F-16s Pursue Unknown Craft Over Region
By Steve Vogel
Washington Post Staff Writer

For Renny Rogers, it was strange enough that military jets were flying low over his home in Waldorf in the middle of the night. It was what he thinks he saw when he headed outside to look early yesterday that floored him.
"It was this object, this light-blue object, traveling at a phenomenal rate of speed," Rogers said. "This Air Force jet was right behind it, chasing it, but the object was just leaving him in the dust. I told my neighbor, \'I think those jets are chasing a UFO.\' "
Military officials confirm that two F-16 jets from Andrews Air Force Base were scrambled early yesterday after radar detected an unknown aircraft in area airspace. But they scoff at the idea that the jets were chasing a strange and speedy, blue unidentified flying object.
"We had a track of interest, so we sent up some aircraft," said Maj. Douglas Martin, a spokesman for the North American Aerospace Defense Command in Colorado, which has responsibility for defending U.S. airspace. "Everything was fine in the sky, so they returned home."
At the same time, military officials say they do not know just what the jets were chasing, because whatever it was disappeared. "There are any number of scenarios, but we don\'t know what it was," said Maj. Barry Venable, another spokesman for NORAD.
Radar detected a low, slow-flying aircraft about 1 a.m. yesterday, according to a military official. Controllers were unable to establish radio communication with the unidentified aircraft, and NORAD was notified. When the F-16s carrying air-to-air missiles were launched from Andrews, the unidentified aircraft\'s track faded from the radar, the military official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Pilots with the D.C. Air National Guard\'s 113th Air Wing, which flew the F-16s from Andrews, reported nothing out of the ordinary, NORAD officials said.
"It was a routine launch," said Lt. Col. Steve Chase, a senior officer with the wing, which keeps pilots and armed jets on 24-hour alert at Andrews to respond to incidents as part of an air defense system protecting Washington after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Rogers remains convinced that what he saw was not routine. "It looked like a shooting star with no trailing mist," he said. "I\'ve never seen anything like it."
kinda interesting that we didn\'t get fed a story from the govt. seems a bit suspicious that they didn\'t say it was a weather balloon or something.

Am I the only one who see\'s the contradiction in the story? They maintain that they was not chasing something that was blue and "speedy", they also maintain that everything was fine in the airspace. However, they also admit they have no clue what it was and it dissappeared, so the only way to save face is to say "there is a couple possiblities" and "routine airspace launch".
Now, don\'t get me wrong, I\'m not some UFO fantatic (tho\' I do believe in them). But I also believe that the goverment covers a lot of things up, and these "routine launches" and checks a lot of times are actual cover ups.
OH yeah, and we\'re all gonna die from anal probes!

wow that was Sammy\'s dream way of dieing.
Seriously though, the govt. spin doctors screwed up on this one, they say we were chasing something, but nothing was there. then they say that the thing that wasn\'t there was there, but we don\'t know what it was....and it disapeared.....actually it wasn\'t there...but it was.....
and we got Kenny Rodgers as a wittness too boot!

Exactly. They can\'t have it both ways. Either you wasn\'t chasing anything and you was just out surfin\' the clear blue sky. Or you was chasing something and you have no clue what it was, because it just "dissappeared".
Not to mention Kenny Rodger\'s never lies.

Oh its prolly just the little unmanned Saab aircraft that they test flew in DC ;)
First test model was yellow.. Now they choose blue.. fits the colours or our flag perfectly.

According to Clowd, this should all be all dismissed because sightings aren\'t evidence :)

....stop mentioning that dude.........................dude
now then, it was probably made by our own govt ne way and didnt tell the pres or ne of them guys....i bet there is a lot of crap that our govt has and wont tell us.....like a cheap engine that runs on something we have a lot of and costs cheap....and how many of us wanna bet they have a cure for various cancers and viruses....but to keep up the economy they dont tell us.....stupid a$$ govt

HUH~?!#@! keeping these new technologies away from the masses help a healthy economy? Thats ****ed.
-
I think he was trying to say that by keeping new and improved technology away from people, it makes people more dependant on the goverment, thus allowing them to collect money from us from various sources like taxes and gas prices .
Do I agree? Not totally. Though, I do think the goverment is more than willing to hide certain things , if the result of hiding it is the mass population being more and more dependant on them.

I knew I put too much lighter fluid in the barbeque kettle! It launched like a blue streak! There was even a mini-mushroom cloud behind my house!
Of course, I was completely torched....like a bad sunburn. Anyway, did they say where it landed? Weber Grills are expensive, you know.
