SCE PlayStation 2 - 63,800 - 1,978,700
Nintendo GameBoy Advance - 37,000 - 1,352,700
Nintendo GameCube - 7,900 - 611,100
SCE Playstation - 4,400 - 139,800
Microsoft Xbox - 3,000 - 213,500
Nintendo GameBoy Color - 2,300 - 59,500
WSColor - 1,600 - 92,900
WS - 180 - 4,600
Sega Dreamcast - 47 - 16,600
Nintendo N64 - 43 - 4,900
S C E Pocketstation - 30 - 900
-------------------------------------
Thats about it.. Xbox is competing against a 8 years old system, GameCube has slowed down, PS2 keeps on boosting (what was it you said my dear Bizio?), and Pocketstation has sold 30 units.. Impressive. ;)
-
Why are people still buying PSOne\'s when the PS2 can play PSX games?
-
I will indeed agree with the said bashing of BizioEE.. puh :p
Other than that.. I always love to see the latest stats.

Because their PS2\'s are breaking :p
-
 DC, N64 and S C E Pocketstation sold a combined 120 systems :)
Good to see PS2 still selling must have alot breaking systems though :(
-
Cloud, get off your goddamn "Everyone in Japan already owns a PS2 so the sales must be from broken consoles" That is NOT the case. Get a clue, its very expensive and not everyone has the damned thing.
-
Thats one sorry excuse Cloud.
-
OMFG! Those numbers are fricking hilarious! The PSX is beating the X-Box!! Not to mention the PS2 has backward compatibility which makes those numbers all the better!
-
I was just kidding but ok....and Bob your yelling at me for saying ps2\'s are breaking when a couple of posts before mine you said that same exact thing for the reason people are still buying PSX\'s
-
:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:
Hey gatesy ..how does it feal to be out sold by the PSX then ;)
DIE X BOX DIE !

Now isn\'t that just slightly different. A console over 7 years old and a console around 2 years old still selling.
-
:( stop picking one me!
-
Xbox hasn\'t had any games come out in the past couple weeks, hence there is no reason for people to buy it. It will raise when a good release comes out. GC was the same way when it had a drought last year.

actually, I wouldn\'t be suprised if it stayed this way through it\'s entire life.

I\'m not suprised you would think that. PDO won\'t sells sytems, same with Project Ego and Shenmue 2.
-
DIE X BOX DIE !
BWAHAHAHA! Never!! ;)
-
Only PDO is a system seller out of those games Bozco. Shenmue II (or Shenmue) didn\'t help Dreamcast. a slightly touched up port won\'t help XBox. Project Ego is too big of scope for Japanese gamers, no matter how good or bad it is.
Games that have a chance to sell systems are Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive 4, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Shin Megami Tensei (to a lesser extent), Trigun, etc.

Atleast I started the list. Can\'t say I didn\'t try.

well from M$ point of view.......when your Damn Console can\'t even outsell your competitors PREVIOUS Console then i am afraid its GAME OVER.
look lets fact it (even if you don\'t want to admit this a Flop or Close to a Flop)
the X box will never catch or endanger the PS2.
-
Hey ooseven.. Xbox is outselling PSX.. just not in Japan.
-
Japan, where there is the larger userbase of gamers.
-
*claps hands* Well done.. whats your point?

Correction: Actually that\'s the US.
-
but japan controls the market
concentration wise, japan > US
-
I agree with mm, usually if a system does bad in Japan it doesnt do to well in the other countries. But since X-box was out in USA before Japan it did well. Im sure it still would have done the same in USA if it did release in Japan first. Japan is the top electronic toy/gaming country in the world. They have all those robots and stuff why can we have that stuff! They have a robot that does the moon walk! A ROBOT THAT DOES TH MOON WALK! COME ONE! WHY DONT THEY GIVE US THAT STUFF!
-
That\'s great but that isnt relevant to the discussion at hand!!! ;)
Oh, US sells more consoles, i think you\'d find that Japan sells more games. :)

Nope. The US market is something like twice as big if not more. You need to remember that not only PS1 sold 30 million, N64 sold about 20 M in the same period too in the US.
-
Ahh.. thank you :)
but still! You are talking about an irrelevant point that Billy brought up!!
-
PS2 sales worldwide as of May 2002 (source: SCEE Press Releases):
USA 11.3 million units
Japan 9.9 million units
Europe (Inc. Oceania) 8.8 million units
PSOne sales worldwide as of July 2001 (source: SCEE Facts and Figures under SCEE History)
USA 32.90 million
Japan 18.79 million
Europe (Inc. Oceania) 33.75 million
So you could say the PAL territories are bigger.. ;)
-
i think europe is a bigger market in the long run, yet i still dont why sony does\'nt give due attention the pal reigon\'s. and further more i think why america has most consoles sold is coz of the fact that alot of people import american consoles as games get released much sooner (as u all know) on ntsc format rather than pal
-
US sells more software, too.
and Japan is NOT that important to a system\'s success, s was detailed by password username at GA. Only 2 of PS2s top 10 games of 2001 were made in Japan (sold in America), only 1 XBox game, and 4 GC games.
American and European developers have eclisped Japanese developers as in amount of games put out, but in most cases, not the quality of the content. Therefore the Japanese market is becoming less important in the overall picture and more redundant everyday. Especially when games like Hamster Toro, Dating Simulator 2145, etc. Sell hundreds of thousands of copies that would otherwise sell worse than Rez in other territories.

That\'s true Altered, Software is important and all but people have to have the system for it to be of any success. If I wanted to start big, I\'d launch in Japan, just for the record Tokyo is the biggest city in the world, 30 million alone there... Japan looks like a good place to start. Then you\'ve got US and Europe.
It\'s all about getting to the people quickly.
-
Tokyo is the biggest city in the world? You sure about that?
Regardless, I don\'t think a developer like Sega cares if a game can only sell in one terroritory, as long as it sells. Developers are sticking with XBox (for now) because it has the highest attach rate ever in 8 months after launch, in fact only sits a game below PS2, which has over a year on it.
Sega developed Let\'s Make a Pro Soccer Club with full intention of only releasing it in Japan like NBA2K2 in America (although, amazingly, they brought it to Japan, and it sold like 9,000 copies :))

-
Hmmmmmmmmm.......there pretty much no stopping sony over in japan. :thepimp:
-
True Altered, very true. However over time, if sales pick up, which the past few months, and even the price drop, then developers will start clinging to M$. If sales get worse for M$, which I don\'t think will happen either, thats when they start looking for new ground.
But we are people, we cannot see into tje future. Wether things get better for M$ or things go awry it won\'t have an immediate effect. At the moment, I guess you could describe X-Box as mediocre. As in, it could be worse.
-
Wow, an intelligent post by Billy. I\'m speechless.
Tokyo is the biggest city in the world followed closely by New York; however, socioeconomic status is higher in NY.

"pay more"
-
rofl..
I think I liked "Pay More" more then "Play (with yourself) More"
I think Sony should run that ad in the unnoffical xbox mag, like MS ran that ad in the unoffical ps2 mag
-
lol

Nope Mexico is third.
-
oops, guess i was outdated
welp, it USED to be largest
28 million?!?!?! wow
-
Curious? What ad did MS run in the UPS2 mag?
It was an ad that said something like "The grass is always greener on the otherside"
Which in actuality, if you think about what that statement actually means, its telling people to stay with the ps2 :D
-
Bah, just a marketing ploy to instill confidence in the people who already have Xbox.
The current status of the Xbox makes that ad nul...

Glad you think so :D
