserve what happened to me. I don\'t know why but I really thought it was a good idea, I really thought the moisture will get the dust out. I don\'t know if I should tell you guys this because you\'ll call me an even bigger dumb-ass, but I did this to my PSone ( the older model) about 4 years ago because it stopped playing games also, but that time I did it it kinda worked for a while longer, maybe 4 months longer. So I tried it here no matter what you guys said. But this all came to bite me in the a$$, and I have to pay for it.
Maybe this was meant to be, I mean I played my PS2 almost every damn day since launch and I never really did any thing else. Now I can take a break (literally) and go outside for once.
Maybe this going outside thing will be good for me :D .............:(

Yeah, I thought about doing just that but then I remembered when I was about 7 yrs old someone sold me a broken remote controll monster truck for 50 bucks. I should have known when he didn\'t give a remote. But I was just a dumb kid. I was so pissed off I went looking for the kid for about 2 months. When I actually found him a couple of years later I did absolutely nothing because I was so scared. As for the truck I eventually gave it to my cousin. Now that I think of it I should have sold my PS2 to some dumb kid so he could stalk me for a couple of months.
P.S. I\'m glad I gave you guys a good laugh but the fact of the matter is that I just ****ed up my PS2 and I\'m so mad right now. I have about 50 games and there just gonna sit in my cabnit now. Sad,sad day it be.:( . Hey, maybe I should start a money fund thingie were I ask people for money I could say it\'s for little Timmy or something or even better I could start an " I\'m a little dumb-ass who threw my PS2 in the freezer" fund. Maybe they\'ll feel sorry for me and actually pitch in!?!:confused:

I might as well, I can\'t believe I just bought two new games last week and now I can\'t play them .The pressure is killing me, I never knew I\'d be so miserable without my PS2. But now that it is only 199 I could get it a lot sooner but I don\'t drive yet which means no job and my mom hates me for some unknown reason. The worst part was that I was almost done with FFX, and now I have to wait to finish it.

No thats ok, even if I connot play the games I\'ll just enjoy the oh so beautiful covers. It\'s not like I\'ll never get my PS2 back. Probably in a couple of weeks of selling lemonade should do the trick. Anyway, thanks for the careing for my game safety Kimahri. :p

You could sell some of the games you\'ve already beaten, just take them to the store and give them the good ol "disk read error" story. Always works. Then there you have it 50 bucks :D
I do it all the time :) for about 20 other games, then with the money from those refunded games, I get a new one. I think they are catching on though... eek!

Well... You should just take a break from gaming and get a job and money then buy your new ps2 and go back to nothing. Wouldn\'t that be fun?:D

Wow GAMES, that was tragic. And I\'m not laughing either. What\'s really sad is I think you might have gotten away with the freezer trick if you just left it in a warm dry place for a few days. Don\'t be too hard on yourself, nutty ideas work once in a while.
Now busting it taking it apart, that you should kick yourself for.
Several times. Hard
A break will be good. Everything happens for a reason, whether we can see it or not. By the time you get to play again you\'ll appreciate it all the more. Good luck

Well, thanks for all the support guys it seems as though you guys are the only ones supporting me, my brother won\'t forgive me at all :( . He really was starting to enjoy the PS2 and now that this happened he just watches TV or reads, not even talking to me. It looks like I will have to get a job pretty soon, maybe Software Ect. is hiring but it\'s too far away and I don\'t drive, so I don\'t know what to do.
iNfEsT, I tried doing that once but I ended up laughing for no apperant reason when I was telling him what the problem was, I just couldn\'t lie to him. So I just said forget it and walked out the store.
And theomen is right I did chip the chip when opening it when I tried turning it on again the light when on but the tray did not open, I had to force it open and eventually broke the tray off :(.
Maybe if I DID let it dry for a couple of days it would have worked again but I guess I really wanted to see what it looked like inside, so I thought I\'ll just take off the cover, dry it off and put the cover back on. But it turned into a tragic accident like Heretic said. Maybe I should kick myself for taking it apart but at least I have a nice wallpaper now!?!?......:(
Yes, I guess everything does happen for a reason, maybe this is just what I needed to get a licence and a job for the first time. But I\'ll still go a whole summer with no videogames, I can\'t believe it. Thanks for the luck Heretic, I\'ll need it.:(

never seen this thread before until like a few days ago. Didn't read it until now where i read most of the first page and it make me laugh when he said he is going to put his ps2 in the freezer. Reminds me of some member in here making that suggestion too, i think it was videoholic. lol. funny story.

I don't remember this thread, but I do remember a period where when anyone posted advice for something that had stopped working, one member or another would reply telling them to put it in the freezer.
