Title: How about an ease up on the 100x100 avatar restriction?
Post by: ##RaCeR## on July 06, 2002, 09:48:49 PM
Its just that if you have your monitor set to above 600x800, then its really, really hard to see the avatars properly.

What if the restriction was eased up to say 130 or 150 pixels? The extra size would help alot of people eyes.

Its just a question. It might not be possible because it might not fit in with the forums teplete.

Just a thought.

Bigger avatarrs = slower loading.  This forum is bad enough for 56k people as it is.  Sure, all us BB people won\'t notice the strain, but it\'s a bit much to ask for considering only recently it was allowed that you can manually change your user text and picture.  Why not be satisfied with what you have?

And racer, at 800x600, these avatarrs should be even BIGGER on your screen then at 1024, or 1152, or 1200, or 1600 resolutions.  Remember, the smaller the resolution, the bigger the picture.  I thought you were a 3D artist, this should be common knowledge for you.

Yeah I was wondering about that.. 600x800 should make the picture bigger than my 800x600..

Yea, with 56k that would be killer.  Hell I remember some of the problems I had with avatars like Soulgrinds.  Well now I\'m in BB goodness.

My broadband is gone for at least a year. It is a sad time in my life, soon I wont even have 56k and I\'ll have to use the crappy uni computers. Now if you dont mind, I\'m going into a corner to cry

Err, yeah, hence the reason why I said it hard to see the avatars with a res higher the 800x600.

The higher the res, the smaller things are on screen... I don\'t know what you misinterpreted.

Well, maybe it would be a incentive for those 56kers to upgrade...

i\'m at 1024X768 and i see them fine.

Racer get thicker glasses. :)

They are at 100x100 to stop file sizes from being large. Dialup users don\'t wanna wait forever on loading times. Even if the pics get cached, newbies don\'t want to wait forever, and not everywhere has broadband.

Racer\'s eyes are a little screwy.  I\'m at 1280X960 and they are fine.

I think he just has a 120x120 pic of Mariah Carey that he wants to use.:)

nO-One:  PLEASE PLEASE don\'t get rid of your Homer pic!  OK, if you want to switch to a different Homer, that\'s cool, but some things have got to stay the same.  It wouldn\'t be you without Homer.

BTW, I have no idea why someone would be reading a web forum at a screen resolution higher than 1024x768.  I mean you\'re worried about not being able to see the avatars... how the hell do you read the text???  You should switch resolutions when you go from text-based applications to graphics applications.

Speaking of avatar changes.... What were you thinking, Samwise????

You\'re going to make a lot of people unhappy by switching pics!    Of course I can understand if you needed to calm down some of the droolers.  :D

Or maybe some of us live in a little town that hasn\'t got cable or DSL available yet.

Maybe you should buy a better monitor.

And yes, 1024 x 768 is just fine. Everything shows up and looks fine.
