For all of you kiddies who dont know how to set this thing up online, here goes.
You take the network adaptor and plug it into the front of your PS2, now take your ethernet cable that runs from your cable modem to your computer out of the computer. (it looks like an oversized phone cable) Then plus that line into the network adaptor and your set to rock and or roll...
;)
-
REALLY?
haha.. I\'m only kidding.
-
I assume you are just talking about a non-sony connector that you purchased from a store?
Otherwise Im sure we could have found that on the instructions it would have come with.....if it was even released yet...
-
im just trying to help people....by stating the oddvious
-
and so was I:)
-
I\'ll help out a little as well:
To take the cable out of the computer you have to sqeeze the little tab to get it out.
-
Its obivious a little to me thats how you do it but its so simple and unexpensive to get PS2 online I have a hard time believing it
-
why take the cable out of the pc?
get a router
-
Can anyone tell me where I can get a network adapter and a hub (to connect to both PS2 and PC) online. My PS2 is a PAL. Will I have to get a PAL adapter or will any adapter work fine?
-

he meant the usb adaptor.:)
and btw cygnus when u were beta testing the bba u just conected the adaptor to the slot that gets exposed after removing the expansion bay cover right.
:)
-
Right. It used that 80 pin connector. There was a connection for the HDD (4 pin power) but there was no HDD.
-
that cleared alot thanx cygnus. why i asked that was coz yesterday when i opened the expansion bay i saw no wires or nothing just an empty slot so i figured their must be something a connector of sort in the bba your reply cleared that up thanx again.

Question? If you use a router will it slow down the connection in any way, lets say if I\'m using internet on my pc as well as playing PS2 online?
-
No one will read my reply now that it\'s so far up.
"Can anyone tell me where I can get a network adapter and a hub (to connect to both PS2 and PC) online. My PS2 is a PAL. Will I have to get a PAL adapter or will any adapter work fine?"
-
it shouldn\'t slow it down enough to matter if you cable/dsl connection is good
-
echo- go to any computer store(one that specializes in network equipment is preferred) and as far as yer PS2 being PAL it doesnt matter.
:)
-
If I have a cable modem and a router in one room and a PS2 in another room could I run a cable all the way to the PS2 or is there a limit on the distance it will travel???
-
Unless you have a Mansion... No.:)
-
STP (cat 5 network cable) can hit 100 meters before it needs a repeater

I would if I could but I can\'t so I won\'t (no such computer store where I live). I need a link to a website where I can get an adapter.
-
echo wher do ya live at the mo since u mentioned pal earlier i\'ll assume u live in the UK
if u do, check out http://www.wstore.com http://www.dabs.com
also u can check out http://www.inmac.co.uk.
-
So I just buy a usb adapter, plug it in the ps2\'s usb, plug my telephone cord into the adapter and boom im online? No 56k modem needed?
-
define telephone cord
you mean DSL line? if so, yes
BUT there is no actual online service so to speak
you can play tony hawk 3 and thats about it for now
have i mentioned you can play it absolutely free yet?
-
Not UK, Iceland. I think I might have found something but I\'m not sure it will work, I don\'t know much about this stuff.
http://www.dlink.com/products/usb/dsb650tx/
Would this work?
-
yup that would work. but just a suggestion tho, get a cheap adapter as it might not be compatible with later online game releases.
:)
-
yes, i wouldnt recommend this as a long term solution once the sony BB adaptor comes out in aug/sept
-
internet on PS2 and online gaming would b cool!

Anybody know when it\'s out in Europe?
-
i tried to plug my cable modem into my ps2 to play tony hawk and i couldn\'t get it working is there only a certain kind of modem that will work or what
-
and you plugged it in where?
are you using a USB LAN adaptor?
-
So it goes the same for an external DSL modem?
-
yes, get a USB LAN adaptor and yer ready to play TH3
again, i dont know how this will work in the long haul, as the sony adaptor is roughly the same price as a USB LAN adaptor AND it comes with a free copy of TMB online
-
i plugged it into my cable modem which has either usb ot ethernet cord ot and it didn\'t work with the usb cord
-
Alright, will someone give me a link for all this online connection business?
Or you can just answer this question in full detain so I don\'t get confused.
I have 56k, if that means anything. So what would I have to buy to get my PS2 online? Then would I just run a cable from the modem to my room where the ps2 is? It\'s all so confusing. Oh yeah, when does all this go on sale?
-
yer gonna have to wait and get the official sony modem connection
AND1, which USB LAN adaptor are u using?
-
its a uhhh "surfboard cable modem"
-
and how are you connecting this surfboard cable modem into the PS2?
this is what i have
PS2 - USB cable - (https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.linksys.com%2Fproducts%2Fimagelib2%2FUSB10T.JPG&hash=7397566ef4579a95512271f963faf7a1353dac1c) - network cable - router - cable modem
this allows me to play TH3 online , *cough* for free
will this setup permit me to not have to buy the sony modem connector, i dunno
