Title: Is this an e-mail virus?
Post by: Cerberus on July 18, 2002, 07:48:29 AM
I\'ll tell you as much as I can without opening the mail itself.

It\'s sent from ContentWatch@Ta... (I can\'t see to read the rest of the address)

The subject matter is "Advisory: Hidden file danger"

The file size is 2k.

It was sent to my hotmail account sometime today.

Obviousley, without actually opening the mail, the odds are against me. So I\'m just asking if anybody recognises the address or suject matter as a possible virus.
I\'m worried because I\'ve never seen this before, most others I have seen, and am happy to just get rid of them

I\'m awaiting any info.

It\'s most likely just spam... anyways, if it\'s on Hotmail, there\'s not much a potential virus could do. Just read it and you\'ll see it\'s spam. AFAIK only files that are sent with the email can be hurtful. So I woulnd\'t worry too much about it. :)

That\'s just in Outlook I think... even though I\'ve never heard of such a thing. I\'m pretty sure no virus can hit you by reading an email on Hotmail.com. Perhaps if you open an attached file and run it, but still.

I\'ve never heard of that either. Also when you open somehting in hotmail anyway, it is automatically scanned. The only thing I could imagine through hotmail would be something to make yer system crash and after a reboot, you would be ok..then again..I dont know much about pc\'s.

It\'s just spam. Delete it and you\'ll find it\'s nothing to worry about. Just delete anything from people you don\'t know.

You\'re not going to get a virus from reading a text file.

i get heaps of crap sent to my hotmail account.. bloodly spiders got it from my site.. So now i\'m getting 40 emails a day of crap. I\'ve got most of it goin to my junk folder. But anything else gets deleted. I don\'t know em. i delete em. So i recommend u delete emails in which you either didn\'t apply for, or don\'t know whom/where it came from.

My wife got on average 167 junk mails a day on her hotmail account.  She got a warning every other day about her box being full (Insert sex joke here)

I got her a real email account and now she gets none.
