I\'d OC my processor and Gfx card, but my system runs too hot. Off the top of my head, I think last time I checked the then was at nearly 80c at a full load :(
Gonna get me a Volcano 7 HSF (http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp?image=35-106-011-04.JPG/35-106-011-05.JPG/35-106-011-06.JPG) and this case, a Kingwin all aluminum (http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp?image=11-170-001-01.JPG/11-170-001-02.JPG/11-170-001-03.JPG/11-170-001-04.JPG/11-170-001-05.JPG/11-170-001-06.JPG/11-170-001-07.JPG/11-170-001-08.JPG/11-170-001-09.JPG) , 6 fans. Hopefully those two can cool down my computer and processor. Kinda wish I would have shelled out the extra cash for a P4.
-
nataku,
how hot is your cpu running at. Mine is running around 47 degrees C. I\'ve got 3 case fans. and the fan on the sink etc.
Gonna add another 2 case fans. But i gotta mod my case to do it. My tower is really enclosed.. not good for AMD processers.. But i don\'t have much of a choice.
Soon i\'ll get a new CPU. Athlon Xp 2.5ghz. If it\'s released that is. Not sure.
But right now i just want a new GFX card.
-
Meh, mine\'s not top of the line or anything, but it gets the job done.
It\'s an HP
Intel Celeron @ 900 MHz

Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer
Logitech Wingman Control Pad (love that thing)
Standard HP keyboard
Whatever speakers came with the computer :(
Windows ME :(
The basic graphics card the thing came with :( (this will be the next thing I change)
Cable Modem :)

That\'s too hot, the max for the Tbirds is 90°c, and that\'s the utter max.
You\'re supposed to run from around the upper 30\'s to the upper 40\'s. You heatsink might be loose.

Yeah, might be.... I never thought about checking that. I mainly just worked on getting more airflow by moving wires and stuff around. I\'ll have to check that.
But my fan isn\'t the best either. Doesn\'t have any fans other than the powersupply one, heh.
EDIT: Just checked and it\'s at 41c for the MB, 61c for the CPU. I\'m not doing anything tho... a few games of WC3 or something and it\'ll shoot up... after my computer is on for a few hours my room it sits in feels like a sauna.
-
yep no-one is correct.. if u go above 90c.. Say bye bye to your cpu. The threshold is 90c. Also, Amd cpus can give strange problems if they got too hot. Crashing etc.
I recommend getting a certified AMD Sink and Fan. You can\'t go wrong. Also getting more case fans could help.

and that mouse looks like it came from the terminator movie
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fhardware%2Fmouse%2FImages%2FMOUSEfeature%2Fwie_callout.jpg&hash=432fd05f257cf72a3c751dac110a5fe4b8fe4ee1) (https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fhardware%2Fmouse%2FImages%2FMOUSEgeneric%2Fie%2Fie_callout.jpg&hash=d0fa14e16fbcbc54a59e432b54b5f8e650aed799)
Those are the two mice I have. The wireless one just doesn\'t feel as responsive as the corded one, but I just bought one of those new fUnc mousepads so we\'ll see how that works out when it gets here in about 3 days or so.
how much did your rig cost ryu?
The tower cost about $1700 or so while the monitor cost about $600. Then there\'s tax and shipping. It also came with a free Lexmark x73 all in one printer\\copier\\scanner. Doing the math, it came out to be a couple hundred dollars less then if I had it custom built the way I really wanted it. Besides, having a $4000 line of credit with Dell didn\'t hurt much either.
The processor is what really drives the price up though because, as everyone knows, Intel is not cheap, but because it runs cooler and with the enclosed space I have, as you can see from the picture, it\'s a necessity for me. I can easily add another fan, but I\'ll worry about that when it really matters.
-
so we\'re talking 2500 usd.. I could have built that pc alot cheaper then that, and also sold it alot cheaper too. Most retailers that are large companys add around 200 to 300% markup on the products.. We add 20%. :)
A example.. Harvery Norman here in aus sells a Seagate ATA100 20gig 7200 HD for around 399. Or 299.. not sure which it was.
We sell 80gig 7200 ATA100 Seagate Hds for $210. That\'s 105 USD.
I HATE superstores.
Maybe your not going to cheap retailers etc. Most superstores etc ripp people of a lot. but doesn\'t matter.. You got a good rig goin there. :)
-
*reminds soulgrind of the credit*
The idea of the credit line is the fact that you can pay for it all at once or in monthly increments. If I were to do monthly increments, it would take me anywhere between 6 months to a year to put together all that money for a rig like that. I don\'t have 2500, 2000, or 1500 just lying around like some people seem to have, but credit is a wonderful thing. I can get away with paying 140 a month for the next few months and still have my PC here to use and not in so many parts strewn about my room. When it comes down to it, you can buy your case, your harddrive, your cables, power supply, speakers, monitor, nic, and mouse\\keyboard at any time, but the videocard, the processor, motherboard, and ram are all parts that you don\'t buy until the very end of the cycle and consequently are the most expensive parts.
Fact of the matter is, I\'m in college, I don\'t get paid much for the work I do, and I managed to have this great system now based on my shoe string budget and I\'m very happy for that. You can wave cheaper in my face all you want, but you won\'t give me $4000 so I can pay you back in tiny increments. ;)
-
i\'m not having a go at you. :) credit is good. Credit cards are even better.. Also with a credit card you get a credit rating. So you can get house loans. :)
But it\'s all good. I\'m just the type of person that prefers to update slowly.. and not have debts. Update as i go etc. I find it cheaper then having to build a machine from scratch, or have one built for me. :)
Reason why is because when you do finally pay of your pc. It will be out dated, (depending on how long it takes) I would hate that. Paying so much for a comp that when u do own. Is outdated. :) also because if you don\'t keep up with payments.. you lose your comp :(
But ryu.. You can send me your DDR mem and GFX card anytime. :)
-
All is well SG. I\'m just saying that I really did shop around and this was a GREAT deal. It\'s using top of the line parts and that\'s something that a lot of retail PC builders can\'t say. *cough*Gateway*Cough*
-
yea there\'s a lot of shifty pc retailers out there. The only thing on my pc that i don\'t trust is my memory. That\'s what i get for trusting a friend. Next time i\'ll get the memory brand i want....
I\'ll be getting 512meg DDR PC2700 333Mhz Kingmax for me.. Lifetime warrenty. :D Maybe TinyBGA DDR400 DIMM. not sure.

TOBG, don\'t buy a wireless mouse. If you game a lot, the performance is awful. I noticed the unresponsiveness as soon as I started playing. The dual optical eyes in the logitech mice just might be better, but the wireless intellimouse explorer is awful. I took mine back yesterday just after 2 days of use. If you are going to buy a new mouse, go with the Intellimouse Explorer (non wireless) 5-button mouse. It\'s perfect and precise as hell and after about 4.5 years of use on mine, I couldn\'t be happier. If that\'s not enough, then go here and get the best mousepad on the planet (even though optical mice don\'t really need any special surface, it\'s always good to have top of the line stuff.)
