WOOO!! But where it\'s going? :D
By Hiroshi Suzuki and Yoshifumi Takemoto
Tokyo, July 10 (Bloomberg) -- Tecmo Ltd., maker of the best- selling ``Dead or Alive\'\' series of video software, plans to release the latest version of the action game next year.
The new game will be a sequel to ``Dead or Alive 3,\'\' the martial arts fighting game released exclusively for Microsoft Corp.\'s Xbox game console. Tecmo hasn\'t decided which console the sequel will be designed for as it is still in early development, President Junji Nakamura said in an interview.
``Dead or Alive 3\'\' is the best-selling Xbox game in Japan and has sold more than 1 million copies worldwide, a level regarded as a blockbuster in the video-game industry. The company supplied ``Dead or Alive 2\'\' for Sony Corp.\'s PlayStation 2, and switched to Xbox because of that machine\'s better graphics.
``It\'s too early to say which game console the game will be for,\'\' Nakamura said. ``We are an independent game software developer, and we are not committed to one particular game-console maker.\'\'
Sony\'s PlayStation 2 dominates the $20 billion industry with more than 30 million sales. Microsoft and its Xbox are now competing against Nintendo Co.\'s GameCube console for bragging rights as the world\'s second-largest video-game maker.
Microsoft planned to sell as many as 4 million Xbox consoles worldwide by the end of last month. Nintendo planned to sell 12 million GameCubes in the year ending March.

Considering the severe lack of competition on Xbox, and the high sales of DoA3 (compared to DoA2:Hardcore?) the XBox version is most likely.. because DoA really cant compete with PS2\'s fighters..
oh yah and.. DoA = Horrible fighting series :)
-
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........i have a really good feeling its coming to xbox.;)
-
read the article...
it says the big N and M$ are fighting for second place.
Doesn\'t hint that it\'s coming to X-Box.
-
a voice actor from japan f\'ed up and hinted at it going to the ps2 this time around.. so anything is possible

Newbie Button bashing brain dead players Rejoyce..Because Tina the Massive Gaming Slut and Co are Cumming to a XFlops near You.
-
From the way they talk, I\'m quite positive it\'ll not be an X-Box exclusive. Morelikely multi-platform...but Tecmo will have to find a way or they\'ll have to eat their words about bringing DOA to the "most advanced platform for every generation of the game"...hee-hee, not like I care about another big-breasted 3D fighter anyway.
-
If it goes online ooseven, you can button mash all you want and I\'ll spank you senseless.
-
By mashing that bit faster I presume?

All I\'m saying is that a novice/button masher versus anyone good will lose every time, and quite embarassingly at that. It\'s an unfair rap against the DOA series.

It\'s an unfair rap against any major fighting game.
Oh yah... DoA = Horrible fighting series

hey i was just trying to say that the only people (teenage boys) who buy this God Afwul Series do it so that they can Masterbate at Tina and Co.
Looks like my theroy is vindecated with the release of the "beach" volly Pictures
:laughing::laughing:
Spotty Teenage Boy "errr Mommy can i have a copy of Dead or Alive 4....?"
Mom "Shure Hunny ...oh Dead or Alive 4....that sounds like a western...shure hope you give them bandits a damn good wacking"
Store Clerc "*snigger* ahemmm .....so thats your Copy of Dead or Alive 4 and a man size box of kleanex......*snigger*do you want a brown paper bag with that ?"
Spotty Teenage Boy "Look you idiot its a Frecking computer game and not PORN !...i don\'t need no paper bag"
Store Clerc "err no SIR i was thinking you could put it over your head to avoid the embaricement....."
-
thats actually a beach volleyball game based on the DoA girls..
catch up with the times...
-
I still think DOA: Volleyball is a complete joke.
If they really want to please people *steals a idea from The Man Show* release a demo disk like thing called "Girls on Trampoleens."
Hahahah, I can see it now. Then watch the thing go gold on The Man Show.
-
I may make an ass of myself here, but I\'m actually looking forward to DOA: Volleyball...that and Beachspikers from Sega. I haven\'t seen a good volleyball game since the old Nintendo days...they\'re fun IMO.
Isn\'t DOA : Volleyball suppose to be online? I think so, that would make it all the more fun...
I also have to ask, why not have a volleyball game using the Dead or Alive universe? If you ask me, they\'re a perfect fit...then again, most of you are going to criticize anything that comes out of Tecmo.
-
Ginko.. what about Outlaw Vollyball? That could be just as good as DoAVolleyBall
:p
-
I forgot about that one!! That and Beachspikers...whichever goes online will be the one I get.
Still, I don\'t know why so many of you are trashing the game?
-
I think DOA Volleyball is classless and predatory on young, hormone crazed kids. Sex sells and that\'s why this game is being made. It\'s trash.
-
Whatever, Watchdog...it\'s a volleyball game. It\'s just a spin-off of the DOA series. If the gameplay is spot-on there is no reason to trash it...
-
No, it\'s not a volleyball game. It\'s sleezy low class smut. Little boys will buy it and wack off more than play it. If it was a volleyball game based on the series, why aren\'t the men in it?
Yeah, thought so.
-
It is a volleyball game...you can\'t deny that. Being that the majority of gamers are male, it makes sense to emphasize a female presence...
It\'s obviously based around the DOA universe as there are similar characters...
If the gameplay is there, it will be a good volleyball game. You said yourself, sex sells...that might give DOA: EV the upper hand.
-
heh, if I had a choice to which Volleyball game I\'d get... hell, it doesn\'t take a genious to figure out which one...
/jk :D
-
Just curious, do you also protest against movies? Because ninenty percent of them are based off the same prinicaple. Sex does sell and in any entertainment industry it will give a company the upper-hand. Of course the game focuses on the female in the series, that is because that is what DOA is known for. Its well-breasted females. So, take well-breasted females, throw them in bikini\'s and put them in a setting more suited...a VOLLEYBALL game! I mean, it at least makes more sense than them fighting in bikini\'s..;)
Seriously though, if the gameplay is spot on, I could care less if it sells to the masses because of the sexual aspects. I\'m with Ginko, I just want a good volleyball game.
I personally hate the DOA fighting series, but it is a sound business choice for Team Ninja / Tecmo to make a DOA:Extreme Volleyball game.
And another thing, I have to agree with Ginko. Some of you just hate Tecmo and I don\'t care if they put out the single best game this year, you would still hate it. I\'m personally looking forward to Ninja Gaiden and interested in DOA:Extreme Volleyball...As for DOA4, I never cared for the series and I don\'t see that changing anytime soon.
* Doesn\'t remember all the hatred for Tecmo / Team Ninja until they left the PS2 stating that they couldn\'t do DOA3 anywhere \'cept the Xbox. Hmm. ;)* [/i]
-
Bah.. i was gonna reply in rage, but i decided not to :)
Fatal Frame = By Tecmo?? That\'s a game Ive heard plenty of good things about and am looking forward to.
-
I like the DOA fighting series. I don\'t hate Tecmo.
And you cannot compare the movie industry to DOA VB. This game is going to be all about bouncing tits. I\'d be embarassed to play it. Just like that BMX game that will allow for topless female riders.
This game is the movie equivalent of Coyote Ugly or Showgirls. It might be a good game, but they aren\'t selling the gameplay.
I\'m not saying it wasn\'t a good business decision or that it won\'t sell like crazy. But this is not what gaming is about. They are selling wetdreams. Not one of them has small breasts, nor are any of them unattractive.
A game like Outlaw Golf has sex appeal, but it\'s going about it in a different manner.
I don\'t want to see all VG descend into this kind of garbage. For god\'s sake rent a porno if you need to see tits.

The funny thing about this is you constantly complain about how Nintendo has to many "cutesy-poo" games and what not. However, when another company markets sex you start complaining about how that is not what games are about (and you\'re right). The contradiction is, you fail to realize that no matter the image of the game, it is still about gameplay. If the game is sound and has a kiddie image - the gameplay is all that should matter and the same could be said for these new mature games. If the gameplay is sound, that is the main thing.
-
Wellll.. my take on the series is that DOA has always sold on two premises. Flashy graphics and Big Breasted chicks. That\'s pretty much the meat of what they sell the game on. IMO, the gameplay is extreemely shallow. It\'s just not that much fun after about 10 minuites... and really there\'s not a whole lot of depth to the series either. And I guess that I\'m not the only one who sees this, which is why it\'s got a reputation as a button masher. Now you\'re goin to take the same development team.. focus ONLY on the big breasted chicks.. stick them in bikinis.. and expect to have a good solid Volleyball title as the product? I\'m sorry, I jus don\'t see it that way. Precedence is set that it\'s just going to be a simple and shallow game.. focusing mostly on bouncing boobies and simplistic gameplay.. jus like the series that spawned it. It might be a very good title for something that you\'re only going to pick up for a few minuites in-between bouts of Panzer Dragoon and Project Ego.. but I don\'t see it becoming a very solid title on in it\'s own right.
It\'s a cash in.. and really nothing more. Course, we won\'t know until the game is actually released. Team Ninja might surprise us.. but it\'s doubtful.
As for Watch complaining about kiddy games and then turning around and damning a game that sells itself on Sex... if you look at the Adult videogame market you\'ll see that 98% of all it\'s titles are crap. Pure garbage that sells only on it\'s concentration of pootang. I don\'t think anyone here wants to see the videogame market on the whole turn into the Adult game market. Is it a law that just because a game has sex and other adult themes that it has to be crap? I think what he\'s hoping for are games that can satisfy both the need for more adult entertainment as well as provide excellent gameplay and quality builds.
Yeah, Sex sells... but that\'s no excuse for mindless cashins and crap titles. Gameplay and quality should always come before the Sexual content. I know Tecmo\'s good on the quality end.. the gameplay in DOA is severly lacking tho IMO.. and I doubt that will change much in this new volleyball game.
I hope I\'m wrong.
-
Well, you\'re wrong about that. I have issue with N because they target 5-15 year olds. I have issue with DOAVB becasue they target 14-20 year old boys.
I would have no no problem playing a mature game. But anyone who thinks boucing tits and drooling boys are mature, have some skewed views and serious issues.
I have respect for N in the same way that I respect Playschool. I have no respect for Tecmo (although I do like some of their games). From their outspoken headman down to this sharade of a volleyball game, it\'s a classless company, not confident enough in their own gamemaking ability to produce a volleyball game that can rise above the stature of saturday night blue movies and soft porn.
-
They are selling wetdreams. Not one of them has small breasts, nor are any of them unattractive.
Why on earth would they put unattractive people in a Volleyball game? Why average people, whatever that might be? Why not go for the flash and appeal to draw a little bit more attention?
I really don\'t see why you people are making such a big deal out of this...it is a volleyball game. It is not a softcore porn or adult entertainment, nor a mature theme...
It is a flashy presentation that\'s perfectly suited for the game at hand...if it were a different title such as adventure or racing, there would definitely be issues.
-
"To draw a little more attention..."
That said it all. And that\'s why they\'re doing it. Eminem has said that he doesn\'t truly believe half the things he says in songs--he says them to draw a little more attention and make a little more money. Because without the controversy, Eminem would be Vanilla Ice.
There is no integrity in that. It\'s gratuitous; there is no need for it. If it truly had great gameplay it wouldn\'t need the titappeal because people would buy it. Instead, Tecmo is cashing in, trying to make all the money they can. It\'s slimy.
-

Without it, he just be another rapper...he would be part of the norm.

So have we completely ruled out the idea that it could have good gameplay? As I said, it\'s complimentary to the game at hand...and appropriate.
About as appropriate as going to the beach and seeing women in bikinis...perhaps playing volleyball.
-
No it could be good.
Go to the beach, you\'ll find that men and hideously unattractive women enjoy volleyball too.
-
Then it would become a question of who you would rather watch;)
-
SonyFan...
I think the DOA series sells on 2 other premises...
The left one and the right one...
:p
-
No, I\'m making the point that Tecmo isn\'t so interested in making a Volleyball game as they are in making many sweaty nights for young hormone crazed boys.
-
I\'m going to have to completely agree with Watchdog on his views of DOA: Volleyball.
I mean, sure, some might overlook the sexual nature of the game and take for granted that it is indeed a Volleyball game.
But, I doubt I\'m gonna hear in the store if this game is running, "Hey look! It\'s a volleyball game! Cool!"
More like
"Check out the tits on her! What\'s the jump button??!?!? *laugh laugh laugh*"
They really could\'ve made this game less sexually targeted, and not emphasize apon the fact that the DOA series had a killer tit physics engine.
Again, these are my views and opinions. Don\'t like them, tough.
-
I really do hope you\'re joking as I think it\'s completely far fetched to think someone would buy a volleyball game for "thrills".
-
Watchdog summed most of it up.
Tecmo isn\'t making a volleyball game, it\'s making a hot women jump out and down and throwing some sort of ball in there at some stage. Most likely a volleyball.
When they sat down to make the game, do you really think that making a great volleyball game that people could really enjoy because they will have unique gameplay aspects and physics and the like was their main priority? No. They sat down at a meeting and said "How can we make some money. Hmm, I know, putting the.. get this Dead or Alive girls.. into some sort of WET T-SHIRT GAME!!!!".. Then somewhere along the line it changed into a volleyball game
^

|
| 100% Fact i heard them say it!!!!
|
|
Sure the game might be good, if its not they will be a laughing stock.

Lol Ginko! Haha. jm hit the nail on the head: when people first play this game they are indeed going to go searching for the jump button, or figuring out ways to get the most bounce for their bucks or endlessly playing replays in ultra slo-mo.
It\'s shameful.
Sega made a very fine Tennis game. There are no bouncing boobs, no scantily clan women, no shower sequences. They play tennis, that\'s the selling point.
You look at a trailer for this stupid game and you\'ll see how many good depictions of volleyball? How many rallies are you seeing from angles that don\'t best show off their bounce engine? How many gameplay mechanics are being displayed?
Now, how many bouncing tits are shown? How many slow camera pans up a model? How many lustful shots?
You are only kidding yourself.
-
I\'m not questioning Tecmo\'s motives...
They made a volleyball game with women in bikinis...what\'s so wrong with that? It\'s neither inappropriate or out of character for a volleyball game...
-

Kidding myself on what? I haven\'t ruled out the possibility that the game will suck...
If it has good gameplay, as good as the other v-ball games, which one will you want?
-
I\'d take the one that doesn\'t cater to poor saps who have to jack off to video games. Thanks.
And I\'ve played lots of VB games, and none of them have been this base and classless. So, yes it is innappropriate. Plus, the beaches I go to do not have 16 year old girls, with tits bigger than their heads, playing volleyball in bikinis. Actually, I see MANY more men playing than women.
The only time I saw women like that playing VB was in a porno movie, and I have more respect for the makers of that movie because at least they are upfront of what they are doing. They weren\'t trying to pass their movie off as a documentary about VB.
-
So what we have established in this thread is that a company should now go for moral decency and not release a game if it has sexual themes? I\'m confused. I thought the videogame industry was just that ...an industry . Last time I checked the name of the game was to sell ungodly amount of games and last time I checked...sex sells! So, what exactly is wrong with Tecmo using the sex sells fact to do what a business does, which is sell games?
I\'m not concerned with the moral decency of a company. I look at them all the same. They are out to make money, end of story. I think some of you forgot that this is indeed an actual industry where the main theme is making money.
-

Nobody is going to buy a 50$ v-ball game for cheap thrills when a playboy is a fraction of the price.:p
Okay, let\'s say Tecmo comes through and delivers a worthwhile v-ball game that\'s actually in contest with the others...let\'s even say it\'s a cut above the rest in regards to gameplay. You would pass it up based on the "gratuitous" motives of the developers?
-
Hugs LIC, it always seems like you know where I\'m coming from
-
I\'m more interested in that porno Watchdog mentioned.
What was it called?
:p
-
Remember in Gremlins 2 when they showed those topless women playing volleyball?
hopes that\'s not the one watchdog is referring to
-
I don\'t care what you guys say--it is bad for the industry. It gives it a bad image. VGs are already beleaguered in the main stream media, crap like this and xxx Motocycle games are not going to help the matter.
Plus, I\'d hate it if all devs resorted to this kind of childishness. It sullies the hobby. I would like VGs to one day be a respected form of entertainment and not relegated to kid\'s stuff as it is now.
Crap like this reinforces the message that VGs are meant for immature, adolescent boys. It\'s not in the spirit of VGs that this game was made. It\'s a cash grab.
I like breasts as much as the next guy, but around here the next guy doesn\'t sleep beside real ones so he must seek them in video games. It\'s sad. Rent a movie or get a girlfriend and you find pixels and polygons so damn attractive.

:facelick: Hugs Ginko, I feel your pain.
Watch, at one time I would of agree\'d with you on this hurting the industry but I don\'t believe it will now. When Sega started catering to the teen market, they set out a new generation. Sony picked it up and started to cater towards the more mature audience. The fact is, plenty of adults buy games now . If they didn\'t, we wouldn\'t have an industry that brings more money in than the movie industry. The only people games like this will upset is the senators, overly-religious and those who think we should censor the market . I for one say we don\'t censor. I say we throw a label on it that says it is for mature gamers, ID the buyer and then let it out on the market. If sex sells the game, that\'s fine. That is the point of any industry, to sell a product. And the simple fact is, you even realize this.
And finally, the amazing thing is people like you are throwing a fit about the sexual themes (even tho\' some are indirect) but you don\'t complain about the excessive amounts of violence in some games. I don\'t know, but I\'m a lot more worried about some game where the whole premise is to kill, gettin\' into some wacko teens hands, more so than a volleyball game with bikini clad girls.

DOA4 will be tight i will be getting it. Hey just cause i love figthing games too and really enjoyed doa3 too.

And we all thank you for stating that for the zillionth time, not to mention adding such thought into the discussion at hand - DOA:EXtreme Volleyball, in case you didn\'t read any of the posts . Or was you just trying to get the thread back on topic, which is suppose to be DOA4, but hasn\'t been since Ooseven posted the DOA:EV picture earlier in this thread?
;)
-
I\'m not talking about censorship, I\'m talking about public perception. Movies are an acceptable form of entertainment. They have tv shows dedicated to them, they are reported about on the news, newspapers, etc. VG news is pushed away from the mainstream, just like toys, because it\'s looked on as juvenile.
DOAVB, isn\'t helping this matter.
-
Well as it as stated before with Tecmo trying to bring DOA to the most advanced platform each yeah well....why does every major developer ignore the pc!!!!!!! It would be so much easier to play all the cool games if they\'re on a pc cuz just about everyone has one I mean if they released goldeneye on the pc I\'d buy it in a heartbeat.
