Throwaway cellphones are set to make their debut on U.S. convenience store shelves, down the aisle from plastic razors, beef jerky and disposable cameras they seek to emulate as spur-of-the-moment consumer purchases.

Seems like a good idea though, but I say getting your own cell phone is cooler.

Alot of old people only have a cell phone for dialing 911 so it makes sense if you only plan on using it once.
-
lol, great theory man. I never thought of that.
-
I heard of a similar project (might be the same, I didn\'t clikck the link ;)). The same (?) people were working on a powerful laptop that would cost about the same as a book.
-
Hop-On mobile devices are plastic, two-way phones the size of a deck of playing cards. Users talk and listen to callers via a microphone/earpiece connected by a thin wire. Customers buy scratch cards in increments of additional talk time of 60, 90 and 120 minutes, according to company officials
so i guess its not totally disposable, but it is still a good idea none the less.
-
bah, they will suck as well plastic cameras do.
-
uhhh wtf. They want to sell pos cell phones that last for an hour or 90 minutes or whatever increment of time you buy for 29 dollars? (40 dollars for the higher end models). Why would anyone want to buy it then? You get a free phone and a 1000 or so anytime minutes for damn near the same price so whats the point? Pretty lame.

I actually saw a cell phone vending machine at a pit stop on my way from NYC to Washington DC. I thought it was a regular coke machine, but it turns out you can stick your credit card in there and punch a button to get a disposable cell phone! Weird...
-
Weird, yes, stupid no, i don\'t think it would fly here in the states, but maybe a few places like in big cities!!!
-
Why wouldn\'t it succeed in the US? I think if disposable cameras can work here so can disposable cell phones. But then again...the pay phones might be a little cheaper.
-
Welp, this ones done. *throws cell phone in garbage, opens up new one*
-
Well I think whoever produces these will make big bucks. I know countless people who have a cell phone that never use it. Thus, disposable cell phones our the answer.
