I\'m thinking in purchasing a new computer next year, but this time I want to bo get a laptop because my study place changes. I want to ask you the next questions about them:
1) What\'s the average battery\'s autonomy of a laptop?
2) Can I buy extra batteries in order to recharge and change them?
3) What are the negative points in purchasing a laptop (general ones, hardware...)
4) What\'s the best trade mark? Fujitsu? Toshiba?
5) Does a laptop work as well as a normal PC with the same features? I mean, a P4 laptop works as a P4 PC or slowly?
Thanx ;)

1) Depends on what u r doing, normally around 2 hours, less if you are burning a cd
2)You probably can, don\'t know where from or how much
3)Crap graphics cards, so games very slow
4)Dunno
5)Works same as a desktop pc for internet and word processing. Cheaper ones with crappy graphics cards will struggle with latest games. Laptops with good graphics cards tend to be much more expensive.

I have a 1ghz, 256mb ram Toshiba Satellite, and I hate it. If I would have spent the same cash on a desktop I would have been much happier. I originally bought it for College, however I do not use it enough away from home, to justify my purchase.
The graphix card is soooo slow I can\'t play PONG above 30fps. It\'s completly useless for games. And as far as apps, my old p3 850mhz was faster, I should now because I set them up next to eachother, cleared the ram, ran the same progs at the same time, and the old comp whooped up on my laptop.
The only cool thing about the Laptop is that I can play dvds when I\'m away from home...that is it, nothing more.
So unless you plan to use the laptop ALOT away from home, get yourself a new desktop.

I also spent a lot of money on a laptop 2 years ago and wish I had used the money on pretty much anything else. Only get one if you physically cannot have a desktop. The novelty of a portable computer soon wears off, and the battery life gets shorter and shorter over time
-
Rick is right on the money.
I wish I could figure out a way to unload my Laptop, and pay off my bill, so that I could get a new desktop...
-
like most peple in this thread i also say dont get a laptop unless it is of absolute neccessity but if u do decide to get one i\'ve heard dell laptops are pretty decent like this one (http://www.dell.com/us/en/fss/products/model_inspn_3_inspn_8200.htm#tabtop).

Thanx all you. I\'m thinking now if a laptop is really worth the money...
Thanx for the advices. ;)
PD: it\'s true. Laptop prices suck a lot.

My dad bought a laptop recently for about $1500 Canadian, and the specs are as follows:
20 GB Harddrive
256 MB RAM
Intel Pentium III @ 933 MHz
Ethernet card (w00t!)
And most laptops have a battery recharger thing that you can plug into your laptop and into an electrical socket. It will recharge while you use it. Good stuff.

My dad has a laptop, and in all honesty, the thing kicks ass. The thing is like top of the line, and it seems to run with no problem. For what I\'ve used it for, it\'s been perfectly fine. I haven\'t, however loaded any games on it, so I can\'t tell you about how they run.
The best part about his laptop...it was free. He gets one like every 2 years from where he works.
-
mmm... shockwaves can you give me one??? :D State that your father\'s one was stolen or something :D
-
I would, but the postage to Spain would be too much :p
-
For regular computer work just get a desktop, you\'ll be happier.
I bought a laptop for school, however I went for price and size over perfomance.
-
tHe bottom line is laptops cost more than desktops, even though the desktop will have better system specs.
If you do get a laptop however, be aware that playing FPS style games on it will result in a pain, because the palm of my hand always accidently clicks the left click button, and I fire all over the place.
-
No. I think laptops are not the best platform to play FPS :D
PD: shockwaves, i\'ll pay it :D
-
Yeah, but then I\'d have to make a trip all the way to the post office. I don\'t really like it there. It smells funny :p
-
Capullo :D

I have no idea what it means, but I\'m pretty sure I was just insulted in spanish :(
-

-
Meh. Just you wait! I\'ll learn...like...German or something, and insult you in that! HA!!
:(
-
