I got a new graphics card and I cant install it because it must be conflicting with the integrated Graphics card.
When I have the graphics card in the CPU the monitor stays black when I turn it on.
I tryed switching the jumper, uninstalling the integrated graphics card, i went to the bios and disabled video memory (changed it from 8 mb to disabled)
what is left?
How do I get rid of the integrated video card?

I thought you were leaving and not posting here anymore?

I never had to get rid of mine on my old PC. I just installed the new one, AND HOOKED THE MONITOR INTO THE NEW GRAPHICS CARD INSTEAD OF THE OLD ONE. and then updated the drivers, etc. worked fine. lol.

lol, yeah
make sure yer putting monitor cord into NEW videocard
go into bios and disable onboard one

I do have it plugged in the new one.
Where is it at in bios?
I have a compaq.
Is it the option that says how much memory to use for video? It says 8 mb 32mb or disabled. Is this it?
Remember the video card that came with the pc is integrated

Yeah, most integrated videocards are. :)

It is called S3 Graphics INC prosavage
I want to delete this thing off the pc permantly
Even though I uninstall it and put in my new geforce, the computer monitor stays blank (yes the monitor is connected to the g force)
-
there *should* be an option in yer BIOS to disable it
if not, contact compaq
-
Note to self: Never buy integrated shared memory PCs

Sometimes the BIOS setting is not simply "disable onboard video card." Rather, you might actually have to literally tell it which PCI/AGP slot the new video card resides in. Why not go to the Compaq website and look up the procedure in their support area? You\'re not the first one who tried to do this.

They dont have the procedure there
I called compaq 2 am in the mourning asking about why their pc wont read my new graphics card. They said that the onboard video card can conflict with it. I said how do you get rid of the onboard video card. he said "you wont be able to do it, you have to disable it on the mother board"
I find this ridiculous. Does compaq not expect people to update graphics from 8 mb? Why not put a simple option on the pc that says \'click here to disable on board graphics card\'? WHY NOT?
Ill go look around bios again in just a minute

so clowd when the told u to disable it on the Mobo why didnt u ask them how?

they wont tell me they said they dont recommend me messing with it
the real truth is they are always trying to make a buck. send it to your local compaq manufacture or whatever and they will do it...pft they will probably pull out 1 part and charge me $100
-
there would be a jumper on the mobo than that would disable it
i highyly doubt it will be labeled, so youll have to get some sort of schematic or idea which one it is from compaq

I found the jumper. Do I take it off or what do I do with it?

Next time, build it yourself.. or have someone else build it for you. Don\'t buy from Compaq, Gateway, Dell, or whatever. They make computers for idiots.. something you buy, use, throw away. Integrated cards on the Mobo are junk and a headache, at best.
Really, it\'s not THAT hard to do.
Edit: MM, I severly DOUBT that Compaq will have his Mobo\'s manual on their site. Clowd, you\'re best bet is to look at the board for it\'s manufactuer. The Name printed in big logos on the chips.. those are usually Bios makers. The Board make and model should be along the edge somewhere or between your expansion slots. Use that to help you track down the company who actually made the board. Then just look up their site, find your model, and download the manual for it. I\'d say that\'s your best bet at this point if you want solid info on how your board works.
If the information\'s not there, you may wanna look up your bios string number (another form of ID) and contact the tech support on the site which made your Bios. They might be able to offer you help on configuring your Bios or at least updating. I\'d still check out the board manufacturer\'s site first.

what kind of jumper is it
2 pin or 3 pin?
whatever you do, remember the way it was so you can always go back to original settings

i\'m with sonyfan, brand computers suck, u could build a more powerful pc for half the amount that u\'d spend for a cheap a$$ compaq.
-
So I take the jumper completly off the pins?

Get the manual and diagram for the motherboard, then it will be obvious what you need to do.
-
what does the jumper say around it?
any kind of indications?
be carefull, you could potentially do more harm than good

i thot clwd got banned

Thx for the help everyone.
After emailing Compaq support 5 times, finally they told me where to download a ROMPaq
I downloaded it and followed the instructions and it worked. Finally after 4 days
