damn these shots look good even if they are\'nt ingame.
:)

Awesome GmanJoe. Really cool pics. The last enhacements included an antialising for sure.
Thanx

The US gets it last. :(
You Europeans get all the good racing games first!

Yeah...that\'s just it. They\'re not ingame. But as I recall, WRC had better actual ingame graphics than the preview pics prior to its release.

It\'s good to be european yeah! Above all when games are 16% slower than in the rest of the world.
-
huh wait a minute... now, why aren\'t these in-game? Because some said they\'re not or because they look too good, or because EvolutionStudios actually confirmed it?

Does the site say they are not ingame? They look very ingameish to me.
The lightning, car models and surroundings look better. But then again Evo studios said they use 2x the polygons in WRC2k2 compared to WRC.
*impressed*

Yeah, well, we get almost all other games last, and crappied-up just for us. And as for most really great games, we don\'t get \'em at all. SO STFU!!!

We want everything.

I hate to bump this thread up there again, but if I may ask; why aren\'t these shots in-game? I\'m still waiting for someone to reply... :)
-
Dude, aren\'t these the first pics of WRC 2002?
-
They are ingame.. The developer confirmed it at Gaming-Age forums.
Here are some quotes on whats new ect..
Hopefully I can clear some of the points raised in this thread...
The screen-shots are just pre-alpha so there\'s still a lot to do
The handling is much improved and the cars feel much heavier
The shots are replay but the game and replay are identical
The blown wheel is a place-holder for alpha
There are no direct online options but the Online Challenege returns
Loading times will be drastically reduced by using a binary load, hopefully no more than 6 or 7 seconds on average
Some long stages up to 10 to 12 minutes in length
Expert WRC will consist of 14 rounds of 9 stages per round
The SSS\'s are based on the actual tracks, the normal stages are based loosely round the general geographical area
The intention is to sort the difficulty level, hopefully the above displays a willingness to correct a lot of the short-comings of WRC (yes we do listen!)
-----------
It already looks a lot better (no really!), we\'re drawing a lot more objects while retaining the huge draw distance. We should be able avoid pop-up and maintain a steady 60 (and we\'re definitely including a 50/60 option for PAL) but then everyone says that!
The cars are made up of over 16k polys with much improved damage.
We should have a better environemnt mapping and some nice weather effects like the wet tarmac reflection in one of the screens.
The lighting is improved and we\'re still doing depth of field, anti-aliasing etc.
Thats about all I can think of.
Overall I\'m confident it already looks and plays better than WRC and we\'ve stil lgot a bit of time to go.
-----------
Few more points...
Stages will be more varied in terms of width, we were forced into wider stages in WRC because the driving model wasn\'t up to it.
We intend to have broken down cars, I\'m keeping my fingers crossed tightly as I type
We intended to have animals etc and moving objects but this may not make it in until next year now Including Kangaroos hopefully!
The problem with the damage in WRC was that the Reset to Track function made it hard to damage the car. We\'ve removed this function, meaning you can go anywhere. Now you can damage the car beyond repair and be forced to retire on the harder difficulty settings. Most body panels are now removable and the car can be damaged in more and new ways i.e. punctures.
Apparently the cars including interiors, consist of 21+k polys
Sony really wanted online play but they\'re just not ready for it. I think they just jumped the gun is all. If the game slips maybe it will happen but I\'m 99% psitive you\'ll have to wait for WRC 2003
-
Darn, no online play. Sucks.
The first screen looks like a model train set (\'cept with cars) or something.
-
I think this is the game I\'m looking forward too the most, I really enjoy(ed) wrc, and the list of new things is almost exactly what I wanted to see changed so it sounds really great!
nice pics btw
btw oh jeah does anybody know a release date (for europe)?
-
wow, thanks a lot Fast for clearing that up. You never fail to amaze me when it comes to digging up news. ;)
In that case, the shots are pretty impressive. I love the lightning in the screens above and hope that the actual game will look as good. Seing how good WRC already looks, I have my hopes very high for this title.
As for the European release date: I\'m pretty sure I read in one of the earlier interviews that it will ship at the end of this year. Perhaps same month like WRC did...?
-
that\'d be nice!
-
The original had horrible draw-in and gob-smackingly notable pop-up. And my god, what have they done with the trees! Nothing? Uglyuglyugly!
But hell, that\'s the game I play the most nowadays (or, well, Gran Turismo Concept is here now to take a huge chunk of my free time too)! And the sequel looks surprisingly good in comparison if these pics are anything to go by. I sure hope the same amount of work has gone to improving the physics and expecially the sense of weight with the vehicles.
