Title: Palladium sounds sweet!
Post by: fastson on July 17, 2002, 04:29:52 PM
If you dont know what Palladium is.. In short its MS new OS.

I like these quotes!

Quote
Before an application can run, it too must have a digital signature remotely verified by another server. If the program binary doesn\'t match with any of the authenticated binaries, your computer won\'t run it. This, again, is meant to stop your computer running "unauthorised" software - which might be warez, or it might just be a nifty freewrae program that the authors acn\'t afford to have certified. Microsoft will be able to control exactly what your computer can and can\'t run.

Quote
The "secure network". This is the real clincher for Palladium. At first, they\'re going to make it so that it is possible to turn Palladium off at the hardware level. But it is created in such a way so that, if you try to connect to a Palladium web server, you won\'t be allowed to. Palladium machines will only be able to talk to other Palladium machines, and non-Palladium machines won\'t be able to talk to any Palladium machines.
Hence, if Palladium reaches critical mass, there will be thousands of people the world over who won\'t be able to access the internet or even work on a network with Palladium machines, so by extension they will be forced to "upgrade" to Palladium machines.

Quote
Palladium will enable all your documents to be controlled remotely. No, this is not a joke. If Microsoft find you are using an outdated version of Office, all they need to do is send a message to your computer and it will no longer let you read any of your documents that were created with that application.
Even more sinister is that if Microsoft take offence at any of the documents on your machine (this could be porn, it could be a simple document containing DeCSS information or anti-Palladium information) then they can delete or alter it not just from your PC but from every other Palladium PC on the network.
This has a remarkable similarity to the "Ministry of Truth" in George Orwell\'s "1984" where the government continually faked information, both new and old, the entire country over to make themsleves appear "correct" all the time.

If Palladium ever becomes widespread enough, the internet as we know it today will be dead. Instead of being controlled by us, it will be controlled by Microsoft, and you will have no choice to do exectly what they say.

Lots to read.. More info at these sites:

can anyone say "thought police"?  I will deffinetly never own a system running this shit.  I might not even touch a system with this on it.  The world would be run by Microsoft if this became popular.  It\'s pretty damn scary.

And I can imagine to get one\'s webserver "palladium certified" there is a quite large fee.

How do they plan to migrate all those people who run Apache?

when the world goes completly digital, MS can alter anything and everything.  They don\'t like bad publicity, they\'ll change it.  they don\'t like comparisons to "1984" they\'ll change what the book is about.  they don\'t like what we say about them in forums, they\'ll change it.

they\'ll control all the info, thus they\'ll control the world.

This is such BS.  Screw MS.

/me goes to http://www.apple.com and orders a custom Dual G4 Mac

The worst thing is that the average consumer won\'t even know about this stuff.  When MS releases their next OS with this shit in it, your average Joe will just cough it up like it\'s another "great" Microsoft OS.

This is pure evil.  :rpissed: :rpissed:

Hopefully somehow the average Joe learns about this and it\'ll be the end of Microsoft OS\'s.  People wouldn\'t buy any new ones because they\'ll fear it would have this "wonderful" technology in it.

I\'ll have to say nay on this one too. MS is already controlling more than enough, and I don\'t trust them a whole lot. There\'s no chance in hell they\'re gonna control more than now. :rpissed:

it seems microsoft is pushing its luck with this palladium shit, and as for the security crap lets see:
1. unhackable OS (win xp)~ hacked, cracked and bagged
2. unhackable console (aka tEh Ps2 KiLlAh:laughing: )~ again hacked, cracked and bagged (heck their even trying to run linux on it now)
3. super safe completely secure OS~ soon to be hacked , cracked and bagged.
alot of people hate MS as it is, this will only make more people hate them.

And to make matters worse, thew new MS sound that plays when you log in has subluminal messages that\'ll turn anyone who hears it into a zombie. Microsoft can control these zombies by manipulating the electric power distribution system to emit subtle electro magnetic radiation.

On the contrary Sammy. As my commanding officer so grimly put it, I am the last hope for humanity. I am a solider from the future, sent here (the past - from my perspective) to prevent Microsoft from seizing power.

Of course this is a great thing, people these days are out of control.  M$ is taking the steps it needs to keep people in line.  This OS will be worth every penny I tell ya!

Why does MS keep trying to strengthen their digital grip over the world.  It\'s just like the Patriots in MGS; Bill won\'t stop till he has complete control:mad:

Oh God, I can\'t belive you people are so silly that you\'re actually listening to the paranoid mind job of a looser. The US will never allow Microsoft to take over its role! :D

Ehehehe, seriously tho... Your civil liberties are safe. MS won\'t be allowed to do the stuff that you\'re freaking out about.

And who\'s is to stop them? Will the government ask them politely if they\'re abusing their power? "Nooo, nevaaaar!" I think they\'ll say. :)

Anyhoo, I don\'t trust those ****wards.
